I think if there are two teams whose QBs make them or break them, those two teams are the Pats and the Colts. Look at Manning and his first game of the season, he was rusty from being out in the preseason and lost to a Bears team out on a mission. The Pats were playing an inferior team in the Chiefs, but they did not have their typical success in points. I think they may be able to pull a winning record, but not the playoffs. You guys don't think that with Brady out, other AFC teams are not going to play with added motivation againts the Pats? If the Pats win 10 games without Brady, then Bill Belichick is a genius and Brady is just a good (not great) QB.

It might not, but after how the Colts looked last night and Brady's injury, there' not likely to be any 14-2 or 15-1 teams this year. The only AFC squad that looked like "world beaters" was the Steelers.

Even thought I am a huge Redskins fan, I'm a fan of Tom Brady and his accomplishments. I hope he can recover from this and get back to business.

you know i hate to wish the injury on the guy...and i dont he has had a phenom of a career...but part of me is relieved that we dont have to listen to tom brady news every five minutes on the nfl network.

I was just talking to my brother about this, (he's a pats fan) he wanted to make a bet with me about the Skins / Pats record. The better the record will determine the winner. I told him his division sucks, so he can have a good 10 wins, but the Skins have the toughest division bar none, so getting 9 wins for us would be a feat.
The Pats still have good talent, and I still see them in the playoffs, but they won't go far.

I wish Brady well on his LONG road to recovery.
On my second knee injury, I tore my (R) ACL and bucket handle tears on my meniscus. It is a slow and painful rehab. Six to eight weeks of NO weight bearing on the leg after surgery, because of the meniscus repair. That really slows down recovery and causes alot more muscle atrophy than just a plain ACL recontruction surgery. It is a long and painful road back for Brady.

I'm glad Belichick said that comparing this situation with 2001 when Brady replaced Bledsoe, is like comparing apples and oranges. Pats fans are trying to talk themselves into Matt Cassel and saying that they will be ok. I think that's crazy, given that Brady is a top 5 all-time QB, and Bledsoe was average at best.

Just wanted to comment on the Brady / Bledsoe comments:

Brady is not a top 5 yet, but very easily could be when all is said and done.

I think we all forget how good Bledsoe was. He is 7th all time in passing yards for pete's sake. 13th in passing TDs. That quite possibly could make him a hall of famer. If he doesn't make the hall, it will still be a good discussion / debate. Let's not forget that the Pats were the doormat of the league until Bledsoe showed up. In the 4 seasons before bledsoe, they were 14-50. In his first 6 seasons, the Patriots made the playoffs 4 times, including a super bowl appearance...and that had NEVER been done in New England. (the 4 playoff appearances in 6 years that is)
So saying he was average at best is way off base.

Ok maybe Brady is not top 5 all-time, but he has easily been the most dominant player in the past 7 years in one of the toughest conference. Brady made the playoffs with subpar WRs two years ago, and he's been the reason for the success of the Patriots. To think that the Patriots are going to be fine without him is a bit ridiculous. Maybe I underrated Bledsoe, probably b/c of his performance late in his career, but I just don't think it is fair to compare this situation with what happened in 2001.

But here's the thing. Matt Cassel isn't Tom Brady...but then again neither was Tom Brady back in 2001. I think it's interesting that both Simms and Rattay were flown in for workouts only to be told thanks, but no thanks.

I know this is splitting hairs, and for the sake of argument, I'll say it. Peyton Manning has been more dominant over the past 7 years, Brady has had the better TEAM.

Manning:
29339 yards, 234 total tds, turnovers- 95 int + 37 fumbles = 132 total turnovers, 99.44 rating over the 7 years. 79-33

Brady:
26364 yards, 202 total tds, turnovers- 86 int + 53 fumbles = 139 total turnovers, 92.59 rating over the 7 years. 86-24.

So Manning beats him in every catagory, yet Manning's record over the past 7 years is 79-33, while Brady's is 86-24. Clearly the Patriots team has been better over the years.

I do think you're right about not comparing this to when Brady came in for Bledsoe, however, the Patriots TEAM will be fine. They won't be a super bowl contender, but they will be a playoff team and that speaks to the talent they have aquired, and (gag) the coaching.
I thought the pats were going to win 12 games this year, and after Brady was lost for the season, I think they will win 10 games. If Manning was lost in Indy, I'd expect a 8 win season or so.

My high school actually used uniforms and helmets IDENTICAL to that. We were called the Colonials though.

They looked great.

Does your high school still use this logo? I ask b/c a high school in the DC area was asked to not use the same Patriots logo by the NFL.

They do. I did see them last year or the year before with red helmets and that logo. Don't know if they are back to silver or not.

Notice the other team in that photo...old Chargers jerseys (they're the Thunderbolts). :D

We also have another local team that has the exact same uniforms, helmets, everything as the Carolina Panthers except the blue is replaced with orange.

Another team that looks JUST like the Eagles older bright green uniforms except they're red and silver.

There's a team that looks like the Michigan Wolverines but are black and orange.

I think a LOT of high schools teams mimic pro and college uniforms...at least until they're harassed by the NFL like this website was.

Cassel has not started in the NFL.

He did not start a single game at USC and only attempted 33 passes. Zero touchdowns. He backed up both Leinart and Carson Palmer.

He's been a benchwarmer since high school. :D

They drafted him in the 7th round to hold a clipboard.

I think it's a good thing that Tom Brady doesn't have a big ego like T.O. and that he's somewhat of a nice guy. I say this b/c the entire New England fan base is basically saying that Brady is a system QB and you can just plug in Matt Cassel and things will be fine (as in we'll-be-10-6-and-make-the-playoffs fine). Now, I'm not saying that everything should be gloom and doom with them, but these fans are acting like it's not a big deal.

Tom has a big ego he just does not show it in the ways TO does. It seems that QB's have their way of having egos and WR's have a different way.

well i guess it takes 3 quarters of bad play for pats fans to turn their back on the team and head home to watch the sox. sorry to bump an old thread but what i saw in the 3rd quarter of the pats game as the fans were piling out was an expected sad sight. i can't help but think of the rams, when they were the greatest show on turf everyone was a rams fan, now they suck and play to a half empty house. no loyalty or support, just bandwagon fans.

thats what makes the old school teams like ours so special. the tradition and fan support is always there no matter the record or score.
