Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
Absolutley anything by Nickelback or U2, both bono and chad kroger should join together in suicide. Honestly how can any assclown listen to nickelback and be like "wow, this is really good stuff" if you could capture all the sounds of someone taking a dump, stretch it out to 12 songs and put it on an album id rather hear that than freaking nickelback.
But most of all i hate Dave Matthews Band: 1. He is not original 2. his live performances = put me to bed 3. about 95-100% of his songs sound the same 4. i know you're an acoustic band and all but hey, heres a thought, pick up a damn electric guitar try something different, even acoustic bands do ti every now and again. 5. i hate people that are obsessed with DMB and refuse to realize how much he sucks
I'm not a huge Dave fan, but I do like his music in general. I am, however, going to defend him here because some of the points you've made don't make any sense. 1.) He is not original. What are you talking about? Give me some bands that have the same sound as Dave Matthews that came out before him. I really need some proof for this point. 2.) His live performances = put me to bed. That's just your opinion, most people rave about how great his live shows are, so whatever. 3.) 95-100% of his songs sound the same. I disagree with you on this one, it's just a matter of opinion. I think he's very diverse. You could say some of his albums have the same sound, but his songs dont all sound the same. 4.) He did pick up an electric guitar and try something different on his album "Everyday." When that album first came out they played the songs "The Space Between" and "I Did It" all the time on the radio. Those are both electric guitar songs. I'm pretty sure the whole album is electric guitar. 5) You think he sucks, that's just your opinion. |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
1. His music is that of a jam band, IE go back into your repertoire a bit and you will find bands like: phish, the grateful dead, the allman brothers, the string cheese incident any of those ring a bell?
2. I know most people rave about how great his shows are, ive seen him 3 times now and have been utterly dissappointed, saw him twice in charlottesville and once in MSG where my friend, who is beyond diehard dave fan and seen him about 25 times, said it was the best dave show hed ever seen... I was not impressed at all, and this was at a time where i was still up for giving him a chance. 3. its opinion but thats what liking music is about opinion. 4. i stand corrected, however the whole album is not electric 5. i am talking about the die hard dave fan, like my friend, who listens to DMB about 24/7, im also talking specifically about dave himself and how he is, IMO the most untalented member of the band, as at shows, 50 percent of the time hes just standing around watching his band play Yes my points are opinion but thats all music is about, taste and opinion, hence why his music makes me want to punch someone in the face. |

My friend, the above statement is not true. I love Phish and the Allman brothers and have seen them multiple times. I also listen to a little GD and SCI. They are NOT the same! How can you say that Dave sounds like the Allman Brothers?! Have you ever even heard the Allman Brothers? Come on man. Dave and Phish sound NOTHING alike!!!!!! I really don't know what you're talking about on this one. Wow, I really am at a loss for words here. You said before that Dave was an acoustic guy. Allman brothers are an electric blues rock band for the most part, and Phish is electric too. What defines the Allman Brothers is their insane guitar playing, how is that Dave Matthews?! Wow, I just dont know what to say. HAve you heard any of these bands?!?!? |

Dave is the most untalented? He is the one who sings and writes all the songs. His guitar style is very unique and very complex for a mainly rhythm guitarist |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
Yes, i do like jam bands, yes i am a fan of all the afformentioned bands, his style is that of a jam band, one which I do not like. Do Jam bands have the same sound? no, that is a major part in the definition of a JAM BAND, they jam hence noone will sound 100 percent alike, jam bands are also defined at what they are good at doing, IE Trey Anastasio is one of the best guitarists of IMO all time, what defines the allman brothers are the guitar solo's/jams that can go on in upwards of 20-30 minutes.
When i said he was unoriginal I was speaking of the fact that a majority of fans tend to think hes the first person to ever do this kind of thing, which he isnt, not even close. Yeah he writes the songs, you know who else wrote a whole lot of songs and wasnt really that talented? Bob Dylan... Now wait a second and let me finish, Bob Dylan is an extremely talented and one of the Greatest Songwriters of all time, but does that mean he is the greatest musicians? I think thats a matter of opinion, he may be able to write the best song in the world but he sure cant play the guitar like hendrix. So yes, I think he is the least talented as Boyd Tinsley is freaking sick nasty on the violin and Carter Beafurd is IMO one of the best drummers I've ever heard. |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
Not to get in the middle of this debate, but that song Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne makes me want to punch her in the mouth lol.

That means every jam band who came after the first jam band is unoriginal. |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
I think you misinterperted what I said, I said people tend to have the belief that he is the first person to ever do this style of music when he is in fact not, yes he has a different sound than other jam bands making it an original sound. I wasnt trying to say they were unoriginal just because they were a jam band cuz that wouldnt make any sense.
From now on i will put the explanation behind my opinions in the first place |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
trying to convince people a band they like sucks makes me wanna punch someone in the face. You go round and round but you can never prove his opinion is right and yours is wrong, and Mooby I agree the chorus in that song ......wanna punch myself in the face

Then you'll really flip when you hear her sing the international versions hahaha... Avril in Chinese is pretty funny. I'd still marry her (if she wasn't already). |

People who need people are the luckiest people in the world-- maybe the sappiest line in the history of song writing.

Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
ever stop and wonder will anyone remember these songs in 10 years? Its funny i watched VH1 top 100 songs of the eighties or something and knew almost all the words to almost every song, and my parents have there songs that everyone from their generation knows, I can't see any of today music hanging around like that.

Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
I don't get the whole "Dave" thing either. I have his albums (burned for me by someone trying to convert me).
I have listened to them, which was like bitten by a thousand red ants. I have come to the conclusion that: Dave Matthews SUCKS. |

I have no problem with people who don't like a band but to write them off for completely ignorant reasons is, well... ignorant. |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
I think it's the affectation in D.M.'s voice that wears on people. It sounds like a joke voice. Its as though he's afraid the lyrics aren't any good so he uses that voice to protect himself. "I was just screwing around." Its annoying. Just sing the words. That's what George Jones would do.
I also hate Jimmy Buffet. "I like mine with lettue and tomato". Get the fuck outta here with that shit man. LAME! |
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
What I like about DMB is the music...band members sure know how to play their instruments and the sound has a soothing affect.

Meat Loaf anyone?
|
Re: Songs That Make You Want to Punch Someone Square in the Face
I actually like Jim Steinman's songs. I can't help but think that if he had tried he could have found someone better to sing them. Then again. Making love out of nothing at all? That's a terrible line. Okay, Jim Steinman and Meatloaf and Air Supply and Bonny Tyler suck.

Back in the early 90's Meat Loaf was god in Europe, well, him and Michael Jackson. You couldn't avoid hearing those two guys without self induced deafness. |

Yeah. You like to think of Eurpeans as being more tasteful and then you get Hasellhoffmania in Germany or Jerry Lewis and the French, and its WTF? |

Every time there is a local DMB show, the next day's newspaper has an article about the huge drug raids police did at his show.
You can't blame Dave for that, but it does say something about his fans I'd say. |
