Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Bruce Smith recorded double digit sacks in a Washington uniform and was serviceable for several years. He was by no means a great pickup, but he wasn't awful either.
Brandon Lloyd is the winner for the reasons Schneed discussed. |
Asher wasn't that bad. He was decent on some middling Norv Turner teams and actually was a Pro Bowl alternate in 96 I think.
And if you're ever in Indianapolis and in need of some good financial guidance...try this link: http://www.nmfn.com/jamieasher
Plus he was a 5th round pick, not a high-priced pick up. Certainly a blast from the past, but very very very far from the worst pick-up in history. On a side note, how come all ex-athletes end up selling insurance? |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
jeffie got a coach fired, displaced a good QB, and forced marty into waiver wire tony banks (and one audible).

Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Arch was signed to the most money as a saftey in the league coming here and he ruined our secondary..the picks for duckett were BS as he ddint even dress games when coming here..but the faith we put in arch was a joke. stubblefield had potential, even brandon lloyd did.. but arch is jason sehorn 2.0

Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Brandon Llyod hands down. Cost of draft picks, a ton of cap space, locker room malcontent - just bad from every angle. At least the other players did not have all these factors against them. Also, most of these other players that everyone is talking about at least had descent stats to back up their price tag before they were acquired - Llyod was never good to begin with in the NFL and carried the all too famous "has great potential" tag with him. If you don't believe me go to NFL.com or any NFL stat website and check out his stats - he is a bum and never deserved to be traded for and paid like he was. When you look at acquiring a player one of the things you have to consider is production - which one point I want to add on - picks like Heath Shuler shouldn't be considered the worst deals because teams could only look at his college stats and you can't blame the skins for taking him because he was considered one of the top qb's in the draft that year and the SKins needed a franchise qb and Shule at Tennessee was pretty darn good.

Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
If I remember correctly didn't we give a 1st - 2nd and 3rd round draft pick to the viking for Brad Johnson? Does anyone recall?
I say Duckett purley because we gave up a 3rd round pick for a guy we pretty much knew wouldnt be anymore than a 3rd down back......but he did at least make some plays for us...
I mean...they're all bad lol
You have to remember the circumstances around it. The Skins were a playoff team the year before with high aspirations. Portis gets hurt and we were left with Betts and Cartwright who were both unproven and fumble risks at the time. Duckett was the best available insurance policy. The fact that he didn't play just meant that we didn't need the insurance payout. |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
I went with other because I can't decide between George and Lloyd. Lloyd definitely contributed less on the field but he's at a position where other players can pick up the slack. During the George years I really felt like we had no playoff chance. He was a fan-killer as well as a team-killer.

Duckett was a pricey insurance policy that we didn't end up having to cash in. Not the best move in hindsight, but I can at least understand the rationale behind the move. Tough to see how that move would top some of these other ones. |

Yes that was the deal |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Arch was clearly a bad deal but I think Lloyd trumps him because he was COMPLETELY worthless and cost us much more (in money and picks) more than Arch.. For the financial waste of Arch, the draft picks compound how much we screwed that one up.
|
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Archuleta got a bigger contract than any other safty in NFL history and single handedly devastated a top 5 NFL defense and made it nearly the worst. At least George moved the ball at times and scored TD's. At least Dieon got 1 pick. Brandon Lloyd got some catches and even caught a TD pass in preseason. TJ carried the rock a few times, and Dana helped our run defense when healthy; but Arch destroyed us statistically and on the scoreboard, blowing coverage after coverage allowing TD after TD.

Although, I think Arch hurt us more on the field than Lloyd. Money and draft pick impacts are debatable. When it came to game time performance, Arch actually was a detriment to the team and made them worse. |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
I gotta go with Duckett. We didn't really need him, but what's worse is that we didn't use him when we got him anyway. I don't really know what happened there. He wasn't a malcontent or anything like that. For whatever reason it just didn't work out.
If I were to add an "other" I might have to go with David Patten.
At least Patten had some good moments for us. When we got Duckett we had injuries so we did need a backup in case Betts got hurt. I think if you look at total cost and production its hands down Lloyd. |

lol my fault. Gotta read back a few pages. I asked about him since I was too young to remember if he was bad or good. |
I am astonished that BL isn't running away. WE GAVE UP DRAFT PICKS FOR HIM. End of conversation.
Thank you!! Stubby at least played and started for a few years. Yes he wasn't worth the money but he didn't down right suck. Duckett was bad but he didn't screw up our salary cap. George AT LEAST had one or two good games when Johnson was hurt. Remember the STL game on Mon. night? I honestly can't say one good thing about Brandon Lloyd. |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
That's an emotional argument and I think most of us are looking for more substanital reasons other than "I didn't like him" for whatever reason.
Sanders was also a financial burden. Jeff George was a locker room cancer. A draft pick was also blown on T.J.. Bruce Smith, while I don't think he was the worst acquisition, probably hindered the development of younger, more deserving players. All of these are "substantial" arguments. I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I'm guessing that some of the people who chose Lloyd aren't just basing their choice on the blown draft picks alone. If Lloyd had a good attitude and had shown some effort like Duckett, I would imagine that he wouldn't have received as many votes. Lloyd was a waste of draft picks and Lloyd was also a creep. Lloyd probably would've been my second choice based on his rapping "skills" alone. He made Deion sound like NAS, but I'm still taking Deion as the worst acquisition. Emotion has a place in arguments about sports and as a Redskins fan, Deion's history with the Cowboys is substantial enough reason for choosing him. Jamie Asher is a close second :). |

ah ok I was just confused because Asher was a decent player |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Other, The Steve Spurrier Experiment was the worst which included Rob Johnson and Danny Wuerrful.
|
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
Was a hard decision between Lloyd and Archie. They both sucked pretty hard but I chose Archie just because we shelled out so much money for him to suck.
But Lloyd was just an all-around loser. Not only did he suck but it seems as if anyone who came within a 10 foot radius of him got their morale shot down. It's one thing if you're a quiet loser but its a completely different story if you're a loudmouth ass.
Got that right. I'd have to give Lloyd the nod because we actually duped the Bears into trading something for Arch. Lloyd, we had to just cut with nothing in return. |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
My take on AA was yes he was bad, really bad, but even when he was benched the D stunk. There's no way he was the sole reason for the defensive struggles that year.
If I remember correctly didn't we give a 1st - 2nd and 3rd round draft pick to the viking for Brad Johnson? Does anyone recall?
Yes, we gave up a 1st and 3rd in 99 for him, and a 2nd in 2000 for him. Steep price to pay. But for all those that think Johnson was the biggest bust, he wasn't. He holds the Redskins single season record in completions, and is only the 2nd person in Redskins history to throw for 4000+ yards, and is second to only Jay Schroeder. For some reason he was on a short leash the following year, and DS wanted Jeff George, so we traded Johnson to Tampa, and in hindsight, that was a completely dumb move. Well, in foresight that was a dumb move too. |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
after reading everyones thoughts, i have put my utter dislike for bruce smith aside and decided to put my vote towards.....
Brandon Lloyd |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
archie. the highest paid safety ever at the time i believe and he ended up being frost's personal punt protector lol. what a terrible signing

Yeah but remember how good Ramsey looked in game one at home vs. the Cards? Oh the hopes and dreams for Suppier quickly turned into nightmares. That's when we got rid of Stephen Davis for TRUNG "falls over a blade of grass" Candidate???? |

Jeff George's record as a starter: 1-7. I guess that STL game was THE good game he had (24-34/269/3/1). George's career stats as a Redskin: 136-236 (57.6%), 1557 yds, 7 TDs, 9 INTs, 5 fumbles Plenty of bad acquisitions, George is just one of them. |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
I appologize if this was already mentioned...I just couldn't go through 8 pages of the same people. My pick was not presented Michael Westbrook. We draft him 1st round, He's injured, He's got the stomach flu, He's injured, He ran a few PR and never did well as a player. We get rid of him and all he was to GB was a glorified PR.
Other then that I would suggest Ducket. I still believe the only reason we took him was to keep the other NFC east teams from getting him. What a waist of a 4 round pick. Great RB never used. |

I went with Ducket, despite the big salaries for most of those other players. There's a little angry fan in the back of my head that reminds me, 3rd round pick!? wtf?!

Yet we gave up 2 picks for Lloyd and paid him more, so why does that not upset you? |
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
It's certainly a valid point. And honestly i was thinking that at the time, we needed Brandon more. imo. What did we give up for Brandon again?
|
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
3rd and a 4th.

Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
jesus christ, im ignorant and angry. take my vote back.

Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
I have been shown the light. Lloyd it is. Atleast Ducket was quiet and produced. No matter how minimal it was. Lloyd....2 picks....what 2 catches......his horrible rap. He wins hands down.
|
Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
I think cakes on the junkies summed it up nicely....Brandon Lloyd made roughly 3 million dollars a catch last year.

Re: Who was the worst acquisition of the last 10 years?
I'm a little late to this party, but I've got this other life that allows me to pay the bills. I'll say Neon Deion was the worst IMO. I know you've disagreed w/ me in the past about this Matty, and I don't have the time to look up each and every stat (see above comment re: "other life"), but I just can't recall him doing anything of note...except stealing $8 mil from the Redskins for one lousy year.
