Shit.

How the hell is any defense supposed to stop a tandem of T.O. and Roy Williams when you've got guys like Crayton, Austin and Witten still around?

We can mock it all we want, but I don't see how you can deny that this creates serious matchup problems for ANY defense.

Fortunately Romo and Felix Jones are out on the offensive side for a while, and hopefully Pacman has seen his last snap as a professional.
I really don't know why these guys are mentioned in the same breath as TO and Witten. Sure they catch a ball here and there, but Redskins and Cowboys fans alike are always, "But Crayton is still there!!"

It's all good, neither of them are that great or even good of a receiver. Chilllllllllllllllllllllllll. :D

Now i know I hate Detroit. I hope TO is happy. The Lions just through in the towel for this season.

I think the move for Williams makes Dallas a better team, especially in the long run. We will have to see how they distribute the ball in that offense in the coming weeks.
This sucks. I don't understand how they have the cap space. Also how will they afford him next year? Can T.O. survive with another big time reciever? We will find out in due time. I think dallas is desperate right now and they sense their season going down the crapper. I bet Jerry Jones can't stand that we are better than them.
That's just it! I don't think they will be able to afford him next year under their cap. So if they choose to keep him around next season......that means someones about to take a pay cut! LOL

While listening to Chris Mortenson, he pretty much agree's the toll was HEAVY with the 1,3,6 +20m in guaranteed $$.
He did point out that the boys will be packing it in with TO in the next couple of years as he is not a kid (in reciever and dog years), and will have outlived his usefullness. This deal gives them an heir apparent.
AND, in the interim, it should provide some serious entertainment with TO, as it looks like...sadly.....snif.....snif........Adam may not have much entertainment value left

Well there is still only one football and it rarely works having 2 #1 WR. They are going to still be the same team, light up the weaker teams and struggle against the better teams. They have no leadership and no heart. R. Williams isn't going to help in either area.

Re: Breaking News Roy Williams Traded to Dallas

They can load up on offense all they want, but that secondary is still a big problem. JJ is selling out to win now, but I just don't see how another WR puts them over the top.

Right. It wasn't like their offense was exactly stalling. If you can sustain long drives and keep their defense on the field, that's how you beat the Cowboys.

Re: Breaking News Roy Williams Traded to Dallas

Dallas is in trouble on the field now too. Romo is out a month.
Brad Johnson should fumble less though! Their secondary is
decimated, Williams is out a month, Newman is out, Felix Jones is out, Pacman should be
considered done for good. Even their punter has a broken foot from
being blocked in OT last week to lose the game to the Cardinals. They
just traded a 1st-round , 3rd- and 6th- draft picks for a WR who is
pretty much a 1st-round bust himself...and gave him $20 million a year
guaranteed! Roy Williams is the highest-paid WR in football now, he
makes $5 million more per year than Randy Moss, $7 million more than
Burress...why? They're already comfortable at WR with Owens
(although he's playing poorly now), Crayton, Austin...plus you can
consider Witten a WR pretty much. They need help on defense now.
You can also bet that Owens will be upset any time this new
high-profile WR takes catches away from him.

I guess since they have no D, they're going to try to outscore everyone. That works for BYU or Hawaii (with Colt Brennan), but not in the NFL.

Bad move in my opinion, but then again, so was Wade Phillips and half
of their roster it looks like.

If I were a Dallas fan, I'd be sick of Jerry Jones too. They have
not won a playoff game in 13 years despite solid regular seasons. It
has to be tough being a fan of that team. Even when Dan Snyder first
took over and we had Heath Shuler (bust) at QB and Steve Spurrier
failing miserably as a coach, we didn't have the off-field problems
and lack of morals in the locker room. Losing was bad, but we didn't
feel like we lost our franchise. Snyder re-hired Gibbs, learned a
LOT about football and the boundaries an owner needs to have and he's
now one of the more successful owners in the league. Jerry Jones
still shows up on the sidelines (a la Al Davis) to call plays and
meddle with the team. No team can win with an owner like that.

Re: Breaking News Roy Williams Traded to Dallas

The Cowboys are 4-2, and just added another offensive threat to a very potent offense. Between TO, Williams, Witten, Crayton and Austin, you can now have 5 guys on the field at the same time that will beat you. This is only going to open things up for TO by adding Williams to the lineup. Of course he's ecstatic...teams will not be able to double team TO as effectively because you'll be leaving a legit #1/#2 receiver one on one. While Crayton is a good receiver, he's not Roy Williams. This is only going to create huge mis-matches down the line.

However, if I'm TO, I'm looking at the writing on the wall...here's a guy who's a legit #1 that could possibly overtake him if TO gets way too big for his britches. This is essentially Jerry Jones' insurance policy if TO turns like he did in San Fran and Philly. And while Roy Williams may not be a Larry Fitzgerald or a Santana Moss, he's still good for 61/912/7 year to year (4 year average with Detroit as their #1 with Joey Harrington, Jeff Garcia and Jon Kitna throwing to him).

Value wise, their defense may be strugging, but they are still good enough to keep them in games. Essentially they decided that bolstering their offense and gunslinging with teams was a better fit. We'll see how much value it is at the end of the year...

OR, to steal it from Doc.
No killer DB's available. Add Roy, and now when Springs is giving TO a little........chin music at the line, Roy is where?

Just to continue the theme of Cowboys bashing here. I found this on another board.

On a side note; listening to the herd this morning Colin asked "How do you buy gold?" an e-mail came in "Colin, first you go buy 3 tons of horse crap. Then you go and buy some gold, liquify it and pour it evenly over the horse crap so that it's nice 'n shiny, stank and soft in the middle. Then name it the Dallas Cowboys."

NEWSFLASH!.... Terrell Owens has talked Jerry Jones into playing newly acquired receiver Roy Williams at cornerback until Pacman comes back!

Re: Breaking News Roy Williams Traded to Dallas
Well I was concerned about TO's reaction as well. But from all reports, the GM mentioned the trade to Owens as is was being done and Owens was (quote) "ECSTATIC".

Then when the deal was finalized, reporters spoke with Roy Williams and he said the first call he got was from TO. So we will see I guess.

But as far as the deal goes it was not really all that bad. Yeah 3 draft picks sounds like a lot. But believe it or not yesterday morning when the Cowboys were getting their breakfast, they had 10 total draft picks for the 2009 draft.

After the trade was done at the end of the day, Dallas had nine draft picks for the 2009 draft. They only gave up one draft pick.

Because of Pacman's suspension, the Cowboys received the Titans 5th round pick. That was s stipulation of the trade.

Dallas already had two-3rd round picks (Cleveland) and two-6th round picks (Miami, Jason Fergeson trade).

So Dallas sends their first, third and 6th rounder for Williams. Chances are the 3rd and 6th round picks from Cleveland and Miami are going to be higher anyway.

And Dallas got a 7th rounder from Detroit.
The whole TO being good-natured and "ecstatic" about the trade thing? I'll believe it when I see it long term.

I realize that the Cowboys had draft picks to burn. But they likely could have gotten R. Williams cheaper in the off-season, especially since Millen is gone from the Lions front office. Then the rest of their draft picks would go farther.

As well, I grant that R. Williams will add nice marginal upside to the Cowboys offense immediately. I don't grant that this margin will be #1, #3, and #6 draft picks good. It will be hard to get Williams enough balls to both warrant the price and still be left with enough snaps to have a viable running game.

Also, Williams is a bit of a gamble. Will he really be a re-energized Pro Bowler, or will he be the childish loafing whiner he's been the last couple of seasons?

The longer I think about this, this smacks of the Joey Galloway trade.

Re: Breaking News Roy Williams Traded to Dallas

Lets see...first game together with T.O....Williams 0 catches...T.O. 2 catches 31 yards. A number 1 a 3 and a 6..... Yeah, that sounds like a great deal.

I was at a dinner meeting last thursday night and sitting across from a dallas fan. I asked him what he thought about Dallas giving up all those picks and that big contract to Roy Williams and got a reply like this."I don't know what's going on . I don't know why they let him go and now we give up 3 picks and that big contract we should have just kept him on the team. I just looked at him and said "you do realize that you now have two Roy Williams on your team". He gave me this dumb look and I went on to explain to him what happened with his team as others around the table just kind of laughed.

Re: Breaking News Roy Williams Traded to Dallas

One good thing is that it takes away draft choices from the Cowboys. Maybe with the players they have they can take a year off from drafting and let their present players mature some more. I hate Dallas, the Giants, and the Eagles in that order. But I'm glad to hear people saying the NFC East is the best in pro football, and they include the Redskins in that assessment. Maybe Sunday against Detroit we can solidify that assessment.
