So you are saying that GW is a prick...how so? Do you think he honestly doesn't have our country's best interest at heart? I think as US Americans (um...Americans) we should have some sort of respect for the President whether Rep or Dem. Booing the president is everyones right but i kind of look at it as a little rude and disrespectful IMO. |

Do you think he's really evil or just incompetent? And which would bother you more ultimately, to have a bad president or to have a mean president? What if you had the opportuntity to shake his hand on September 12, 2001? Was your perception different then? I personally don't know what booing the President really accomplishes (other than some self satisfaction, I suppose), unless one thinks that by booing your influencing the opinions of others. But what will it matter if they don't go out and vote. And if they vote one way or another based on cheers/boos at a baseball game then what does that say about the people voting? |
Re: GW Bush booed at Nationals' opener
What I don't think is getting across is that "booing" in general is boorish behavior. You want to criticize, that is everyone's God-given and Constitutionally guaranteed right, but it is one thing to say "I have a problem with the manner in which you are doing your job" and another to be making a noise with negative connotations in the direction of the holder of our country's highest office. (wow, that's a run-on sentence) Booing is, by and of itself, rude. Done in the direction of an elected official, especially the President, it's that much worse. My issue is neither with the opinion nor the fact that it is being expressed. My issue is with the manner in which it was expressed.
As for the other arguments being discussed, I think that we all can be fairly judged on the sum of our actions. If you don't judge someone based on what they do, on what do you form an opinion? |

Yeah, real hilarious. This is why the political scene is so nasty, there are so many people who are completely immature and asinine when they don't agree with someone 100% of the time. I don't care if you're a mod or not, grow up. The position of the President needs to be respected no matter who it is or how much you disagree with him. He is not to be called "Bush", "W", "George Jr." or anything other than "President Bush" or "Mr. President". The same went with "President Clinton" and with our members of Congress, no matter how much of an idiot they make themselves out to be sometimes. They still earned the position and deserve that respect even if you can't respect them individually. I doubt he'd want to get a picture with someone acting like a prick himself, but he's always completely courteous to EVERYONE he meets, even if they're being immature, vulgar little idiots. When someone yells something or interrupts his speeches, he doesn't miss a beat and doesn't criticize them. I have never seen anything but class from our President, despite the fact that he's received the most horrible crap thrown his way. Like his politics or not, he's honest with you and tells you what he believes, whether you agree or not. He doesn't govern by polls like the previous President. You have to respect that. Of course, I doubt you will based on your prior childish comments. I don't care if you don't call him "your" President because you can't get past politics, stop letting your heart lead your head and learn some respect. If one of the Democrats I disagree with on nearly every issue is elected in November, sure I'll be disappointed and will publicly disagree with many of their decisions and views, but they will still get the respect of being referred to by the title they earned through votes and their work. Hey, if you are so much more superior and can do a better job, you can run for the office. You'll get my respect even if I believe you're wrong and horrible for the job. Also, I can't stand the idiots who say "OOOOOOO" during the National Anthem and the people who keep their hats on. Don't agree with everything your nation is doing? Neither do I, but grow up and have some respect for the nation that has been earned by the lives of brave men and women for over 200 years and has let you live in more freedom, safety and prosperity than any other nation in the world. As a Dem, I don't even think the guy deserves to be booed. If I have such a problem with him I just wouldn't say anything.

I didn't have time to read all 100 posts in this thread, but I did read the last two pages. I'm upset about having an inept president, but I'm also upset about his being booed. It's no secret he has a low approval rating. He knows it, every citizen in the US knows it. But this is the commander-in-chief of our country throwing out the first pitch on opening day in a brand new ball park in our nation's capital. I think whoever made the point about the "mob mentality" is correct. A few started, everyone else chimes in. Booing this man at this event shows people's general lack of perspective. In my opinion the opening day first pitch is about the Presidency as a whole and tradition in our great nation. It's not about the fans' individual political alignment on that particular day. I was embarrassed to hear our President booed, even if our President is a man who's politics I drastically disagree with at this point. |

Sad, we sould not be booing the leader of our country no matter how poor his term in office was or what mistakes he has made. Although I have no problem with anyone booing Bush, I disagree, and this is the distinction I draw between the person and the office. For me, anyone elected to the office gets the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I may have very little faith of that person's ability to deliver, but if they do I'll give them credit. Re: GW Bush booed at Nationals' opener
I'm gonna keep this one simple. I see the points both sides make, and while I don't approve of some people booing the President at a baseball game, people do have their freedom and some decide to use it however they see fit. I don't agree with the decisions he has made and I damn sure won't be complaining when he leaves office in fall, but I think it's disrespectful to boo a man who is doing something that is in no way connected with his political agenda.
I mean if he was making a political speech in your hometown and a few people who didn't like him decided to show up and boo him after he tries to talk about a bad decision he made than w/e, that is the right forum to do it at. I don't think much of booers at all, whether at a football game or anywhere else. If you don't like a person simply don't say anything at all. I'm sure if Bush had been introduced and all you heard was crickets and a few smatterings of applause that would've said more (and you would've shown yourself to be classier) than a bunch of people booing him. I understand though there will always be people in this country that don't care and that's why I wasn't suprised by it. And for the GTripp/Matty argument, I think there is a difference between the decisions a man makes and what he really is like, especially when you are the President of one of the biggest and most powerful nations in the world. I'm not gonna say that none of his decisions were based solely on what he thought, because I'm sure some were, but he has all those advisors and people that try to influence his decisions, but contrary to popular belief running the country isn't a one man show. One man may hold most of the power, but some of his actions are probably influenced by others. And no, I'm not saying the balance of his actions influenced by himself/others is like 20/80, because judging on what he's done it definitely doesn't look like it, but it's probably somewhere along the lines of 60/40 or 65/35. I don't think there will ever be a definitive number though simply because nobody except himself could truly reveal that. Either way, what I've said has swayed from the topic at hand, so to sum it up, I agree with everyone else that thinks its' disrespectful. |

You can get married, if you cheat, she has the "right" to leave you and empty your bank account. You can say whatever you want, but there are consequences for your speech. Everyone else has the equal freedom of speech and RIGHT to not only disagree or condemn you if you say something wrong, stupid or in this case disrespectful, but speaking without responsibility can also get you beaten or jailed. If you say something to law enforcement, on an airplane, during a speech or in an environment where it is either inappropriate or illegal...you get consequences. Making threats against public officials (not saying you did...reminding you) can land you in jail and you'd deserve it. Sure you can "say whatever you want" but accept the consequences. Freedom of speech is not an anarchist right, there are laws and responsibilities and also issues of respect that should be adhered to. "I can say what I want" shows a lot of immaturity and a lack of understanding what having a right actually means. The Founders knew what they were doing when they set our laws and rights in place, they were very focused on the future of the nation as much as the establishment. Their principles of responsibilities accompanying freedoms still holds true, although the selfish society of today doesn't grasp the concept of maintaining freedom (fight for it) and even what to do with it while they have it. Courtesy, respect for authority and the nation have all gone away. You see it everywhere from that Nationals game to this morning when some blonde in a Toyota who was doing her hair in the rear-view mirror while driving cut me off without a turn signal because she was in a turning lane and wanted to go straight. Tearing down the position and Office of the Presidency by not showing proper respect because you don't personally like the man holding it not only looks bad to other nations, it looks bad to most people around you. You said "Bottom line is this: if you decide to throw out the first pitch in a liberal city with a 30 percent approval rating you get what's coming to you." There were FAR MORE cheers then boos, so obviously even most liberals have more class than you and your ilk of vocal jerks. In short, you can act like a jerk, but expect a verbal and sometimes a physical beating. By the way, the Democrat-led Congress has had as low as a 10 percent approval rating, so apparently if you believe those media polls, he's doing a far better job than anyone else in Washington. |
Re: GW Bush booed at Nationals' opener
Once again, only about half the people in the ballpark were actually booing him. In fact, the amount of people cheering for him vs. the amount of people booing was probably very respresentative of the amount of people that voted for him vs those that did not.
So half of America is a bunch of sore losers? Yeah, I can buy that. :D |
I skipped through most of this, but....I totally agree about "OOOOO" during the National Anthem. It's unbelievably stupid and annoying, imo.
Sorry for the length, but it's something I believe in without backing down. I guess the "OOOOOOOOOO" just stood out to you and made you wonder what I was talking about. :) |

Yeah, I can buy that. :D
Hell, maybe they weren't booing the president, maybe they were booing the idiots that voted for him a second time. |
With rights come responsibilities.
You can carry a gun, you can't shoot it at people at random. Because he didn't, so before you go on a rant you should get your facts straight. |
