Mind boggling. People are bummed about this? McCants, Gibbs. McCants, Gibbs. Sorry, I got to go with the old man on this one. I am getting old though, so I guess I see things in a different way.
Dmac was an untapped resource. we got a glimpse of what he could do with spurrier.
i wish him the best.

but the thing that bothers me is there is no loyalty within the organization. we keep getting rid of the true redskins and bringing losers looking to pick up a paycheck.

patten, thrash and moss are a given. jacobs, i've lost all hope. dyson??? jesus... darnarien isnt the greatest guy in the world, but he is better than dyson.
I think the Skins are as loyal as any other team in the NFL. I mean c'mon, DMac has been here for some time and really hasn't been a major contributor. It was time we parted ways. And as far as I'm concerned a true Redskin leaves it all on the field - both practice and on Sunday. We wish him well though.

I don't see it as a McCants v. Gibbs deal. I back Gibbs on most moves and I defer to him on this one, but I would still have liked to have seen McCants stay in burgundy and gold. He might not have practiced well, but when he was on the field he produced.

Yeah, I wouldn't call McCants a "core Redskin." It's not a big blow to the team, but his loss wouldn't feel as bad if he was talking trash about the Skins (instead of praising and rooting for them even after he got cut).
frankly that would really suck, just philosophically. i always hate that. plus who knows what language/schemes/tricks he could possibly give em.
What could he give away? He wasn't paying attention in practice.

Re: Darnerien Done

Bottom line, I think McCant's considered his so called music career more important than football, and that probably came out in his attitude and work ethic. That is probably what got him cut, I am not in love with Dyson by any means, I also feel McCant's is better, but dedication is a big part of winning football, and the last thing Gibbs needs is a lack of dedication, it's very easy for that type of approach to fester throughout the rest of the team, especially if the going get's tough, Gibbs want's players who will fight their way out, not say oh well and go off and cut a record some where.

ah man, i wish him goodluck somewhere else. i wish we would've cut dyson and kept him, but i have to trust gibbs on this one. i hope he gets a good start somewhere else.

Jeez.....some of you guys are acting like we cut a future Hall of famer.

Bottom line is McCants wasn't a good practice player, and didn't do much when he was on the field. Like Matty said....his lackadaisical approach grew old on the coaching staff and with some fans. I'm not surprised about this move at all, other than the fact that he went out on the first cuts.

Re: Darnerien Done

This can be sumed up real easy. If you don't practice you don'y play, if you don't play you can't make play, if you don't make plays you don't make the team. He knew how Gibbs felt from a meeting they had last year and he stated so. He did nothing to impress Gibbs so now hes off the team and he got what was coming. All great player have a great work ethic so how could we expect him to get any better.

mccants will end up an eagle this week, i'm sure... besides knowing a little of the skins gameplan, he could easily be their #2 WR.

I'm not surprised McCants got cut. I would be surprised to see Dyson can make it, because he hasn't really impressed me much during the preseason so far.

Re: Darnerien Done

I liked McCants too and he was great a couple years ago, but let's not cry too many tears for him.

The guy signed LAST YEAR and got a $2 MILLION SIGNING BONUS! Not bad for sitting on the bench all year. Plus we chose to cut him now when there was zero financial incentive to do so (we hardly save anything on our 2005 cap). That tells me that Gibbs really didn't like this guy for whatever reason, and that's good enough for me.

So long and good luck Darnerian.

Re: Darnerien Done

I have always been a Darnerien fan, but mostly because he was a local product and actually went to the same high school as me, then he had the good year in 2003. So I'm kind of disappointed, but I understand it. He seemed to love the Skins, but he just wasn't a Gibbs type player....someone like Thrash who works his ass off is. McCants just didn't seem to have the focus. I do think he can have a successful career in the NFL though....not a star, but successful...

Good luck Dmac!
And please go anywhere but an NFC East team so I can still root you on!

Yeah, I just don't want to see him go to Philly. Not that I'm worried about him beating us out, I just don't want him to possibly wind up on a team and maybe go to the Super Bowl. (Corey Dillon anyone?)
