Re: Upcoming Cuts

I am all for anything to get Doughty out of SS. If that means signing Ricky Manning Jr and moving spings to saftey im all for it

Second. The Bears let Ricky Manning go today, he would be worth a look for a nickel/dime position in my opinion.
i see you and i think alike on this....i think this would be a great move for us to make.

Re: Upcoming Cuts
My "desire" for Manning would be more due to Springs getting the majority of his playing time this year at safety, not as a replacement for Torrence necessarily.
Understood. My eyes tell me that Torrence would be better in that role, but the full disclosure is that I may be giving Torrence the benefit of the doubt that he doesn't yet deserve.

Still, if it came to an injury in the secondary, I would much rather see Doughty out there again (assuming of course that he were to get benched due to poor play in order to make Springs switch positions) then have Ricky Manning start at CB for us.

Of course, I'm not arguing against added flexibility here, if that is the ultimate goal.

Im not suggesting manning be named a starter or he be ahead of torrence on the depth chart...i think the flexiblity he could provide would be useful considering the possiblity of springs playing some safety seems very likely.

Re: Upcoming Cuts

I was listening to Vinny Cerato and he said that the Redskins will probably only keep five LB's. He also made it sound like they would not keep four running backs. That means to me, that if they keep Mason they cut Cartright. I doubt it, but Mason is a better back.

Re: Upcoming Cuts

Wow - that surprises me I thought that Mason would make the team for sure with how well he has played in the preseason.

Re: Upcoming Cuts

It's a numbers game, keeping 4 RBs is tough.

Re: Upcoming Cuts

I'd try to trade Ladell for something of value (draft picks) to a team that needs a running back and keep Mason.

Re: Upcoming Cuts

Does anyone remember Robert Green, the former William and Mary longshot running back who made the team back in the early 90's? Mason kinda reminds me of him.

True, but it looks like there is no real true backup FB, so the TE/FB total =4. Don't know if that helps Mason in the end, but it might.

I hope Wilson & Jackson can stay in some capacity, practice squad will have to do for one of them at least.
Yeah, they cut Burl Toler, Babatunde Oshinowo, Dorian Smith, Vernon Fox, and Matt Sinclair. Also what might be messing you up is today we released Jason Goode, and resigned Danny Verdun-Wheeler. We should be at 75 players by my count. Maybe they didn't update the roster yet.
Even with those names gone there are still 76.

Washington Redskins

Copy and paste the roster in Excel (easier to count)

Do you think that our staff might have made a mistake and not released enough guys?

It's 75, Goode is still listed there.

Vinny Cerato said yesturday, that they would not trade Betts.

In order for us to trade Betts you have to have a willing partner. Who is going to give us a 2nd round draft pick for Betts? RB is the easiest position in the NFL to fill. Not gonna happen.

Agreed. Most NFL teams are doing the two-RB system, and I think we need to have that in our team. I just don't see Cartwright being that 2nd RB in our team.

That doesn't make any sense,
LB has got the weakest depth, unless hes planning to pick up a vet who's cut later

and Mason is arguably the most impressive bubble player this preseason, you've got to find a way to keep him

Well,Vinny is the general manager. The reason they will only keep five is, because they have no talent beyond Carey and Blades(both of them play all positions). Most likely they would not have more than five linebackers active for a game anyway. It will allow them to keep some of the talented D-Lineman they have. Vinny said they will keep a few LB's on the practice squad, after cuts they will try to sweep a couple up.

Hey, we all love Mason, but will he have an impact on the team if they keep him? Probably not. Some how over the last few years running backs have become a dime a dozen, so I gues that makes it tuff to keep him. For a minute, I thought that they might cut Rock, but I changed my mind after I saw them present him with special teams player of the year. I hope they find a way to keep Mason, but listening to Vinny made me think they are not going to keep four tail backs.

Re: Upcoming Cuts

any other year, i say Mason makes the team. but, fellow warpathers, we don't need another running back. and even if Mason is better then Cartright, he doesn't play special teams. and how many carries did Cartright get last season? lets leave that position alone. and worry about our line-backing depth

I'm interested in our Draftees. The only one I see gone is Tryon. Kelly to either IR or PUP. That is a good Draft!

Mods if you wish this in it's own thread, feel free!

D. Thomas
F. Davis
M. Kelly
C. Rinehart
J. Tryon
D. Brooks
K. Moore
C. Brennan
