doing a little more research on this guy, it seems EG may have another second round gem. i liken his game to a Josh Smith- same type of athleticism, boards like a madman and plays stiff D (he actually averaged 3.5 bpg at fresno st.).

I've heard some comparisons to Josh Howard (which would be unbelievable) I see that the Bobcats cut Brevin Knight, I'd probably make a run at him. In fact, I'd be tempted to play Arenas a 2-guard

What do you think of this itv? Trade with Portland for Jarrett Jack (local guy) and Magliore (defensive-minded 7 footer), maybe send Hayes, Daniels and Haywood there. Then you start Caron (3), Antwan (4), Magloire (5), Knight (1), and Arenas (2). You have Jack as a backup point guard or you slide Arenas to the 1 when you bring Young or Stevenson off the bench. Or you can move Butler to the 2 and go big in the frontcourt with Blatche at the 3, and Pech at the 4 (Poet at the 5)

I wouldn't change a thing about how they use Gil. He leads this team and I like my leader to bring the ball up the court and get things rolling if he is capable. I know he isn't a traiditonal PG by any stretch but they seem to operate fine without that. I would wonder how bringing in a true PG would mess with the chemistry of their offense. It might degrade it for a season.

That said...if they do decide to shift Gil's role to the 2 then your plan makes a lot of sense. I am all for getting someone to patrol the middle and play defense. Solid interior defense plus the scoring ability of this team would make them serious contenders.

Good points. The biggest issue with my scenario would of course be perimeter defense. Knight and Arenas aren't going to scare anyone with their D.

I dont understand how a guy like Gil isn't a great defender. He isn't tiny, he's quick and athletic. That's all you need skills wise to be at least good. Is it an effort thing?

You know what, I think it is. I love Gil but playing defense is a lot about effort, desire and perhaps most importantly willingness to do the little things that aren't going to show up in box scores or tv highlights. Arenas is obviously serious and dedicated about his profession but sometimes you have to wonder if he's more serious about succeeding at things that get him more recognition and face time. Like scoring 30+ points a game.

All that said, I have a good feeling that he's ready to elevate his game defensively. He's seen Wade win a title and Bron make it to the finals. Now he knows it's his time and if the Wizards are going to get there they need for everyone to play better defense.

Defense is more about desire than effort. If you want to play D you will. Doesn't matter how much effort you put foward if you don't want to play D you wont play to your highest level of it.

Re: Trade... I love AD's tenacity, consistency and ability to lead the offense for the second team. But I'd definitely do that trade in a second. Daniels isnt' getting any younger and I'd see the Magloire/Wood swap as evening out the age scale for both teams. Jack can play, especially leading a break. Magloire's getting old, but he'd be more than serviceable to hold down the fort for a year or so, giving our young bigs a little more insurance in in the post.

When Larry was here, they'd both be adept at bringing the ball up the court... even at Arizona, he switched between guard positions. AI's play has improved moving over to the 2 and Gil wouldn't be any different. A scorer like him would love the freedom to roam a bit more- he'll be able to come off more screens and his range will definitely be showcased a bit more. I've seen more than a few offensive sets that end quickly with Gil jacking an immediate three after bringing the ball up the court. You get a Jack to run point and the ball will move and we'll see the Princeton cuts in full. With that big lineup you suggest, I'd switch out Pech with D. Song (although I'd rather switch out Poet, but we'd need him at C) to form a pretty pass-heavy unit. I really think Blatche makes a statement this season.

Now that I think about it more, that's a brilliant trade suggestion. I see a bigger picture with what you're trying to do. SS, get EG the memo!

If the Wizards want to bring in a big guy that can play defense they should take the expiring contract of theo ratliff from the celtics, or focus on Ak-47 from the Jazz.

The Bulls drafted the ugliest player of the draft. Hopefully he can make it at the pro level. I wasn't crazy about him in college but it fills a need for them (PF/C).

Billy King fired. 3 first rounders, and no one has ever heard of any of the guys. i wanted them to trade for the kid from china, that went to Milwaukee. and i wouldn't have cared if it took all 3 picks. because his contract would have equaled the other 3

Interesting idea about Kirilenko. Have you heard any updates on how hard the Jazz are trying to move him? I know he wanted out during last season, and he played really poorly most of the year, so his stock value isn't too high.

I seem to remember he has a pretty huge contract though...

They are fielding offers exclusively but it looks like he will stay with Utah.

Some say we just got a younger version of Kirilenko in Dominic McGuire. In other news, some rumors that the Pistons are actually in trade talks with the Sonics and are offering up Rip. That must be for Rashard Lewis I imagine. It'd be a terrible move for the Sonics, in my opinion.

Also, a bit surprised the Magic haven't made an offer yet to Darko. He wouldn't be bad with the Wizards actually. Solid shot blocker and a great passer.

How would that be a good move? Especially if they're giving up Lewis for him? I'm not saying they are but that seems to make the most sense. Either way, I think with Green and Durant they don't need Rip

Plus, I hate Rip and I like Saden and he deserves to have a good NBA team out there in the Emerald City

I think Lewis is a UFA after opting out. He's going to go wherever he wants- according to his agent, 20 teams are interested in him... problem is, not many teams have the cap space to fit his 15/per. If he goes to the Magic, the Sonics won't have to work a S&T. I would rather not have to see him in the SE division regularly though.

And yeah, Rip for Rashard is a terrible trade for the Sonics.

Yeah he is scheduled to spend a couple of days in Orlando this week. I think it'll either be there or he stays in Seattle. But there still is the slim possibility he'll want to go someplace like Houston and a sign and trade will be agreed to

and they dont need another small foward/power foward they just gave up allen if they get hamilton(who is better and a veteran leader unlike Lewis that would be a steal and detriot would be stupid for doing that str8 up.

Well, latest is that Rashard has agreed to sign with the Magic for 5 year, $75 million. And the Magic will let Darko become an urestricted free agent. If I'm the Wizards I definitely make a call to Darko's agent now

Talk about chemistry-killer! His game has improved over the past few years and he does alot of the dirty work in the post... still isn't enough to justify a pickup. I like what we've got and what EG's building.

This is HUGE. I never though JCN would ever get out of Spain, considering they were going to make him fork up all that cash. This would be a huge part of bench scoring, should he finally make it over.

That, or he could be a great bargaining chip. Add him to Haywood, Thomas, or Daniels and suddenly you can get a lot more value in return.

But he could also be insurance in case DeShawn leaves. Either way, this is definitely big news

Not a fan of the Posey rumor. He's a solid player, but he's had his problems and he wants to get paid.

With Pesh, Young, and JCN all coming this year, it's like be had three first round picks in one year (I know JCN was a second rounder, but he definitely would have been a first had he come out this year).

Should be interesting to see who we can afford to keep. If we can't pull off a big trade, I suspect we let Deshawn go.

Well I've heard from multiple sources that Posey is a done deal. He's coming to DC...provided a sign-and-trade can be agreed to. But then, the question is why would either Riley or Grunfeld agree to help the other out? Divisions rivals, I don't buy it And if it's really JCN for Posey that's awful. Etan for Posey maybe. And is it just me, or are we all forgetting about Songaila?

I'd like to hold on to JCN and see what he can do in this offense

Not only that, but Posey is already 30, and I'm pretty sure JCN is 26. This would be a shame. I see the logic in trading JCN's rights now, especially since Young is supposed to play a similar bench scoring role, but not for Posey.

Ugh, this isn't a very even trade. Although Posey is the perfect type of defender our team could use... I'd rather use La Bomba as part of a trade to get rid of Etan's contract.
