I think Portis will rush for over 1500 yards this year. Hell I think he might even set some career bests for rushing this season. He is going to have a better passing game, there is no way it could be as bad as it was last year. That will immetiatley open up some more run for him to room. The offensive line is going to be improved from last year, so that should help him alot as well. I think the fact that we are going to run (allegedly) more stretch plays, will really benifit him too. I think if he ran for 1300+ last season, he will easily surpass 1500 barring injury.

Say what you will about Riggo, but he loved the game and wanted to win, and hey it took him all the way to the Hall Of Fame ;)

Yes, we were just AWFUL in the RedZone last year, hopefully we will improve in that area next year. Cooley was one of our few bright spots near the goalline with his 6 TDs.

Yes, loved the game so much he only came back because he was broke and bored, right? Name one player who doesn't want to win. Who sits back and says "Man, I hope we lose on Sunday!"

Riggo wasn't a bright guy (still isn't suprisingly enough) he's like Trotter. You tell him to hit the QB, or if he gives it to a guy with another number, hit him instead.

If the passing game improves a bit, so will Portis. It all hinges on a new offensive philosophy and Ramsey making plays.

it all depends on how much more often they utilize zone blocking and even run him on some draws and delays.

You are correct on Portis' continued success hinging on how well our passing will be this year, but don't expect a whole new offensive philosophy, but an expansion on what we were doing toward the end of this past season. We should definitely open the offense up a little more, but I expect the "O" will be heavily dependent on our running game once more.

If our passing game and our receivers excell this year - then I expect it to look very similar to what we were doing toward the late 80's and early 90's.

I have to say though with the debate on Riggo...you may hate the guy, but if it wasn't for John Riggins, we probably would not have been Super Bowl champions in 1982! He's a Hall of Fame guy.

I have to say that I hope Gibbs totally revamps his offense ... and doesn't just try to do what he did towards the end of the season. During the draft coverage on ESPN, Jansen said that Gibbs was running a 1992 offense (he didn't mean it in a disparaging way) and he was right. I'm glad that Gibbs says the offense will look very different next season - i.e. Gibbs' is going to emphasize downfield throwing, zone blocking, stretch plays, the shotgun, etc. That sounds like a completely different offense and I'm glad for it.

Me too. I'm sure that Gibbs new that he couldn't completely redo the offense during the season and we saw that the few changes he made LATER in the season seemed to work just fine.

Anyone else finding it odd that Gibbs is openly talking about these changes-shotgun, zone blocking? The Gibbs I remember would keep things close to the vest and then unleash it when the time is right.

I guess he realized it didn't work last year. And just like his first tenure, it's all about execution. If it's executed correctly, the defense shouldn't be able to stop it.

I don't think we'll see an entirely different offense this year. It wil have some different wrinkles, but it doesn't need a complete overhaul.

I think we'll see a running game that caters more to Portis and a passing game that will look to stretch the field more, but the basics of a Joe Gibbs offense will still be there. Pound the rock, protect the QB, and take shots down the field.

Execution is great, but you need to have superior atheletes at the positions to do that, because sometimes the opposing defense executes too. So I feel schemes are far more important now. I may have used the wrong wording -- I don't think the whole offensive philosophy will change. We will be a ball control offense, Portis will touch the ball a lot. Which I'm all for. I think that we set up more plays where the receivers can get yards after the catch more than a deep bomb game, though we'll throw a few a game. I also think the play calling and schemes will have advanced thanks to a full off-season and knowing his players better (kinda, been some turnover on the offensive side)

A couple of reasons he is sharing this year may be:

1. He knows we are concerned that his style of offense is outdated, and that he may be unwilling to change enough to make him competitive.

2. When you keep something a secret, and everyone knows you have a secret, it adds more value to the secret. Thus inflating the value of a simple shotgun formation. And it might not work. And then your big bad secret looks like a bigger joke.

3. When the players last year were telling reporters that we hadnt even used any of our "new" plays yet. That they were going to work them in. I half expected Clinton Portis to grow wings and fly to the end zone. Less hype is good(in case it doesnt work), and keeping it a secret from other teams is a waste of time. It's how often you use the play variations. Like Im sure Lovie Smith would love to know how many times we plan to line up in the Shotgun. But he wont know until game day.

I think due to the fact that we have super fast revievers, your not gonna see 8 in the box all the time like last season. Then again, were gonna have to make defenses respect our running game. I'm saying Portis runs for 1600+
