Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Speaking of Williams, did he and Mooch have any problems while in Detroit or were they pretty cool ? I ask this because if they ahd a good relationship then he could be a possibility with CJ being the smokescreen. I would prefer Johnson though, he'd make the games pretty fun besides the possible upside to havinh him line up alongside Moss.
IMO, Roy Williams is a better player and will cost less to acquire than Chad Johnson. |

I like your thinking...one more reason to hope mooch gets the job |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Would Moss even want to come here? I know money definitely talks, but he is with an organization that is stable and WINS!
The Skins need to find some stability. If the Redskins have learned anything it is that big names do not always translate in to consistent players or mean your oganization is going to win. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
L.F. also has a crazy cap figure, so trading for the guy would eat up tons of cap space and a high draft pick. If we were to trade for him and sign him to a new contract, he'd certainly want a massive deal. If you're earning more than $10M per year (yes I said $10M), why would you take anything less than a blockbuster deal? If we are intent on using free agency or trades to get a star wideout, I would vote for trading for Roy Williams, who is reportedly on the block.
I 2 would like Williams over CJ. I'm not saying having CJ would be bad cuz if it happened after a reasonable trade, I'd be all for it, but I think Williams would fit the west coast offense system a little better plus be a bit cheaper since he's had some durability issues. If the Skins end up with either for a reasonable price, I'd be ecstatic. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
CJ is obviously the best choice (but 30, and we cant give up our #1 for him on top of his contract and call it a big win).
then LF, who'd have issues with money/cap/team comp (ick). then roy williams (who might be the cheapest while still providing the true #1 WR we need, or at least being insurance against moss's hamstrings and providing a much better starting duo) while i REALLY want CJ, getting roy would probably be a lot cheaper, and i'd be happy about how that need was addressed. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
If we're going to overpay for someone I would rather see CJ here over Moss.
I can see how you would like CJ over Moss as people, but as players, no team in the NFC east would ever want to see him on our team. Having him on our squad would instantly accelerate the development of JC or make any other QB at the time Pro Bowl worthy. Randy Moss ALL day! |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I am so sick of hearing of free agents! anyone familiar with Marques Colston? We need to get a good scout and find a diamond in the rough somewhere in the draft. Because of big players like Ocho Cinco we can't even afford to keep the good ones we draft (i.e. Antonio Pierce from a couple years ago).

#1 WRs don't come often in the 7th round, and we could afford pierce, but the forces that be didn't think he was worth the price... and welcome. are you at sheppard right now? |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
No, I'm taking advantage of the cheap tuition here at Midwestern State University (Dominic Rhodes graduated from there). But sheppard is real close.:)
Thanks for welcomes... I look foward to contributing and getting my info to and from this site. |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G?
We need him for our redzone scheme. I scream every time we just try to punch it in with portis twice then try to punch it in with betts. Lets bring Ocho here and have him perform. Now I know that punch it in style in the redzone was Jibbs "thing" but in all Ocho in the redzone is what we need.

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G?
price being taken into account, i'd rather have tj whosyamomma. roy williams would also be a good low-er budget guy to go after. i think CJ will be quite pricey.

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
There is a very persistent story out there that Johnson and Hue Jackson got into fisticuffs in the locker room at halftime of the Bengals' playoff loss to the Steelers (the game where Carson Plamer had to be carried off in the 1st quarter) because Johnson didn't think his number was being called enough. There is also a persistent story that when Marvin Lewis brok up the altercation, Lewis caught a punch - - that was "an accident".
Even if that story is "embellished a bit", I think it would give one reason to suspect that ocho cinquo might not be named "teammate of the decade". |

You could be right though. Somewhat off-topic, I think the Bengals made a mistake in not firing Marvin Lewis. He seems to have lost that team and I just don't think he's the right fit for them. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
SmootSmack:
Agree Lewis seems to have lost the Bengals. I think he's not getting fired for economic reasons. The Bengals just don't like to pay people who don't work for them. |

I didn't know it came to blows though. Consider that this was during Cincy's best season w/him as I recall. They were an up & coming team but seemed to regress since then. |

What number would Oucho Cinco wear? 81 is out of the question.
What number would Oucho Cinco wear? 81 is out of the question.
Wouldn't he wear #85? Brandon Lloyd sure won't need it. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
You gotta figure Danny would back load his contract and give him a huge signing bonus. or maybe CJ wants out bad enough he would rework his contract with the Bengals and allow a trade of some sort probubly draft picks. Hopefully he would not kill us in the $$$ and the team would except perhaps a draft pick that would not hurt us. Who knows maybe the bad publicity works in our favor. lol. Similar to Moss or TO.
Anyone hear or rumored to have heard any other bad news about CJ. lol. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Well, like Randy Moss in New England, maybe Chad just needs a change. While I know the reasons for Moss wanting to go to NE (going to a Super Bowl contender,) he seems to be a brand new player.
I honestly say I'd probably give ol' chad Johnson a shot. Couldn't be any worse than having Michael Westbrook. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
After watching the Super Bowl, I think the Redskins should spend their money on D-lin and O-line. I would like to see them draft and thru free agency bolster both lines. Our recievers are underated and will look alot better, with an improved O-line.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
You know I completely forgot that Moss went to the Patriots hoping to win a SB. lol. That makes it all the more enjoyable. Unless for some ungodly reason he ends up with us in the off season then I'm totally denying this.lol.

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
Greg Novis has given me some inside information, the Skins will have OCHO CINCO and all the Bengas are asking for in return is Brandon Lloyd and a 3rd round draft pick.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
A lot of this sounds great on paper, but I just think we can do better for cheaper. I would love seing him play for us, just because he brings a spark like Clinton does. But, with the draft coming, and our other needs, I don't think we need an established big name WR. I want him here, but not if it's going to cost us a high pick, or big money.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
the bengals are on crack if they want lloyd and that may be an untenable cap hit between the release and CJ's new contract, so i'm not sure i can believe that as legit inside info.
i guess we'll see though. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
The Skins will overpay either him or Randy Moss.
In this day and age who don't you have to overpay? |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I think with all of the coaching problems up in the air, I dont see it happening this year. Even if we could get him, i don't think we will have enough time to focus on it.
|
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
They need to televise the meetings between Rosenhaus, Snyder and CJ.
That would be very entertaining. |

YES! I said the exact same thing at the end of the season. WR's are really exciting and everything, but people tend to get caught up in the hype too easily. If your QB doesn't have time, your WR's cant get open, and you can't complete down field passes. I like the idea of a bigger WR just as much as anyone, but realistically I think we'd be better off bolstering our lines. |
Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
If thats true, all the bengals want is Brandon Lloyd and a third pick i would do that in a heart beat, then we could use our first picks on CB and Dline. With Joe Buegle still on our staff i dont believe we need to spend a top pick on oline, he can coach any player to be great. Oh, and did i mention Brandon loyd is trash? Im surprised teams would even give up a 5th or a 6th for him...

i guess we'll see though.
Actually, I was listening to NFL Radio yesterday and they were saying that it is a $6 million cap hit for the Bengals to unload Johnson this season. However, they'll get the money back he would have made in salary, $2.8 million. Therefore, they would only be taking a $3.2 million cap hit next season, then he'd be off the books. NOTE: I may have the $2.8 and $3.2 backwards, it could be a $2.8 cap hit with a salary of 3.2, but either way, it's not that much of a difference. As big of a headache for the Bengals as Chad is becoming in Cincy, I think that $3 million (split the difference) is not that big of a hit. |

Uh, yeah, right.. Do we get draft rights to the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy as well? Seriously, I don't see him coming here under Fassel. He's more of a disciplinarian who doesn't put up with a bunch of foolishness. |

Who is Greg Novis? And why would the Bengals trade for someone that will most likely get cut anyways? |

Re: Ocho Cinco In B&G
I would rather be paying someone to play then to sit on the bench. I would also rather they not get hurt easily. They already have "Who's your mama." All they need is a #2 or #3 WR. So having said that .....Geez, I don't know if this is a good deal for us or not? I mean Lloyd is one of the best WR out there and the only reason he didn't play was because he got injured. He's all better now and not a locker room problem. He always made those clutch catches also. Name another WR out there who has his speed and hands. No don't because you all know he's the best at what he does! I sure hope no Bengals come over to our site and start getting ideas about taking Lloyd from us. I hope DS does not take this deal. ; )
