Jacobs: Coach, I don't know if you noticed, but I think those guys on defense are trying to hurt me!

Gibbs: Well, that's their job, son.

Jacobs: Do people try to hurt the soda vendors?

Gibbs: No, I don't think so.

Jacobs: Ok, well I think I'd like to play that position.

Taylor Jacobs: Coach, I think I got a concussion.

Classic. I can imagine Taylor sitting in a dark room right now on the computer, thinking to himself, "I wonder how well all my fans think I'll do this year. I've got an idea, I'll check out some fan forums to get an idea!"

As he reads this thread a single tear rolls down his cheek.

Re: Patten to be released?
I think you're so off the mark that it's as if you root for a different team and you just follow the Redskins in passing.

Jacobs never could have done what Patten did in the Patriots' offense, Offiss. Jacobs doesn't have the same speed. Patten put those numbers up by running fly-routes and post patterns mainly. Jacobs can't burn anybody, and he can't separate from defenders. Just check the quote, "They have DBs running 4.3, what do you want me to do?"

Secondly, you do realize that Patten was hurt in week 2, right? He was banged up for the next 5 games or so, and then got put on IR. Trying to determine what kind of player he is based solely on last season is nothing short of retarded. He made a name for himself in New England by flat out BURNING people, and when you have a balky knee, it's pretty hard to burn those DBs with the 4.3 speed that Jacobs loves to complain about.

And lastly, I can't believe you actually think the Skins are going to keep him. He's as good as cut, man. Anyone who thinks Jacobs has a chance at sticking around needs to pay closer attention to this team. He was a player SPURRIER drafted. Gibbs has given him chance after chance and he has been disappointing all the way.

In terms of special teams, last year we had two WRs taking part in special teams: Thrash and Jacobs. This year we'll also have two: Thrash and Randle-El (returning). There's nothing saying that we'll need Jacobs playing teams so desperately. Jimoh will be one gunner, and there are plenty of other options for the other gunner spot.
What do you think Jacobs was refering to with that comment? He was refering to the fact that CB's who run a 4.3 are laying back on the routes and wont allow a WR past them, there was no deception in the passing game CB's knew we were just going to run a straight route downfield, check the quotes by Portis he said the opposing defenses know whats coming, check out some quotes by opposing defenses they said we were very easy to figure out on offense that we were very simplistic, how many DB's did Patton run past last season? None, maybe that's why he was complaning so much.

That's pretty funny, all that's to the Patriots offense is Patton outrunning DB's, as if the structure of the patterns and the ability to isolate defenders had nothing to do with it along with who just may go down as the greatest QB ever. If that's so answer me this, how come Patten hasen't done that everywhere he's been? In fact the only place he's done it is New England, he didn't do it for the Giants which is one reason he was cut, he sure didn't do it for us.

I really wasen't a big fan of the Jacobs pick when we made it, but the guy has had some bad luck as far as injuries.

There is a reason Saunders was brought in and it's because our offensive scheme the past 2 years has been horid, we now have the best guy in the biz, and he wasen't brought in because we had no talent on offense he was brought in because we couldn't utilize the overall talent that we have, take a long hard look at G Williams, and take a look at the transformation of our defense in 1 off season without [as many like to say] our best defensive player in Arrington, many would have laughed if you told them before Williams arrived that Pierce would winde up being our best LB, and we wouldn't mis a beat with Marshall filling in for Lavar, but that's exactly what happened. The same will happen with Williams, he's done wherever he's been, and if both Patton and Jacobs excel in under Saunders well what will be the decision? Maybe both stay, but I wouldn't shut the kid down just yet until you have a chance to see him in a real NFL offense, make that an elite NFL offense!

I also get the feeling that Gibbs likes Jacobs, we know he likes Patton but I do believe he thinks Jacobs has talent, and considering Gibbs focus on special teams Jacobs is not dead in the water as of yet, Maybe he will be tossed aside, rest assured I don't think he's the second coming of Keenan Mcardel, but he may have a lot to offer that he wasen't able to showcase because of injuries and the type of previos offenses we have had.
Jimoh will be one gunner, and there are plenty of other options for the other gunner spot.
Well like who? Maybe Jacobs? He had a nice block on a punt during the season as well, the guy brings some nice intangables to the table as far as specials are concerned. It's funny you bring up Jimoh SCHNEED, is he a player you want to see in pass coverage? If not why not get rid of him and bring in one of your other options at gunner, let me know who they are?

Re: Patten to be released?

Don't crucify me on this, but I think that Jacobs is going to be a late bloomer in the NFL. I have a feeling he could do well in an Al Saunders offense. If he goes to another team, he may end up becoming a solid WR.

The problem is that we probably have to much talent now to risk keeping Jacobs for his potential when the other guys have actually proven they can get open and make plays. I expect to see him gone unless he goes into training camp flat laying guys out on special teams.

I don't think so. He should be performing in the ballet, not playing football. He's a reflection of Steve Spurrier, a total pussy.

Yeah I'll agree with that statement. Of course, Portis isn't going to mention on the air that he's totally gutless, afraid of taking a hit, and completely lacks the drive to compete. Which is exactly why he never sees the field.

For what it's worth, we are fans, we don't get to see or hear much. Portis would be privy to much never seen on the outdside. I am not advocating TJ, but.........................it is indeed strange he would go out of his way to make mention of such a thing.

Sounds like good trade inflation talk to me. Let's trade TJ! We'll get random players on our team to hype him up. WITNESS THE BRILLIANCE OF JOE GIBBS!!!.

{I don't advocate the use of all-caps on a discussion board, by the way. I was trying to make it appear to the reader as if a big, booming voice was making that declaration.}

He was just talking about the weapons the team has.

Team guy is fine, but to bring up a WR who's buried on the depth chart is a little odd if you ask me.

Who knows, maybe they're just good buddies or something.

True enough. If he brought him up without prompting, that might say something. Grrr, I almost want to give him another chance under Saunder's system, but then again I don't.

He definitely wasn't prompted to talk specifically about Jacobs, after all who cares about Taylor Jacobs anyway?

Maybe we were all just a year late on predicting big things for Jacobs. If he can step up and contribute I think we'd all gladly eat some crow.
