Re: How bout it Lavar
I agree that Marcus Washington had a hell of a game, but if you want to get technical, he was in the right place at the right time for the pick at the end of the game. And his strip and recovery was nice, but he almost gave it right back to the Buc's, if not for the athleticism of Sean Taylor.
I agree. Worshipping LaVar is a bit overboard, but so is acting as though he's only a troublemaker, and not a team player(not that you do, but there are plenty that do).
How about all 3 LBs had a hell of game. 33 tackles between them, two forced fumbles and two ints. that is pretty damn good from three players. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
Non-existent? Didn't he have 10 tackles, a deflection and a forced fumble and fumble recovery. And like JoeRedskin says the offsides on LaVar is a big deal. For one thing I believe it helped keep a Bucs drive alive that led to 3 points. And secondly, he was pumped up isn't that great an excuse. Who's not pumped up? If LaVar wants to be considered one of the best, one of the first things he has to work on is being consistenly solid, if not great.
Boy, you haters are hard on ole LaVar. so next time when big Joe or Marcus or whoever jumps offsides, I want to see you out here bashing them too. I dont recall any other penalties on LaVar other than the 5 yarder. Hell, he was excited to get a chance to pass rush. When he did it on a regular basis he ended up w/ 11 sacks, he was trying to prove to GW that he should be out there on 3rd down and jumped. There are alot of players in the NFL that jump offsides trying to get a jump on the snap, Strahan does it. Rice does, so are they boneheads too? Or is it just because its LaVar. Funny how you people talk about one 5 yard play and not the 10 tackles, the INT to set up the TD, or the forced fumble. That is a little harsh. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
Marcus without a doubt, WITHOUT A DOUBT, outplayed Lavar today, he is by far our best LB, Lavar made 1 big play, and that was the INT, and the pepsi machine could have made that one, a deflected pass right into his sturnum real tough, he also looked like he was running in slow motion for the end zone.
Where's the big time pass rush? Where's the big play ability? I am glad he made that INT but lets be realistic, just about anyone on this site could have made that play, he was just in the right place at the right time, not a common occurance for Lavar. Lavar doesn't sack the QB, he doesn't even pressure him, he's supposed to be a difference maker, HE'S NOT! Marcus turned in the play of the game on the 4th and 1 in the red zone late in the game, he forced Simms to throw an incomplete pass, that was the play that turned the momentum for us. [the dropped pass in the end zone was the biggest turning point but we didn't create that, tampa shot themselves in the foot]
I would agree, out of the three LBs Marcus is playing the best. But you have to give credit to all 3 lbs today. They all played a really good game. LaVar and Marcus had identical games pretty much, so how one could out play the other , I dont know. But if that is what they do, or LaVar and Marcus do for the rest of the post season, I'll take it every week. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
There is a big difference between hatin and telling it like it is, perhaps Lavar is part of the reason we had a different coordinator every year? I f he gave his all for the team he would listen and do as he's told, the fact is Lavar alway's wanted to do what's best for Lavar, and that's to run around the field doing whatever he feels like, while constantly being caught out of position, every coach he has had has said the same thing about him, can they all be wrong? I guess, but I doubt it.
As far a s pro-bowls are concerned, you can have them, I want wins, and championships, that's how I measure the greatness of a player, not a trip to Honolulu for a popularity contest.
Now LaVar is the reason Dan Snyder fired every coach he brought in here. Are we seriously going down that road. Dude, get real. That is rediculous. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
I am really beginning to grow tired of how much we come on the website and try to compare one of our beloved -vs- one of our beloved (i.e. Brunell vs Ramsey saga)..both LA and MW were GREAT...the D was just GREAT. Any contribution that LA or MW gives us on any play I will take it and I refuse to spend time picking apart whom is better than the other! They are BOTH Redskins players, we are ALL Redskins fans (supposedly)....like Lavar said Loyalty is a two-way street....respect him and root for him just because he is a SKINS player trying to accomplish the ultimate...the SB. Amen - it's not a zero sum game. There is plenty of love to go around, especially for our LB corp after this game. |

That statement was made in conjuncture with another post that stated Lavar went through a different coordinator every year. 1 player will not make the difference for a coaches job unless he's the QB, but lets face it our defenses have been lowsey with Lavar until Williams arrived, and we had one of the best defensive seasons ever without Lavar in the lineup last season. Washington is the one who pressures the QB, he's the one who causes the fumbles, yes both he and Lavar were benfactors of tipped ball's for INT's, but the point is Lavar was easily replaced with Lamar last season, and was basically a third string LB behind Holdman and Clemons, I don't see Lavar getting after the QB like Clemons was before he was hurt. Do you believe any other LB on our team could provide the same production and play making ability as Washington if he went down? No way! Without Lavar we haven't missed a beat, in fact you can make a case we have been better. He's a major waste of salary cap space! Perhaps he may be better suited to step in for Wynn at the D-end position, I wouldn't mind seeing us experiemnet with that a bit on saturday. |

Under Marty and his brother they were top 10 I believe, under Marvin 1 year they were top 5 I believe, they did drop the following year, but also I believe the year Ray Rhoades was here they pretty damn good that year. So check the stats before saying that. Yes, Washington is a beast I dont believe I ever questioned that. As far as that goes he has had a better season. And our D did play VERY good last year without LaVar, dont think I ever questioned that either. True facts about why he isn't getting after the QB is he is not rushing the passer. He may blitz here and there, but for the most part he doesn't pass rush. A couple of the times I have seen him do it, he has been effective from the stand point of making the QB move outside the pocket and force bad throws, which all of the LBs have done, even Clemons when he was healthy. Clemons has been the 3rd down pass rusher because he was or is quicker than LaVar off the snap, no arguement there. I dont understand why people are comparing the two. They are both awesome LBs, Washington has been an awesome addition to this team. If LaVar is 100% healthy and in playing shape and Washington his usual self, we could have two of the most dominant LBs in the NFL. LaVar is alot heavier than usual, but he was all last year, during preseason, and for the most part didn't play until week 6 or so. Give the guy sometime to get healthy, FULLY HEALTHY and back down to his playing weight, and at full speed before you haters start throwing him aside. Remember it took Trotter almost a year and half to get back to full speed and playing at his normal level. And the defensive end thing has been done, he registered 11 sacks the year Marvin used him as a 3rd down pass rusher. That seems to be pretty sucessful, but I just dont know if he is that effective right now. He seems to be a step slower this year and doesnt' seem to have all his strength back in his leg. But I would imagine it would be better than nobody out there. |

I'll give you Marty, we were better than average. but as for Marvin, regardless of stats we were incapable of stopping teams when we had to, and that is the true mark of a good or great defense. As for his production under Marvin? That was as a DE, not a LB, why do you think Marvin moved him to DE? Because he knew he was a liability as a LB. I think we should try and find a way to trade him back to Marty in the offseason, he may be the one guy willing to part with a draft pick for Lavar. |

just so everyone knows Lavar will be on 980 today just like he is every week but this time its playoff style!! I'll post what he says.

Re: How bout it Lavar
For some reason I have feeling that Lavar will be in a Redskin uniform next season.
Especially if he keeps playing the way he did Saturday. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
he is on. I will edit this post throughout.
"yes, we had an addittion on saturday at 1:25" "HAD A GIRL" Arlie or harley or soemething like that arrington. "I didn't believe that she was telling the truth[about her water breaking]" JT is telling him that he is no running back and he was yelling HOLD ON TO THE BALL and not run run run during the INT. "108 yards in high school to the house" "need an offsesaon to exersize not rehab" "i gave us a little momentum- you know ha haaa. I wasn't being selfish i wanted portis to get that TD" Where did you relize you just won a playoff game."On the airplane when i started looking around and Joe Theismann gave me a big hug on the airplane" on the D-line "the thing that has been the heart and sole of this unit has been our D-line. They have been taking criticism that they didn't deserve. THey come to the game and give an all out effort every week. nothing greater than to see them get their just due. It is showing up in the stats. Its a beautiful thing" The saliva insident. "The thing is when you are hollering and screaming a lot of things come out your mouth. If someone spit on me i would first wipe the spit off and then show him why he should have never done it. I know pittman and i don't think pittman would be so calm if sean spit on him. It happened but we are moving on" "by losing him we had to do most-because you are losing a lot of range- we needed someone to cover almost half way from the field to the sideline. We had to nickel packages to make up for that loss" on the 6 game streak " i think the thing we set our mind on as a team was just to play. Not worring about a game in a row, two games in a row. YOu know we didn't want to waste a great opportunity. I said from day one this is a special group of guys and you don't know who will be here year in and year out and we need to take advantage of our opportunities." "we're gonna be a tough team to deal with" On wynn and shawn alexander ' like i say- its always gonna be a dawning challange to stop a league MVP- that is like the colts and Patriots last year. we all know what happened. THe patroits played ball played football. Very very dangerous player in shawn. PRobably the best LT in the game outside chris samuels. This team right here the way we playing is gonna see who comes out" injuries on offense to defense impact "we are a family. A unit. This whole run we put together. THe O would have to compinsate for lack of success on defense sometimes and all you saw saturday is they are playing the number 1 defense in the league. That doesn't mean they are a weak defense. Clinton is banged up and he is a warrior and he is gonna fight. BRunell is banged up but he still shows he can run for a first down." "the numebrs weren't there but we did what we need to do. you can only face one number one defense." Amount of skins fans at tampa "Well i know this is something our fans have been waiting for for a long time. I can't be surprised because we have the greatest fans ever. Its an unbelievable thing to see the fans at redskins park and i haven't experienced this yet. It kind of seems that the kind of attitude by the fans, media, and people of the city that we are moving toward a magical season something special" "we talked to sean about that"- JT tells him that to tell sean that he loves him. Congrats on the baby. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
I just love this type on banter. Arrington vs Washington; Brunnel vs Ramsey... When all we have to talk about is who is the better player, that means the Skins are still winning football games. I love it!

Why did he move him to DE? because he was a beast at rushing the passer!!!. I dont even know why we are having this discussion in the first place. LaVar, Marshall, and Marcus all had one hell of a game. Why do people want to bash a guy after a good game. it makes no sence. |

No, I do know what I am talking about, Marvin fought with Lavar over the fact that Lavar didn't want to play DE, he had 11 sacks as a DE, I will say it again you keep quoting stats, did you watch our defense under Lewis? We were incapable of stopping teams late in the game, when a team needed to put a drive together they did so, stats can be very misleading. Lawerence Taylor was a beast of a pass rusher, let's not get carried away with this Arrington is some kind of pass rushing specialist, what does it matter if you rush from the LB position or DE on passing downs, it's more beneficial to have both, but Lavar was moved to DE because plain and simple Lewis knew he was a liability at LB. If you have a great LB you don't make him an undersized DE, and visa versa, so there are reasons more than your willing to acknowledge as to why Lewis moved Lavar was to DE. Lavar had 11 sacks in 1 year as a DE, and has a total of 22 for his carreer, you seem to like stats, do those stats scream pass rushing beast to you? |

More ammunition for #56Fanatic and Offiss (have at it fellas, keep it clean, nothing below the belt, let's have a good fight)
http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/WAS/6049821 December 23, 2002 “I am not a proven pass rusher, lining up as a defensive end, but I am getting blocking schemes designed my way” “People make a mistake if they compare me to Lawrence Taylor. We're different types of players. My game is based on speed, intensity and quickness. I always get a rap for being undisciplined, but I am a disciplined player. Taylor was more of a pass rush guy. I think I am more of a true linebacker.” “Playing defensive end out of a three-point stance is a great test.” http://www.winchesterstar.com/TheWinchesterStar/021125/Sports_skins.asp “Last year, Arrington thrived while playing a more traditional linebacker position, going to the Pro Bowl in just his second professional season...But under new defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis, Arrington’s role is more of a pass-rusher. In the first few weeks of this season, Arrington was unhappy and confused while playing that part. In recent weeks, he’s become more accepting. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/15/AR2005101500581.html October 16, 2005 “But the first sign of trouble came after Marvin Lewis took over the defense under Coach Steve Spurrier in 2002. Lewis and Arrington clashed over his role. Ultimately, Arrington thrived as a pass-rushing down lineman, posting a career-best 11 sacks.” http://www.sports-central.org/community/boards/showthread.php?t=8396 October 2003 “SC: If you were the defensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins, how would you use LaVar Arrington? LA: To be honest, if I was defensive coordinator for LaVar Arrington, I would probably stack the two linebackers in front of him and put him right behind them, let the D-line do what they do and if they get past the D-linemen, then he'll probably make the play. That's how I'd use him. And occasionally rush him here and there.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A27280-2004Sep16.html September 17, 2004 “Williams plans to sometimes use Arrington as a defensive end on third-down passing situations, a role that the linebacker groused about under defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis in 2002. Although Arrington finished with a career-high 11 sacks, tops among NFL linebackers, the part-time role strained his relationship with Lewis, who felt that the linebacker needed to improve his pass coverage. Last season under defensive coordinator George Edwards, Arrington was pleased that he rarely had to go into a three-point stance. But Arrington hasn't expressed any qualms about being used as a down lineman in nickel packages, when the Redskins send five defensive backs onto the field. Arrington now says he shouldn't have resisted as much under Lewis, and added that the experience gave him more confidence with his hands on the ground.” http://www.webskins.org/TWT/0902/092001.html September 20, 2002 That’s why Arrington is playing defensive end on third downs, and that’s why he’ll stay there even though he’s going through some growing pains. “Where else is he going to play?” Lewis asked yesterday at Redskin Park. “He will not embrace the intricacies of playing coverage on third down and get that done well enough. I’ve watched that. Everybody here has lived through that. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
So when somebody has a good game its within the scheme, a bad game and he didn't. so if everyone is in the right place at the right time, no body should even be able to gain a single yard. I am so sick of hearing people say about him out of position when everyone else seems to get free passes. Sean Taylor is out of position on a few plays everygame, Marshall too. Clark is cought off guard once or twice a game. This crap has got to stop. We won the game, he had a typical LaVar game. leave it at that.
You do understand the "free" in free safety, don't you? Sean Taylor is called upon to roam. Linebackers are not..at least not in Williams' scheme. Everyone being in position isn't going to result in the opposition not gaining yards, but it sure as hell minimizes the chances for big offensive plays, and maximizes the chances for big defensive plays. All said and done, I'm happy for your boy. I hope he has an even better game next week. |

His five yarder let to points - it extended a drive that led to a field goal. That's why people are nit picking on that one. However, that wasn't the dumbest play of the game - The dumbest play of the game was made by Sean Taylor - getting ejected. |
Re: How bout it Lavar
I think LA believes in his mind he is auditioning for another team. He has been hurt and not played much so his name has been out of the limelight and some may question his skills so he needs to show the league he still has what it takes to play.

Re: How bout it Lavar
it,s really hard to argue when lavar has 10 tackles an interception for the day.
and sets the tone for the day for the defense like he did on saturday.yeah he jumped offsides but all in all he did great and i,m one that hopes he gets evrything smoothed out cause he will be a bigtime factor in gregg williams defense. lavar show me saturday that he wants to play. |
