Whats the difference between what Vinny does and what a GM does?

I'm really okay with this move. Our personnel hasn't been bad recently. We've gotten a few late round gems. I figured it was Gibbs, but this is the time to see if it was or not. I'll give it a shot, and if nothing else it created the GM type of position which keeps us from having a coach with a ton of responsibility.

Accountability is the big plus here. The Redskins can no longer make personnel moves and act like everyone in the organization was behind it.

It's Vinny now who is responsible for all football operations. If the team improves, you know who to credit. If if bombs, you know who to blame.

If we are blame Vinny for the bad moves of the last few years, does he not get credit for the good moves as well?
As has been said, though not without some questionable moves, our front office has had some big success's as well

I just want a good football team that will challenge for a superbowl sometime in the near future and put together some back to back good seasons, is that too much to ask? Why do the gods test our fanhood every year? I swear we have been cursed ever since we moved out of RFK.

Daniel Snyder is the cross that every skins fan must bear...even when things seem like they are headed in the right direction for once we can't breathe easy b/c we know Snyder is sitting back in some dark corner conjuring up ways to screw us over (even if his intentions are good). I know this kind of thing wouldnt happen to any other football team in the league, just the skins. ARRGHHH

C'mon....they are just fighting their guts out at Redskins park to get it right....

I know what I'd do if I were the Skins owner....promote my unqualified buddy to run everything and hire some outsider to come in and change everything for my team that has finally stabilized and has become a playoff team...

For all of you that think Gibbs has rubbed off on Snyder...this is the thread for you....WOW promoting Cerrato? Cerrato?

Players and coaches are distraught over the poorly worded press release regarding Cerrato's promotion and Jim Fassel's emergence as a candidate with multiple interviews. They are taking a lot of grief from other team''s people down there and, according to some league sources, [B]the word "laughingstock" is being thrown around in regards to how the team is operating[/B]."

Like I said before, this whole process is very amateurish. Aside from teetering on the brink of being the "laughingstock" of the league again, coaches are in Mobile supposedly looking at talent but worried about their jobs. Makes you think their focus won't be affected at all.

People want to give Snyder some slack because he made money in the corporate world. Fine. But this goes to show that just because someone makes money in mergers and acquisitions does not mean they are expert managers of people.

Is this your way of creating wiggle room and an excuse for Vinny if the team does not do well in the next 3 to 5 years? 'Well Vinny was not the GM, he was only VP."
The way it reads to me, Vinny and Snyder are in charge and will make all of the final decisions on all coach hirings/firings and player pesonnel decisions. Sounds like GM to me.

I do not believe Danny has the skills to run the day to player personnell and coaching selection process for billion dollar NFL football team. He is not a football man.

???=Ireland

There's still room for someone else, should they decide to go that route

I know we have. I am getting tired of it to.
However two playoff wins in 16 years and having to suffer watching alot of poor to average football, leads me to believe 'it is broken..fix it.'
The [B]Steve Spurrier era under Snyde[/B]r was the ugliest and least disciplined [B]Redskins football [/B]I have ever watched in my 43 years of being a Redskins fan.

Some have said that it might be hard to separate Vinnie's role in the recent improvementin the Skins' roster from Gibbs' role. Fair enough. But Vinnie has been here for almost a decade - - save for that one year when Marty was here and Vinnie was unemployed. [Please note that none of the other 31 NFL teams started a stampede to acquire his services during that unemployment interlude.]

So Vinnie was advising Danny Boy on the merits of player acquisitions such as Jeff George and Deon Sanders and all those safeties they brought in who couldn't cover a picnic table. Was it Vinnie or Gibbs who thought Bruce Smith was a positive addition to the Skins? After all, Gibbs may have been secretly pulling the strings while pretending to be involved with NASCAR, no?

No let's look at the list of players touted to Vinnie's accomplishments recently - - not over the past decade. Some good selections; some mediocre ones:


Anthony Montgomery - a decent defensive lineman, but DL was and remains a glaring weakness for this team. Does he start at DT for any other NFC East team? I don't think so. Could he start at DT for any other team that made the playoffs this year? I don't think so.

Kedric Golston - lots of heart and hustle. Never takes a play off. Still, he's a journeyman at best.

Reed Doughty - I doubt that a single offensive coordinator in the NFL stays up late figuring out how to adjust his gameplan around reed Doughty.

Chris Cooley - a certified star in the making.

Rocky McIntosh - one year sitting on the bench for 15 games trying to "learn the system" and one year on IR. Hasn't shown greatness on the field yet but potential is still there.

Chris Wilson - Yawn.

Stephon Heyer - Starts at RT for what other NFL team? Even as "depth", I doubt he's a key in the Skins' future.

Jason Campbell - Still developing as a QB and might turn out to be the best draft pick of the last decade for the Skins - - even better than Cooley.

Carlos Rogers - Good but hardly great.

Sean Taylor - RIP

Laron Landry - Looks to have the makings of a star once he learns more about the kinds of mind-game that QBs can play with DBs.

Perhaps Snyder was more at fault for our more glaring personnel mistakes? Fact is we really don't know. Perhaps with Vinny in a more prominent decision making position we'll start to find out who the village idiot really is.

I wish I could agree with you but you know Danny will continue to want final say on all player acquisitions...despite Vinny's new title, this changes nothing IMO...you still have those two clowns running the show...

now I'm not going to sit here and act like I know how to run a football team better than those two...all I know is the record since Danny started running the team with his yes-man as the token GM....
