Yeah I understand that. I just see the rationale for both sides, I dont think one side is the ultimate answer or anything.

On a side note the Lakers just gave away their lead to Suns. I thought they had control of the game, sucks for them.

I mean, teams have won games with a top 10 WR on their roster, but usually they have to make another really smart top 10 pick to get over the hump.

It's the fallacy of WR's and the way they are graded out of college. A team takes a WR at No. 6, another team takes a WR at 25? Who will be the better player? Historically its been a toss up.

If you are trying to address WR, the best thing you can do is not fall in love with any of the available prospects, trade down in the draft, and take the best remaining guy.

Falling in love with a top 5 receiver has traditionally always been a bad move in the long run...even if the pick does pan out.

So teams foolishly now think this guy, Johnson, is going to buck that trend based on the amount of hype.

And if he does redefine the position and the team that drafts him successfully builds an offense around him, instead of using him as part of the offense, I will eat some major crow.

I'd admit a bias here: I can not fathom how an offense would be built around a WR at the center of it. The way offense works today, even the best WRs are small parts of the offense. I suppose theres no reason to assume building an offense starting from the outside in is possible, but its just unpredicented so far.

I don't know how it could work. If such a player did exist who was so phyisically dominant that he could get the ball on every play and not lose effectiveness, it would completely flip the game on it's side. But I don't know if this type of player does or will ever exist. It's currently unfathomable the way the game is played.

The Cardinals have invested so much into their offense, but because they tried to build outside in, they still ranked 31st in DVOA this year. They could have invested a lot less into their offense, more into their defense, and produced more offensive production if they built from the inside out, IMO.

Do not draft a WR. Lloyd and ARE just got here. Isn't this going tho be there second year. Let Jason and them get timing down and they will do alot better.

I think if they want to get a receiver to complement Santana and it's not CJ it should be Ginn...now that guy is explosive....

I totally agree with you...but I was just throwing it out there ..I think if they would go after the slow USC receiver it would be better to take Ginn..thanks for the welcome ..I've been reading you guys for months..I'm honored to be able to join a bunch of Skins fans...

WR's are a dime a dozen come draft time, and usually the 1st rounder WR's tend to be busts as of late. We need to finally focus on the defensive line for God's sake!!!!! The only other position I can see us drafting at#6 that would make sense is if we actually made a play for Landry or(this sounds nuts I am sure) maybe even Quinn. After JC we have Mr. Noodle Arm and the other old man reject. Not much there if JC goes down or doesn't work out for some reason. Landry back there with Sean would be a killer prospect also. Just have to wait for Saturday and see what fun the Danny has in store for us!!!!

The closest example I can think of is when the Rams drafted Torry Holt. It seemed like he was the piece of that offensive puzzle that really helped that team fire on all cylinders. But even then they took Orlando Pace first, I believe.

Ultimately though, I agree -- WRs aren't the make or break thing for offenses. You have to build a solid line first and foremost.

For anyone who wants to trade up to nab CJ at #2, do people realize that we'd have to give him a deal (assuming it is six years) worth more than $60M with guaranteed money at or exceeding $23M? That's the deal Reggie Bush got and we'd have to exceed it. I don't know of a player who is worth about 10% of a team's cap or a WR worth an average of $10M per year.
