Re: Fins Cut Culpepper...Who picks him up?
Absolutely agree...Atlanta would be pretty dumb not to explore this option.
Does anyone know how this works in terms of salary for Culpepper? I'm a little hazy as to how it works after he is cut, so can someone sign him for whatever they want?
Plus you'll be able to convince Dante to come over with a semi-juicy contract. They'll probably be able to convince him that he'll get the starting job since Vick is in all of this legal trouble. It's gold for Atlanta, because if Vick doesn't play (which seems likely)... Culpepper steps in. If he doesn't, than you've got a much better backup. |

I honestly don't know, but I figure that the latest turn of events may have raised his stock a good amount. |

LOL.
I honestly don't know, but I figure that the latest turn of events may have raised his stock a good amount.
See, I feel the opposite. His stock can't get any lower. Here are the Dolphins, who have had horrible QB's since Marino left, and they are choosing a 37 (if I recall correctly) year old over Culpepper. They have made a lot of noise about his knees, and I feel that other teams would be wary of him meaning his stock has hit almost rock bottom. The only thing he has going for him is that 1 MONSTER season he had, and the fact that he's still young. |
The second I heard about Culpepper being released... Atlanta was the first team to come to mind.
Dante Culpepper is a monstrous upgrade over Joey Harrington.
Can someone tell me how Joey H is still in the NFL?? I know he has game experience but he really sucks. He's always good for 2-3 picks a game. |

Well you are correct. The only thing he has done the last few years is get hurt, throw interceptions and fumble. But Miami still was in the wrong IMO. |

If you were Miami, or any other NFL team for that matter how would you have handled it? I agree it sucks but I wouldn't say it was 'wrong'. That's business in the NFL. |
Re: Fins Cut Culpepper...Who picks him up?

lets speculate. 8 mil, 1 year, incentive laden. |

Look at us...we called for Arch's head when he was under performing...should we have given him another year? For those of you who think we shouldn't pick him up, look at his stats, especailly his comp% numbers. This is a guy that WILL rebound. Yeah, I think you're right about the one year deal, but who's going to pay 8 mil for a bench player to start out with? I'd sign him for a couple mil a season, but for 8 mil, he can stay on free agent list. |

Now, though, It's Atlanta 1 with Jacksonville a distant 2 (if for no other reason than to stay in Florida because he would be the 4th best QB on the team). I doubt he plays backup outside in a cold city. If not Atlanta, I expect him to wait for a preseason injury. He foresees himself as one of the top QB's in the league and I would think he'd rather sit a season than play second.
The reason I kept Jacksonville as a first option even with Vicks indictment is simple Dante is his own agent so he's going to go where 1 he wants, 2 pays well 3 can start. In jacksonville you have 2 Qb's on their last year contract meaning he can ask for a bigger contract because they have for cap space now and the future. in Atlanta you have Vicks huge 130 mill contract with a 35 signing bonus hanging there so that even if tehy release him it's going to cost big time leavinf less leverage ofr a Contract. Add J.Harringtons new Contract to the mix and it makes it even harder. If dante signs he will sure start ahead of joey but there's no way Dante will sign with atlanta if he doesn't know for a fact tha tvick will be suspended or release that's why it's my third option. |

Re: Fins Cut Culpepper...Who picks him up?
I've never been a huge Culpepper fan. But I think he'll help someone out if they have some other offensive weapons. Wish him goodluck! But please don't come to DC.

Re: Fins Cut Culpepper...Who picks him up?
I don't see Culpepper going to the bucs with all the QB'S they have plus all of the uncertainty behind his injury. Moreover, i don't think that Daunte is exactly a Gruden type of guy (i.e. an efficient, patient passer who methodically picks apart a defense).

Re: Fins Cut Culpepper...Who picks him up?
totally off the subject, but i thought this would be of interest to some. I am in London right now and I went to a pub with a loosely american theme. They had an entire wall dedicated to American football which was dominated by Redskins paraphernalia including banners of all 3 superbowl wins. It was beautiful and it almost brought a tear to my eye. Also their Cowboys stuff was minimal at best and isolated in a small dark corner of the wall.

Sportscenter is still guessing he will end up in Jacksonville.
Yes they have a lot of QB's but are any of them any good? Sorry but Gradkowski is not NFL material. He missed so many wide open guys last year it wasn't even funny. And Luke McNown? Who the hell is he? Plus Simms is coming off a very serious injury plus he played like shit before he got hurt. So that leaves 37 year old Garcia. They have one guy that is a good NFL QB. What if he gets hurt? Then they are right back where they were last year. No depth at QB. If I were Gruden and my job was on the line I would sign the guy ASAP. |

He would have to be a back up then learn the plays. So now all the Bucs did was undercut their belief in the QB's on the roster. I just don't think it was a smart move when you have that many QB's. Culpepper would instantly become the best qb on the team if they signed him, but I think they just hurt the team with that move. (especially since they likely won't sign him) |

Looking like a one-year deal with the Raiders is close to happening. Could be tonight.
Brunell is the best back-up in the league. Until he has to play.
Re: Fins Cut Culpepper...Who picks him up?
The sack and fumble was caused by Jansen's missed block and Ramsey's
subsequent unconsciously. The interception wasn't his fault either and I don't recall the other fumble. He was playing well and moving the ball and had just put us in scoring position for the second time when Jansen blew it. Brunell stunk up the field for the rest of the game. Playing two and a half quarters he threw for less than a hundred yards and failed to move the ball. Gibbs, of course, was fine with that. However, I'm bowing out on this matter now. I don't want to deal with this business again. Returning to a time when fans turned on a QB who was our leading ground gainer over a four year period in behalf of a coach who had made a horrible decision even to bring Brunell in for the first place is something I don't want to do.
You are correct! What you have to understand is the Gibbs is god crew will side with his every word no matter what. There is absolutly no possibility he was wrong about Ramsey, just like there's no possibility he was wrong about bringing in Brunell, other than a defense putting Brunell on their back and carrying him into the playoffs, while he was given the best starting field position in the NFL all season long he has done absolutly nothing! In fact his play in 2 of 3 seasons has been as bad as I have ever seen for a long term starting QB. If anyone thinks we wouldn't made the playoffs in 2005 if Gibbs stuck with Ramsey, IMO they are sadly mistaken. The rest of the NFL all knew what Brunell was coming out of Jack's. the book on Brunell was he no longer would take the hit, which didn't allow him to look down field, and we have seen absolutely nothing to contradict that! Culpepper though I want nothing to do with! |

Surely if Vick is convicted, Atlanta won't be responsible for that whole contract. I'm not an expert or anything, but that doesn't sound right. I would think there is a clause in the contract somewhere that says if you are a dumbass and you get yourself in deep doodoo and have to go away for a while, you ain't gettin' paid. |

In turn, that may give Culpepper all the help he needs. Remember, this franchise has not had a remotely NFL caliber QB since Gannon retired in February of 2005. |

Well, I do think Porter has a lot of talent...but his head is bigger than his game. Your comments about the O-Line just proves my point that he can't do it himself. He is just trying to find any starting job to "prove himself" but it appears only the Raiders are interested...if he ends with 13 tds and 21 ints, then it will set him back at least 2 years. |
