Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
IMHO, Griffin is absolutely dominant when healthy. Unfortunately, he's been injured a lot lately. If he's health again, I'm convinced he'll return to form.

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
Well, I'd want to see some clarification on why just because Griffin had one BAD season much like he had a GOOD season two years ago, that all of a sudden he's crap. Everyone is so, "What have you done for me lately?"
I guess that's why you're the impatient optimist. :biggthump
Unfortunately "what have you done for me lately" is the nature of pro sports today. Anyway, I'm not saying Griffin is done, although Salave'a might be. But the fact of the matter is Griff did have a bad year last year and he's 30 now, so it is an area where we can't afford to just stand pat. I do think Griff will have a better season this year, but I can't say that about Salave'a. And it's not really smart to rely on 2nd year players who were 5th and 7th round picks (Golston,Montgomery). |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
D line is next years project, trade up for Calvin Johnson since the DL prospects at #6 don't seem to be that good. Salvae, Griffin, Daniles, and Carter will have a better year, the secondary is better than last yr. and our new stud middle linebacker will hold things down for 07'. no we won't be in the top 10 defense, but Cambell and Johnson will be our future for the next 10 yrs...or stay at 6 and draft Landry either way the line aint gettin a overhaul this year
It always next years project to take the DL. You can always do it next year, every year. But until you ACTUALLY ADDRESS IT, you still have a problem.

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
Ya serious? Amobi or Branch don't seem that good?! Really now, has there been a "can't miss" DT prospect in recent years?
Okoye is the best prospect since Tommie Harris. That's a 3 year wait for someone this good.
Stu, who's going to be better if we wait until next year? Because if there is a prospect whos honest to god better than Okoye next year, why not take Okoye this year and that hypothetical player next year. Isn't that what Jacksonville did with Stroud and Henderson? I'd say they are sustaining their defense pretty well. |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
Why will Salave'a, Griffin, etc have a better year? B/c you say so? Other than Andre Carter, I would say our starting D-line is in serious decline and is very much in need of improving. Explain to me why I'm wrong.
Uh...not just because i say so. Its because both have recouped from injuries, and now we have Salvae subbing out with Golston who will have a better year now that he's progressing into his second. U act as if im saying that our line is great or something. I believe the acquistion of CJ would be worth running with the same line as last year. I do Believe we will be better against the run with minor improvements in the linebacking corps and secondary. With your response I'd love nothing better than to say your wrong, yet i know that our tackles are a year older and Daniels has been fairly unproductive. The idea of CJ and Jason Campbell makes me willing to run with them another year...therefore is suggest to trade up |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
Anybody's guess..... we'll know in two weeks and two days for sure.
I still hope we find a partner and trade down. More Picks |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
we dont need calvin johnson, that would cost us to much.we dont have a decent pass rusher on the right side to go with carter.we should get charles johnson.

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
I believe the acquistion of CJ would be worth running with the same line as last year.
This is where you and most Skins fans, along with me, differ. I just don't want to be subject to the same 4 guys again, only to find out midway through the season that we have no options for replacing them.
Golston will improve for sure, although he hasn't shown much to begin with. |

Do you know why, because that could be an important thing to know before we draft him?

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
At first we all wanted Allan Branch, then we wanted Gaines Adams, ESPN releases their aritcle on Okoye now we should draft him 6th? Has he actually replaced Gaines as the can't miss prospect? I don't know, seems as the national consensus is that Calvin Johnson is the truth. I don't want to defend not bolstering the line because we are sorely in need of help but no of us really no exactly how much it would cost to move up to 2 or 3. So wide reciever is not a pressing need, ok, but i don't want to walk away from the next Marvin Harrison with Randy Moss/Terrell Owens ability for a Tommie Harris. I should end by saying if the acquistion became to costly, ie. trading away a intergal part of the team then we should stand pat or trade back to bolster the D.

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
There's a split between DE-advocates and DT-advocates, but a lot of people have liked Okoye for a long time now.
And, while DTs are nowhere near as "sexy" as WRs, they're just as important. I'd prefer to upgrade our 31st ranked defense before adding to an offense that has Cooley, Moss, Portis, Betts, ARE, Lloyd, etc. If Campbell develops like people expect him to, we don't need another #1 WR. Finally, I don't like the idea of bumping Moss to #2. |

But regardless of where our offensive problems lie, the use of the 6th pick on the DL is just common sense. |

My point this entire time frame leading to draft day, has been hopefully we will Trade down and pick up, more picks. However, I've also said if we stay at #6 Gaines Adams has a heck of an upside and ALL the tools to get it done. IMO if we stay at #6 he's the guy. I think DE would be my #1 choice, followed closely by a DT which would be my second choice. |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
For better or for worse, the front office is reportedly uninterested in Adams.

Just curious - According to who? Around the time of the combine, I remember reading somewhere that Gibbs and Williams appeared to really like Okoye (and yes, I have been an Okoye backer from well before the ESPN article). |

He's really been keep under the radar of the media. That's not hard to do when theres a national buzz around a visit from JaMarcus Russell to a team with a franchise QB already. God, mediots are idiots. |

1) What becomes of Andre Carter? I've explained this point ad nauseum and so have many others. 2) Is pass rushing ability in DEs overvalued? We had a very strong line when Wynn and Daniels were the ends. Perhaps this is because while they werent dominant pass rushers, they were good pass rushers who were exceptional vs. the run compared to the expectation for the DE position. Maybe a guy like Carriker is the better of the two ends even despite not having incredibly gifted physical skill. 3) With as much of an unknown as Andre Carter is, doesn't it make more sense to fill the sure need now with Okoye, and reevaluate the DE situation when we know EXACTLY what we are looking for. This works hand in hand with point # 1 a bit. If you draft Adams, Carter's on the bench by 2008. What if we take Okoye and Carter gets 12 sacks this year? Wouldn't we look like geniuses for not taking a guy like Adams when Carter was more than adequate? There are guys like Adams in every year's draft. He's good, but we don't need to take him. Theres a draft next year. He's the 3rd best pick we could make at 6 after Carriker and Okoye, so I wouldn't be all that disappointed if we took him. He just doesn't make the most sense. |

The Lance Briggs trade is pretty well dead from the Redskins' standpoint. Talks of moving up and moving down have been difficult. The Redskins may have to pick, which could put them in a position to take safety LaRon Landry of LSU. Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
okoye at the 6 spot if we cant trade down but i wouldnt mind landry either because honestly one Dline rookie isnt the last piece to the puzzle and we should be building for a SB run in '08 to '10

Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
Okoye is the Redskins most certain pick because we heard the least about him from the Redskins FO.
That means they're trying to smokescreen their top draft pick of Okoye by not showing any interest. Good job guys in the FO. Goodell: "With the 6th overall pick the Redskins select...Amobi Okoye" Goodell: "Damn, looks like you were right Skinny Tee, keep up the good work." |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
i hate to think it but i believe if we cant trade down to get one of the d-lineman none of them are worth the #6 pick. we will draft landry we just based on the fact he is the best defensive player in the draft in my opinion. i would like a d-lineman but the more i think about it they will not make our team much better this year. i just hope peterson falls to our pick so we can trade down and get more picks
Sean wasn't especially good in coverage in 04 or 05, but he regressed majorly this year. There is NO excuse for him being out of position as much as he was this year and biting on any backfield action that moves. He's got the potential to be an above average safety in this league, but only if he corrects the undisciplined play that plagued him in 2006.
he will be a dominant safety |
Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?
well trade down.i think they are down playing this stuck at pick 6 crap, cause we already have a trade partner and is waiting for draft day to announce it.oh landry would be good but i dont see it happenin.the dl this year is good and deep.in the draft i mean.
