They're wrong often, especially on history-related stuff. They also have a certain political bias that affects their data. That's been thoroughly documented. Sometimes it resembles the National Enquirer more than the Britannica. I never trust Wiki and try to find backup sources before I believe anything from their site. I knew about the Sunday Ticket contracts already though...just agreeing with Daseal and Cowell about Wiki. ;) |
Re: nfl network gone?
Yeah Wiki isn't exactly a very reliable source.
|
Re: nfl network gone?
It will be interesting to see what happens. Verizon def. has the $$ to make a real big push to land sunday ticket, at least to make DTV really work to keep the contract. But like many said (and for me its the same) the ONLY reason i have DTV is Sunday ticket. They will have a huge decrease in their #'s and likewise Verizon will have a huge increase. Fios is ok i had it at the house i was staying at b4 i moved, the TV service is alright... but the internet is crazy fast, totally awesome.

Re: nfl network gone?
Unless your apartment building was wired for it, FIOS won't be available in most apartments. Luckily they took care of the condo I'm renting a while back. The speed in apartments are slightly decreased since they run cat 5 instead of fiber from the wiring closet to your house.

You live in PA...I live in NM...you don't know what boonies are until you lived in a place that literally has no towns around it for an hour in any direction. |

I have yet to see where they were wrong. Maybe I don't visit the site enough or something. But still, I asked for some sort of link proving that they are not always accurate, and no one has provided it. |

Yea it was a mess while they were doing the wiring for my complex here (I work in the office) all sorts of issues/ horror stories. What i thought was retarded was that they got the contract to run the fiber and drop all new lines, but then decided to piggyback on the existing coax (from 1986) So if you use a hardline to your router instead of going wireless it seriously mutilates your speed |

That doesn't seem very intelligent on wikipedia's part. |
Re: nfl network gone?
That doesn't seem very intelligent on wikipedia's part.
That's the whole point of it.
Wikipedia is an online free-content encyclopedia that anyone can edit. Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales has described Wikipedia as "an effort to create and distribute a multilingual free encyclopedia of the highest quality to every single person on the planet in his or her own language." Wikipedia exists to bring knowledge to everyone who seeks it.
|
Re: nfl network gone?
That doesn't seem very intelligent on wikipedia's part.
Nope. The founder of the site even admitted the people who have the power to "fix" people's edit had a liberal leaning too, which is not good when it comes to history and political articles. I'm not saying they're always wrong, but it makes people pick and choose which facts to include and also makes people interpret things differently and therefore affects how they write things. An encyclopedia SHOULD be written without emotions or opinions tarnishing actual facts. It's basically a big collection of people's writings, whether they're factual or editorial-styles, only the authors know. Wiki is more of a hangout/blog-type thing than legit resource. This is why most schools (at least the decent ones) ban students from using it as a reference in their papers and reports. |

I thought this part was amusing: Wikipedia exists to bring knowledge to everyone who seeks it. How are getting knowledge if it's just someone's opinion that hasn't been verified? The only thing they are doing is causing more ignorance than embracing knowledge! I'm very glad you guys pointed this out to me. |

I think there's something called Wikiscanner now that tells you who's editing what. Wikipedia is usually accurate, but it never hurts to have a second source to confirm |

The trick for those of us in college, use Wikipedia, but follow the links people provide to the article!
