Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach

Wow.

So after perhaps the most thorough head coaching hiring process in recent memory Snyder chooses a guy they didn't even intend to interview for head coach. Not saying that it won't work out with Zorn--but can anyone feel confident in the Snyder/Cerrato decision making process?

If it was about a systematic interview process--where names are whittled down to an eventual pick--fine I buy it. Even an eleventh hour candidate added to the list, who wows them, might have us thinking that the approach was valid. But to hire Zorn as the OC and then two weeks later name him HC is bizarre at best. At worst, it is indicative of some sort of last minute snafu with the remaining candidates that management did not forsee. Of course the spin will be that ultimately Snyder thought long and hard and Zorn just stuck in his memory as the best interview (whether for HC, OC, or position coach). Then they sat down with Zorn again and he impressed them even more.

I hope it works out with Zorn. I hope this management team knows something we don't. But instead of feeling confident with this hire--I'm left feeling a bit confused. I guess that's where we Skins' fans are left now with Snyder and Cerrato in charge. Confusion instead of confidence...

Didn't really see this coming, but I think it's a good hire. At least we now have a sense of direction, and the speculation can end. Good hire, happy for Zorn.

I mentioned that earlier. Same coaching tree, same situation. He was the QB coach in GB when Philly snagged him.

GREAT Press Release... everyone read... love what Zorn is saying already...

JIM ZORN NAMED HEAD COACH

"I've always dreamed of being a head coach with a franchise rich in tradition like the Redskins," Zorn said. "As a player who had to fight Redskins teams at RFK as well as at our home field, I know about the history of this franchise as well as the passion of its fans. I won't let you down."

"I know about the history and great fans of the Redskins. I played against the Redskins. I played against our two newest Hall of Famers, Art Monk and Darrell Green," Zorn said. "Like all Redskins fans, I am a long-time admirer of Joe Gibbs.

"Thanks to him, today's Redskins have a solid foundation that will serve us well. I expect great things of our team, and hold myself accountable for providing the leadership to make us successful."

He's saying all the right things (but else would he say). I think the choice is not ideal but it doesn't matter now. As a Skins fan I'm all in and pulling for the guy.

I would rather have a young coach who might be great or might be bad than A coach who is proven to be o.k at best. The only thing that worries me is how the players are going to take it.

How the hell are you going to fire Greg Williams and hire Zorn? It makes no damn sense. How the hell do you explain that to the team and the fans? The players must be laughing. Snyder just hired the guy cause he feels most comfortable with Zorn. IMO he certainly didn't hire the best person for the job.

Well ya can't have everything.....as life goes. But he is young.

From all accounts from players I have heard speak on the mans behalf, players have said nothing but great things and that he is a players coach. I think he will be fine in that regard.

This is Zorn's debut as head coach so it is safe to say that nobody knows if he is the right person for the job except Snyder. I do not like Snyder at all but he is the head of a team that I live and breathe. I trust this hire and if he takes us to a superbowl then I will have followed him all the way from the begining. If he fails.... well.... 1992 was a looooong time ago and its safe to say we are all used to a little defeat. Stay strong Skins fans and trust your team. Its gonna be okay. Just laying the facts out there, that's all. A lot of people are talking about his youth and experience, but there is nothing out there that really supports that. I am hoping the guy is Andy Reid II in terms of a QB coach becoming a HC but no need for blowing sunshine up the backsides.

Trust your team???? Sorry but I just don't trust Snyder and Vinny and this hire shows me that they are not doing what's best for the team. But I hope it works out. But if we start out losing next year it's really going to get ugly around here. This is not the place to be learning on the job training.

That's the concern. We're talking about an owner who wants to win now because he too often still thinks like the fans who want to win now.

Please name me any team that is good for on the job training. Every team has a fanbase and it is safe to say no team's fans want that situation. Its okay not to trust DS and VC but what choice do we have? He saw something in Zorn that he didnt see in Fassel.

Falcons, Saints, Cardinals, Texans, Lions. Basically any team that is not only use to loosing in recent years but also one that doesn't have a history of winning a Super Bowl. Of course the teams I mention also function as career killers, but at least the fans will be a lot eaiser on you.

What a relief

The most refreshing thing about the Zorn hire is that we can't reasonably expect this guy to have a winning season his first time out. If we go 1-15 next season, I'll be disappointed . . . but at least I won't be ANGRY. Every other coach was expected to win and win quickly. For those of you that think that the Zorn hiring is a joke and embarrassing, you may be right, but this needed to happen and it needed to happen a long time ago.

Well seeing as how the term young is a relative term that depends on an indivduals perception your not really laying any facts out there now are you.See, I can split hairs too.I also dont see how I am blowing sushine up anyones backside but whatever you are entitled to your opinion.Anyways, I like the hire only because it maybe means that Snyder is no longer picking retreads and looking to start something fresh.Maybe it will work maybe it wont, none of use know.

Well, I think this is a good move, though I don't know a lot about Jim Zorn. From what people are saying about him, I get the feeling he is, as Shawn Springs says, very smart and very sharp.

As a point for his character, I like that he is very involved with Medical Teams International, which is dedicated to getting proper health care to disadvantaged people in developing countries.

Character counts, and everyone seems to praise his character.

He has had long tutelage under one of the great coaches in the NFL, Mike Holmgren, who wanted to keep him.

Intuitively, he seems like a person who is ready to lead an NFL team, and be successful.

I think we should welcome Jim Zorn and be supportive of him.

1984 16 games played 12-4 team record **17 attempted passes. Krieg took over. (0/2)

So where is everybody getting the great signal caller under center idea from? I am just trying to wrap my head around this.
