Ryan Clark will be resigned before 12:01 friday. I think we'll see the skins signing archuleta, and soon after Sam Adams. We'll make the trade Ramsey for Abraham later in the week. Tod collins will be signed soon after. As for reciever I can't decide between Bruce, Bryant, Robinson or David Givens. Trevor Pryce is an interesting pick up but I think he'll go back to denver he did the same thing last year
ramsey isn't being traded for abraham, he's not enough (and JA and bryant both probably fail the character test). Pryce will be too expensive and we have no reason to waste money on archuleta...

I don't think we'll try for either CB listed either due to their price and the fact that we already have a #1.
Dude, again stop w/ the Isaac Bruce stuff. He is way past his prime, not worth the vet minimum. we dont need another small receiver especially one his age.
wow... maybe you should check his stats again. he's the cheapest available 1000 yard/year WR out there. i don't even think walker is on the table and he'd be MEGA expensive (and coming off an injury) to boot.
QB Tommy Maddox

WR Brandon Lloyd

CB Charles Woodson or R.W. McQuarters (special teams)

DE Jon Abraham

OL Jeff Backus

K Vinatieri

Any of these players especiall at WR or CB would please me. Feel free to disagree or add to this
i thought backus was franchised. woodson probably wants #1 type money too :(

Randle-El really is a #1 guy. He's that good. He would have a breakout year like Santana did for us if he was a # 1 somewhere. I'd be surprised to seem him leave the Steelers though.
he doesn't have the ball reaction and i don't think he's quite as fast. He had better numbers as a #3 than a #2 as well, so i'd be wary of betting the farm on him.
That is just rediculous. Pay a guy a few million dollars for a year, he retires, then we are stuck w/ his dead money the next year or two. We do not need another 30 something year old receiver. we have two already
which two? the starters are what matters and moss is ~26.

Hey let's not forget Issac Bruce.
Seriuosly though, the guy keeps himself in Darrel Green shape and lives a clean life style. We saw how long D. Green was able to play. If we can get him for a good price, he will want to come here and play for Gibbs and Saunders.

onlydarksets 03-09-2006 01:12 PM

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

Randle El is not the type of WR we need. I'm not sure about Givens - I don't know that I want the entire Patriots WR corp (personal reasons - I don't like the Pats). Bruce could take some pressure off of Moss, but he doesn't seem like a long term solution.

I think we're going to be OK at LB - not spectacular, but Marshall and Washington can hold it down, with role players filling in the last slot. DE would be great, but can we really get any of these guys? (I'm not familiar with Howard)

Law is too injury prone lately and probably will be looking for more $$ than we can afford for a backup. Archuleta would be a sweet addition, but I think our secondary will be most improved by increasing the pass rush.

So, I'm voting Bruce - he's a short term solution, granted.

That Guy 03-09-2006 01:25 PM

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

we have enough money for one big signing possibly... guys like bruce and dyson are on a second monetary tier compared to mathis or kampman. howard would be the cheap stopgap solution.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

I'm pimping for Nate Burleson again. He's young and he's proven that he can catch balls as a #2 receiver. Danny just needs to throw a reasonable amount of cash at him to see if the Vikings blink. I think they're more intent on keeping Koren Robinson, an unrestricted free agent.

"Jeff Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings placed the lowest tender offer on restricted free agent WR Nate Burleson. He was given a tender offer that is worth $712,000 and would result in the team getting a draft pick equal to the round in which Burleson was selected (third) if he goes elsewhere. Burleson's agent, Jack Scharf, did not seem discouraged by the Vikings' offer. "Negotiations will be ongoing to see if we can get a long-term deal for Nate," Scharf said. "More will come to light pending a ratification of the collective bargaining agreement." He is ranked fourth among the available free-agent receivers by Scout.com. Cleveland, San Diego and San Francisco are three teams with salary cap space that might be interested in Burleson.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

Filling the hole at SS with a muti-dimensional player that has size/speed and is partucularly strong against the run will solidify our Defense more than any other position.
Our DE's are servicable and are strong against the run. We can get a cheap one dimensional pass rush DE to sub in on obvious pass situations, we do not need a star DE.
I still have bad memories of our SS Clark getting run over and embarrased badly by Bucs FB Alstot in the playoffs. There were 3 or 4 other instances in the regular season that Lott looked bad against the run. The #1 reponsibility the SS position has to be a strong agressive tackler, Lott at 5' 10" and 195 pounds is good in coverage but will not cut it as a run stopper. I also worry Archuleta, while he is a good tackler and agressive against the run, may also be too small. If we had another 6' 2" 225 pound hitter to compliment Taylor, teams would think twice about running the ball or throwing down the middle. Our D would be strong.
Look at how much Sean Taylor helped elevate our defense to top 3 status. Just like when others were screaming and upset when we did not get TE KWII this is another opportunity to solidify our Defense for years to come. Our corners are set, Safety would round it out.

I'd like a big safety like Tank Williams here. Marlon McCree is good too, but a bit undersized I think. A lot of people are talking about let's make sure we re-sign Ryan Clark, but I'm actually a bit more concerned we might lose Omar Stoutmire.

Javon Walker is not available.

WTF is going on up in this place??
I stand corrected on the age, Bruce is currently 33, but will be 34 in Nov, Moulds will be 33 in July. dont worry about how I type. Caps, not caps, who cares? I thought Moulds was 2-3 years younger than Bruce. When did 6' become big?

He a big physical guy. We need a big receiver. Moss, Patten are smaller guys. We need another Red Zone guy, a guy that can out jump the DBs, make the touch catches across the middle.(I know moss does that)

6' has been plenty tall enough for Bruce to put up some excellent numbers over the course of his career. It's just a lame argument, makes no sense.

nothing really makes sense to you unless we agree with you, so thats not surprising. all arguments are lame if they are not on your side of the fence. I dont like spending money on a 34 past their prime WR. You do, so what. We have two small WR 5-9ish. I think(THINK) we need a big WR.

Seems to me we debated all last offseason about needing a big WR last year and look what happened, Moss sets the team record for receiving.

What I want is a productive WR across from Moss, regardless of height, which is vastly overrated if you ask me.

Yeah, I am a Tank Williams fan as well. We could get a great deal for him if he is recovered.
He came back early (8 or 9 months) after ACL surgery last offseason and still started every game last year. Understandably he played below his high level, and he had a high salary so the team cut him this offseason.
That kind of injury take at least a year to come back from, I willing to bet he is ready to play at his fomer level. We could get him for cheap, try him out this summer and see what he has left. He is listed at 6' 3" and 225, but Iwould say he is closer to 235. He is a big hitter.

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

I know he's not technically a WR, but why can't we consider Chris Cooley our big WR?

I think more than a big WR what we need is someone who can take pressure and attention off of Moss. A 6'0 receiver can do that

Re: Predict our first major player acquisition

All this debate about finding a WR rests on the premise that our No. 2 WR wasn't getting open last year... thus accounting for the lack of production from Patten and Jacobs. The other possibility is, of course, that they were getting open but not getting the ball thrown to them.

The only way to know for sure would be to study film which I'm sure Al Saunders has done.

thats what we should be preaching. production. TEs are much bigger than big WRs, if you really want red zone threats, the TEs in this draft (near our pick) are probably better at getting yards and catches than the projected 2nd round WRs.

Right. And, bear in mind that tall WRs, especially those with a good vertical leap, make better red zone threats than little guys like Santana who is better at stretching the field for you.

"Even the cap-strapped Washington Redskins had revved the engines to owner Dan Snyder's private jet, and were set to ferry in St. Louis strong safety Adam Archuleta for a first-day visit."

While Sean Taylor and Ryan Clark are a more than adequate duo IMHO, I think I can understand why the team might be targeting Archuleta. First, Sean Taylor might wind up in prison. Second, Ryan Clark is a free agent. At first I thought signing Archuleta would be a luxury we can't afford. Now, I think it would make sense if his demands aren't outrageous.
