Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Pens are dominating?? They let the Senators back into the 2nd game in the 3rd period and give them a tough time. Domination is an overstatement.

Let's see, after 2 game: TOTAL GOALS Pens - 9 Senators - 3 TOTAL SHOTS ON GOAL Pens - 89 Senators - 56 So, yes that is total domination. If you want to see what it is like to totally dominate a game, don't be afraid to tune in Monday night @ 7 as the PENS skate on to win game 3... |

Those numbers you cited include game one, and while shots alone are a cute little stat they do not determine the outcome of the game. The Pens let the Senators back into the game, period. Malone scored Pittsburgh’s third power-play goal with only 1:02 remaining and the Penguins squandered a three-goal lead... I am not saying the Pens will lose the series. But don't sit here and say game 2 was easy for the Pens. It was not. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Yeah I was watching Game 2 from early in the second quarter and they did not dominate. Ottawa didn't score 3 goals on accident, the Pens let them back into the game. Yes the Pens stepped up when it mattered and scored to put them ahead for good but Ottawa had started to regain a little momentum. Domination is when you have the game in hand for the entire 60 minutes and that was definitely not the case in game 2.

i'd say, the refs stepped up when it mattered. heck the refs put the sens in the box for 16 min. while only putting the pens in the box for 8 min. 3 of the pens 5 goals were powerplay goals and 1 was a empty net goal. the pens did not dominate the game at all, the refs did. |

Well, in all fairness, the refs don't dominate anything. If teams dont commit penalties, the refs wont put them in the box. Its not the refs job not to hook, or slash or anything. If the Senators dont make penalties, they dont let the Penguins score power play goals. I mean look at the Capitals go ahead goal on Friday, they were essencially on the power play since one of the Flyers was just laying on the ice for 10 seconds. I mean I'm rooting hard for both Pittsburgh and Washington in the series, but you can't put anything on the refs. Pittsburgh outplayed Ottawa, straight simple. |

your crazy, refs can and do dominate games all the time. furtermore a refs domination can affect the outcome of a game. penalties happen all the time, it's when and where the refs choose to call them. |

Yeah, I'm crazy. Did you watch the Ottawa Pittsburgh Friday night? Pittsburgh did dominate that game. They got lazy in the second and allowed Ottawa to sneak back into the game, and then regrouped and scored two goals. It dosent matter if its on a power play, or not. Thats part of hockey, if you commit a penalty, thats your own fault. Where did the refs call a penalty that shouldnt have been called against Ottawa? Where did they miss a call against Pittsburgh? I mean hell, Ottawa was 0 for like 6 or 7 on Wensday, they didnt cash in. Pittsburgh is cashing in on their power play chances. Thats really the difference in the series right now. Maybe I'm just mis interpreting what you're saying, but there is no way the refs are who are responsible for Ottawa being in a 2-0 hole right now. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Tough loss for the Capitals today. Flyers got what they wanted, a split heading home. Capitals have been riding a hot streak for a while now (all luck of course), now let's see how they respond on Tuesday.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Yeah the Caps definitely have some work to do, they got outplayed the entire game pretty much. Philly seems to have their number right now and Boudreau is gonna have to find some ways to change what he's doing because what we're doing right now isn't working.

Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Big Flyers fan here, I am going to tuesdays game; the series has produced 2 great games, even matchup, but I still like the Flyers. I think both teams are gonna be great for a while, so young.

Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
2-0 win. :)
I can't believe the Flyers dropped the first game after leading 4-2, but Ovechkin made an amazing play. 2 games, 1 goal by Ovechkin...advantage Flyers. :) |

Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Ahem, this isn't a Pens vs Senators Playoff Thread
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Yeah if you want one go make one. I couldn't give less of a shit about the Pens vs. Sens, everybody was hoping for that matchup but as has been said before we can't all get in position to lose the final game to secure that matchup anyways. If Ottawa had gone up against any team in the Eastern Conference they most likely would've been eliminated in 4 or 5 games.

Sure sure...of course you'll say that. The Flyers took a game at Verizon and are coming home with an even series. You know fans in Philly are loud and trashy too. :angry-smi (glad I'm from Maryland after saying that) Ovechkin has been held in check so far. Advantage: Flyers. :) |

And for all you Philly fans that like the fact that they split the two games in Washington, remember this. In the regular series Washington lost both games at home but won both games at Philly's place. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Caps down 4-2 right now. They're struggling...or maybe they've just hit their wall now.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
I'm going to go with the latter. Watching this has been as painful as anything I can remember. I want to have faith that the Caps can turn this series around, but knowing that they've been had for like 8 out of 9 quarters is somehow not making things look bright. I can only wish that it won't be like this if we manage to make the playoffs next season. And at what point do we have to start thinking about putting Olie in for Huet? I used to have tremendous faith in him and his 1.64 (or something around that number) GAA in the regular season since coming to Washington, but this is the second time in 3 games that he's allowed 4 or more goals. My hat is off to the Flyers, they certainly have the Caps' number right now.
And their defense has been tremendous, I haven't seen anything out of our first line this entire series save for Mike Green. Not to mention they get their offense in gear so quickly it's ridiculous. Watching this series has made me hate the Flyers almost as much as any team in the NFC East. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Their D was absolutely amazing tonight. The last two games they've gotten a lead and just buckled down. That's why our 3rd period shots on goal have been so sparse. And on offense they've done a great job of screening Huet. Ugh.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
This is a TUFF loss for the team. This Caps team has to play together and attack and create chaos in front of biron and fire the puck on him, stop passing and start shooting (Which I did see more of tonight, NOT ENOUGH)! But its no where near over, this game 4 Thursday they have to come out and play their butt off and leave that hole knotted up at 2 a piece , NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!
This team has found a way to fight there way out of a hole the last month plus, I don't think they are anywhere near out of gas. I see them leaving philly knotted up at 2! GO CAPS! |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
I hope to see them leaving Philly tied up, but if they lose on Thursday I'm pretty much gonna start rooting for next season, except for the tiny little shred of hope that they could pull off the somewhat impossible and win two straight to tie the series at 3 lol. Either way they have a lot of work to do, they need to practice their screening on offense and start trying to think up more ways to confuse Biron, because that's probably our best shot.
One more thing, if Huet allows 4 goals in game 4 I'm gonna start seriously pondering if they should switch to Olie. If he allows 4 goals in one quarter, which, given the fact they scored 3 in one quarter tonight, is possible, then I would definitely be on the pull Huet bandwagon. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
I wouldn't be surprised to see Olie between the pipes in Game 4. It seems that the team has gone a bit flat, and a change like that could be what the doctor ordered to get the team motivated again.
Can't say the Caps aren't laying the wood on the Flyers. There have been some great hits over the course of 3 games. But now it's time to buckle down and get the Ws. |

No idea what that picture was Buster lol, it hasn't worked since you posted it. Anyways, big game 4 tonight, if the Caps want to stay in it they need to win it. I hope to see Boudreau has made some changes to the lineup.

He's already moved Federov up to the First Line with Ovie and Kozlov. But he's sticking with Huet. So we shall see. Hopefully Federov can help Ovie, Kozlov and Mike Green get some scoring opportunities. |

Had a couple tough games.....keep riding Huet. I think he will have a strong game tonight. And we will come home 2 games a piece! I'll be there for game 5 Saturday afternoon...... ROCKIN THE RED! And those are good moves, I really like moving Federov up because Backstrom has struggled in the playoffs so far (no biggie, it's his rookie season) and Federov probably has the most playoff experience of anyone on the Caps roster. And I'm hoping he gives the fourth line more ice time, I have to say they've probably been one of the best lines in the playoffs so far. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Whew. It's the end of the first overtime in Philly. I have to say I've been impressed with the Caps resilience this game. I gotta admit when Carter scored less than a minute in the game, my first thought was, oh god more of the same. But this entire team has bounced back and it really looks like the changes Boudreau implemented are really working. I've been pretty impressed by switching Federov to the first line and putting Backstrom on the second. It's not only taken some pressure off Backstrom but it's made both lines better. The third and fourth lines are still doing okay, and I'm glad Eminger was actived for this game because that goal he scored was huuuge for us. Huet was extremely impressive in the first overtime and in the third period. I hope he can continue this for us because if they score we're gonna be in a big hole. I've gotten my confidence back for this team.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Well, that's the end of that one. As they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I guess we'll see if the Caps have what it takes to win the next two, although the odds are against them. It's hard to watch your team fight it out for 80+ minutes only to come away like that.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
3-1 is just about impossible to overcome, unless you are the Boston Red Sox...but we'll see what happens tomorrow afternoon at the phone booth.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
Well, regardless the Capitals and their fans should be proud of the way the franchise turned things around after Thanksgiving and stepped it up when needed down the stretch. And they should be happy with the promising future of this team. Was there a little luck involved along the way? Sure, but anyone who thinks all the Capitals were is lucky is simply being ignorant.
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
One more win. :)
|
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
So, will they be putting Kolzig back in?
Allowing 4, 2, 6 and 4 goals isn't that impressive by Huet. |
Re: Official Capitals vs Flyers Playoff Thread
I doubt it. Huet, while giving up the goals he has, has been playing decent hockey. But stranger things have happened...
I didn't realize that 20 years ago, the Caps were down 3-1 to the Flyers and came back to win the series... |
