Rod marinelli already comfirmed Roy Williams isn't going anywhere... I know it sucks, but hey.. thats the way it is..

Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?

He confirmed he isn't going anywhere for now. We'll see how he feels about that as the draft nears. |

Good, let's go out to the backyard and pick one or two, since they are growin on trees now! |

get 2 extra and trade them for extra picks |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
Why do we keep talking about Wide Receivers that are not available?? Give it a rest. Stick to free agency.

What in the world are you talking about? I never said they did.. Im jsut saying we shouldn't pick up hackett at 6'2'' we need a WR that's at least 6'3closer to 6'4''.. |

:food-smil thank you... IF dan snyder can somehow get in behind the scenes awesome.. but all points to he's not going anywhere cus they Williams and Johnson and they realize what they have in them two and I dont blame them.. I dont see us getting him seriously.. |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
Why?
because I have heard hackett will want like 14 million in guaranteed money and there is NO way he's worth that IMHO.. but that's just me |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
Why?
Because Hacket can only play PG during the pick up Basketball games and thats Santana Moss's position. We're looking for a SG. However in all seriousness take a look at him DirtySkin21. The guys huge for a WR. I thought that he looked like a TE in the first few pics: YouTube - D.J Hackett Tribute The guy has the right combination of production and size IMO. |

So do you not want Hackett because of the money, or because he's "only 6'2"? |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
^^
I think a little bit of both.. I dont know maybe it's me but if we are going to pay a guy, and we want a BIG receiver... we should at least try and land a WR that's tipping 6'4''.. Like we could sign Ernest Wilford for way cheaper than that and he's 6'4'' and runs a 4.38 - 40 and he's 220lbs and he's from the area and went to school at VT.. He could be had for cheap and could make a HUGE impact but I dunno, I think hackett could be a good signing for a potential number 2 if we can't sign anyone better for around tht same price.. |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
just like this drayton florence mess, he's not better than smoot, So i dont see why we are interested? he's gonna want wayy too much money for what he's worth..
He's def not better than rogers and springs and I think Smoot, Rogers, and Springs are VERY close in talent, but Rogers potential is way better than Springs. As he is declining and Smoot looks to be playing that solid 2nd or 3rd cb role. |

Wilford's yards per game numbers aren't as good as Hacket's. Just because we need a big Reciever doesn't mean we need the BIGGEST reciever. Hacket is also familiar with the system that Zorn's going to run. On top of that scouts around the league feel that Hacket has the potential to be a #1 reciever. Wilford on the other hand looks to me like a career #2 guy. |

Wilford will come way cheaper than hackett and the jags runs a west coast style offense too so that's not a problem. We need a posession receiver, and a good number 2 would be perfect. I haven't heard anything saying we needed a number 1, I just heard we need a compliment to santana and I think wilford would be just that.. Not only is he big but he's fast and just because his YPC isn't that great doesnt mean anything, the jags have had a crazy qb situation with injuries and cuts and everything so no wonder his numbers havent been the best.. DO you honestly think Hackett is a better WR than Santana? I agree he didnt have the best season last year but he was injured and we have ayoung QB and all that. I just think we could sign Wilford and then tend to other more pressing needs that are going to be addresed. But I dont see the problem in bring in both of them but dan shouldnt pay him 14 mil guaranteed or hes a fool. |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
There's more rumors out there that Roy Williams is on the trading block.
I'm a firm believer in the Skins building thru the draft, but I'd have to seriously think about trading our #1 for RW. Now, i'm not sure what kind of contract he'll want or get, but that would be my main concern. Somehow, if they could work it out...it would be tempting. Rumor has it he can be had. |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
Roy Williams may not like it here.
Roy Williams, a Pro Bowler last year, didn't think the Lions receivers were a good fit in the West Coast scheme, either. "We had tall, fast receivers, not Jerry Rice types," he says. "We had the Randy Moss type of guys who stretched the field, and that's what we wanted to do. That's what Joey wanted to do. He didn't always want to dink and dunk, but that's what the West Coast is — higher-percentage balls."
Flashback: Joey Harrington says he was handcuffed by Lions | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press |

the eagles made an offer to him today:
It was reported on a Detroit radio station that the Eagles have offered CB Lito Sheppard, and their 2008 2nd/4th/6th rounders for Roy Williams. An agent who doesn't represent Roy, said " Roy is definitely on the block " |

I kinda want to see the Redskins get involve with this...but how much will it cost them? It appears from the Eagles offer that a 2nd round pick wouldn't be enough.

Hackett is all we need, and if desperate, B. Johnson. Williams is too much $$$ and we can draft a youngster who will be as good or better than Williams in the future. He is a former first round pick and will want to be compensated by someone who can afford him. |

The Redskins are not interest in B. Johnson according to the Wash Post's JLC, and they've only made minimal contact with Hackett's agent.. I'm just concern about having the NFC East teams with big time receivers...and we're sort of behind...I mean no offense to Santana, he's a good player and all...but he hasn't been much of a factor. I just would hate for us to stick with our current receivers while the Giants have Plax, Cowgirls TO, and if the Eagles were to land Roy Williams or even Fitz |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
Its going to be okay for us with Santana and whoever else we get either in the draft or the FA. I think we need to not trade away our top pics though because the draft pool is very hot this year and we are in a state of "mini" rebuilding.

Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
Based on trades the past few years, a good cb + picks in rounds 2,4 & 6 is offering a lot. The iggles I believe are heeding Donovan's request; get some playmakers.
This has been a season of role reversal w/us & the iggles, we're keeping picks (so far) & they're signing big contracts & looking to make moves by trading their picks (if this is true). I think they believe they have a contender if they just get a couple more players, starting w/a big play wr. |

I think Roy Williams is going to be a star in the league. I see your numbers but they are numbers in Detroit with Martz & Kitna. He's still young...IMO he's worth the picks. We may end up spending the #1 pick on an unproven WR anyway...the extra #3 just ensures we get a good one. |

I hear you. I would just be a little gun-shy giving up 2 high round picks for a guy who has proven to be fragile (can't argue that) and blames his production on the system. He can't take the credit for his 1310 yd season (a season in which the Lions had two 1000+ receivers) and then blame the same system the next year (in which he was out gained by Shaun McDonald and was only a few yards ahead of rookie Calvin Johnson). I wouldn't mind picking him up for a 1 and a lower round pick but I think the team needs to hold on to their higher round picks. |

I would love to get him for less but if the Eagles offers are true then we will need to offer more then they are. Unless we have a player copmparable to Lito that we can include then we need to offer better draft picks. I just can't believe they would take any offer from Philly that does not even include a #1...then again Matt Millen is on the other end of that phone. |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
I would have to think about it.
I would do it for a #1 and a low pick straight up. I would even be willing to trade one of our receivers, ARE and a mid-low pick for RW. RW and SM as a 1-2 WR threat is not bad. Matter of fact, i would go out on a limb and say it would be one of the best tandems in the league. Throw in Cooley and wow. I'd be excited. |
Re: Roy Williams (WR) for a 2nd Round Pick?
In a heartbeat.
What's the deal with this though. Why is detroit trying to unload him? It seems to me that he and CJ make a pretty potent team and a huge benefit to any QB they start.
I think they realize that they have too much money invested at the WR position and are trying to diversify and spread out the cap $ evenly amongst the positions. Plus, with his salary gone, they can use it for draft picks or free agent signings. |

He signed a pretty cap friendly contract also...he might be the one player the skins could work into a trade...but that's assuming the league has any interest in Betts. RB is a position that tends to get devalued around the league. |
