He signed with Carolina today |
Re: Ryan Clark
That was not a quote from gibbs it was a quote from the writer. The asterisks where added here not in the article.
This is the quote from Gibbs. "I told them that with the core group that we have here, our goal now would be to try to keep everybody together. That is my job and I started early this morning." I think maybe the writer came up with the core of 15 and not Gibbs. If you think about it why would a coach name out 15 players making the others feel like outsiders who could be gone at anytime. JERMUS22 don't give in until you read it for yourself.
It was Gibbs who came up with the "core of 15 players". It was his idea to use to deal with keeping team chemistry during free agency, not the reporters. Read the article again. The reporter did not pick the number 15 out of the sky. Anyway, it would be nice to keep more guys together, and that is clearly a goal. I wish Clark would have stayed, but again, he was not one of the 15 and thus was allowed to leave. Also, I don't think that the coaches are going to talk out about who the 15 are. I think people agreed here: http://www.thewarpath.net/showthread.php?t=10866&highlight=core |

We need Clark.

except we don't and he's not coming back. |
Re: Ryan Clark
I know it is aarly still but I sure fell better if I knew what we were going to do about the LB spot we need to fill! The back up OL and a 3rd DB is also out there! But that LB spot be it Marshall staying inside or out is a big question. I really don't think that can be fill by a draft pick. It would be asking a lot for a young guy to get GW D that fast and started. But you never know.

some LBs are more interchangeable than others. If D'Qwell iss available and we go draft, he'd probably only be taken if the staff thought he could play OLB for at least the first year or two (if not forever). |
Re: Ryan Clark
well since clarks gone, whos our backups?
|
Re: Ryan Clark
prioleau is the primary safety backup and spot corner too. omar will probably be back. springs can also play safety, though obviously that's not the best use with our current CB depth.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
AA is a much better safety than Clark. at matty pointed out, bigger , faster , and the guy likes busting people up. Clark was a liability in coverage. He could come up and lay some wood against the run, but was always a step or two late on coverage. I give a two thumbs up for the AA signing. Sorry Clark, maybe you can play along side another good safety in Troy P(not even going to try the last name)

Re: Ryan Clark
This came from disgruntled Rams fans on the local sports talk radio show in my area, but ... they said that Archuleta is such weight lifting fanatic that he pulled a disc in his back a season or two ago, and hasn't been the same since.
But then, isn't that a common tactic among fans in the NFL who lose some of their favorite players to another team? Take it for what it's worth. I still like the signing. It's better to have him than no Ryan Clark and no Sean Taylor in case he's watching Redskin games in an orange jumpsuit. |
Re: Ryan Clark
i was wondering if the weight lifting/overtraining he does would cause him more injuries than anything that happened on the field... his contract is set up as that of an injury prone player, so its worth noting if nothing else.

Re: Ryan Clark
A look back on the situation.

Re: Ryan Clark
Arch is a goat IMHO. While he's missed tackles, hasn't made any big plays, isn't a great safety, and Ryan Clark was good, it's not as though Ryan Clark was Ed Reed.

No he wasn't, but he played across from Ed Reed. They helped each other be as good as they were. Look at it, Polamalu and Hope were great...why? Cause one was selfish and the other wasn't. You can't have this many captains and expecto to win. You need role players too. Guys who are in the right place, not trying to make every play. |

He's the next Mark Brunell in terms of his goatiness. I guess every team needs a goat. |
Re: Ryan Clark
It couldn't possibly be that the goats have some blame. We payed big money for Phil Collins here, and hes done nothing.

I guess every team needs a goat.
well, every chain has a weak link. or in the case of our defense, more than one. |
Re: Ryan Clark
True, because the pass rush has been non-existant so the secondary is going to suffer because of it.

The guy isn't great and he deserves criticism, but people wouldn't be bashing him so much if the defense as a whole was playing better. The defensive woes can't be laid at the feet of just Arch and Carter; the problems seem to run a lot deeper. |
Re: Ryan Clark
There are a lot of guys that are underperforming this year. It doesn't all boil down to Brunell and Archuleta. You win as a team and lose as one. I really wish that replacing either or both of these guys was the easy answer.

Re: Ryan Clark
honstely, carter has been alright. i think we all expected like 10 sacks out of him so far. hes been around the QB a LOT and still has like 2.5.
|
Re: Ryan Clark
The players need to have a meeting and get this shit behind them. The season begins "anew" Sunday versus the Colts! They need to get their well paid asses in gear and play some REDSKIN FOOTBALL! Man up for CHRIST'S Sake! HAIL from MCUSA!

You do not judge a DE by sacks alone. Stopping the run is just as important as sacks, but stopping the run does not get all the headlines like sacks. Carter has been terrible against the run. |
Re: Ryan Clark
Honetsly Carter might just be a little too light in the ass to be effective against the run. What's he weigh anyway, about 265? HAIL from MCUSA!

'Round here we call him "Highway 99". Seriously, he's a chump. He's got two sacks, not 2.5, and one was a clever stunt designed by Gregg Williams where Vince Young held the ball too long. Other than those two times, he hasn't gotten near the quarterback. He's a guy that should be making the veteran minimum, playing only on passing downs and instead they paid him $9 million to come here. More brilliance. |

It's one or the other. Injuries to springs and prioleau and our DTs hurt, but not THIS much. |

Hmmmm! Terrible pass rusher, terrible against the run. Terrible, just terrible! Even at my age, I could make just as much and be just as bad! |
