Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Great move all around. If he plays well and we sign him long term we are going to have a great secondary. I think we may drop Torrence as he seems to be the odd man out and Tyron is a rookie with potential.
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
i also agree with Smoot about this being my favorite signing.
^ cramming duffle bags?
gay.
The fact that he was cramming, or the fact that it involved duffle bags? I welcome the addition. I'm eager to see how he can contribute. I imagine he'll get anointed quickly, appropriately and immediately in the best rivalry in the NFL on Sunday Night Football. I hope he doesn't disappoint. Get ARE the hell out of there returning punts too...Hall splits duties with Moss would be an interesting tandum to try (providing Moss' hamstring is healthy). |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I'll take the wait & see approach with this one it can be a great move or very low risk. His play in Oakland isn't his fault IMO. Kiffin wanted to fire Ryan last year his scheme didn't match his personnel he wasn't adjusting to his players skills. Hell Al Davis is the man in Oakland and Ryan did what Davis said to do so his play is Oakland is no big deal.

This is great..now we should cut Justin Tryon

No, we should cut Leigh Torrence I believe Tryon has a bright future he is only a rookie. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I've been for this from the start :)
Actually, I have talked myself into thinking this is a good idea. |

we need springs at corner.. the guy is still our best corner even the way Rogers is playing .... rogers will never be the corner we need unless he can change games for us... and 99% of the time, he doesnt... last year against the saints or rams i 4get... he returned one for a td but i know everyone remembers '05 -- angainst Seattle in the playoffs.... drop'd a pick 6... and against the steelers -- dropp'd a pick 6... he will get better. but a healthy Springs > Rogers IMO. .... both and Hall > Smoot.
It was the Lions |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
this could be very interesting. I know Blache is dreaming new schemes right now
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I'm not jumping on the move Springs to safety boat. He's slowly turning into the Shaquille O'Neal of football. Miss about a quarter of the season, show up for the playoffs. Its just nice to field healthy CB's. Everybody seems to be a gameday decision.

oh my.....tryon will be lucky to land on the practice squad. Torrence is fine for his position....#4 corner...in fact for that, he is far above average to good....now he is a 5....probably the best #5 in the NFL. Tryon should never get on the field this year...being young, doesn't make you good. Based on Tryon's performance in preseason, the only reason they kept him is because of age. He needs to go....groom his skills on the practice field and fight for #4 or 5 next year. Stop dogging Torrence folks...he aint great....but c'mon...hes a #4....name a better one in the last few years for us.....jimoh? HA! |

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
One other thing...
I wonder how Springs is taking this. He is due big money next year and the talk the last 2 years is that we've been trying to cut him for someone else. That dude must have a really thick skin by now. He is our best player in the secondary and we bring it a guy that has been sucking that is supposedly a #1 or #2 corner? That is Springs' spot. Now I know what you'll all say.....Springs is always injured and getting older...but I think hes only like 32 or something (someone check) and thats hardly done for a guy that plays rock solid. The only problem is he misses games. Question: If Hall pans out, is there any way the Skins can afford to keep Springs, Smoot, Rodgers and Hall next year, while extending both Hall and Rodgers? That to me, is a killer CB posse'....that group could stay together for 3 years. (I really think Hall is a #3 CB like Smoot) AND....I say no to using Springs as a Safety...he's a corner....a good one...dont screw it up! |

of course, but even as a #4 Torrence has held his own...thats my point. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I am a big Hokie fan and watching this guy through college was incredible. He definetly has talent, he is super fast and I think honestly he wasn't that happy in Oakland. Who would be ??!! So I think its a safe smart move. He is a very talented player and I'm very excited to watch him play

YOU KNOW Hot Plate? |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I just saw a phone interview (I think) on Sportsnite and Carlos Rogers was questioning how they were going to find playing time for everybody. Not a good sign but may be just a knee-jerk reaction.

The original point-forward.......who turned into....or maybe ate Mel Turpin? Yeah, I know Hot Plate. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I know this is an odd question, but if he does not sign with us next year, does that mean we get compensatory picks for him if he signs a huge contract some where else? If so, thats just another great reason we signed him. Even without that, it is a no lose situation only costing us $492000.
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I am wary about this guy...but one thing that makes me think this might work out is that NE wanted him....I am still unsure of our front office, but we all know NE front office is solid...so....this may just work out....I will cross my toes... not my fingers, those are for Erasumus James, not the other fingers, that is for Alexander, not the other toes, that is for Jason Taylor, not every hair left on my head....those are for all of our draft picks...
odds are, someone eventually will pan out, look at horton! |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Let's hope D. Hall doesn't = Pacman or TO.
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
i heard carlos rogers on comcast and he said that he thought that hall was gonna have it rough finding playing time.now i'm sure that coach blanche would not have wanted him to be signed, zorn either if he were just gonna ride the pine.i can see him playing a lot more just for the fact of letting landry blitz more and from different parts of the field.
i also think that redskins have enough leaders to keep hall's ego in check.all he needs is one screw up for fletcher, taylor, portis,or moss to crawl his ass so bad he'll never do it again. |

Excellent question and I think you may be right. If we lose him to free agency to a major contract, I am pretty sure that puts us in line for one of these picks based off of the value of his new contract and playing time....I just dont know if they will knock that down that pick because he is only with us for half a year....I sure hope not...that would be a screaming deal.. |

Question: If Hall pans out, is there any way the Skins can afford to keep Springs, Smoot, Rodgers and Hall next year, while extending both Hall and Rodgers?
Rogers isn't going anywhere. And Springs may not be here next season anyway. I also don't know that Fred Smoot is a shoe-in for the team next year. If Hall pans out, they'll find a way to keep him. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I'm thinking it will be an either or between Hall and Springs based on what happens the rest of this season.
I'm also thinking we'll be better off if we extend Springs than if we extend Hall. But that doesn't necessarily mean we shouldn't extend Hall, if he proves to be more valuable than Springs. Obviously Springs is only valuable when he's on the field. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Tryon has played in dime packages the last two weeks, and he's only been thrown at once, so apparently other O Coordinators don't think he's as useless as Redskins fans do.

I just think if we had all 4 that we'd be able to survive pretty well. The way I see it is we have a #1 (springs), #2 (rodgers could develop into a #1), #3 (smoot), #3 (hall could develop into a #1 talent after 2 years of grooming) So if we could keep Springs for a couple years, either Rodgers or Hall could be a legit #1 by then...Smoot is a valuable nickle back with a great redskins attitude....kinda like the Thrash of the d...we need to keep him just so we can yell....SMOOOOOT! |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
This is all upside, We did'nt pay him anything and don't need him. When he realizes that he will have to work hard and if he does our db depth will be amazing. If it works out we
're littered with early round talent. Could be great. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Just wanted to point out that all of the redskins Cornerbacks were taken in the first round of the draft. Shawn springs 3rd overall carlos 9th fred smoot 14th. and now Hall who was 8th overall. Can most teams say that?

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
im okay with it because he came cheap and it adds depth, the guy has clearly got to turn it around to get another big contract, who would give him the big bucks with these stats?
In his eight games in Oakland, Hall was beaten 40 times for 552 yards on 66 passes thrown his way, according to data compiled by STATS. He gave up more yards than any defender this season and was tied for third worst in catches allowed. well, jerry jones wil probably be waiting with checkbook ready |

Haha regardless thats still pretty ridiculous.

Hey, he almost came at the vet minimum. Thats got to make even the most skeptical people like this deal.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Just saw Hall on Comcast, love him already, says Washington is home. Hey, if he pans out Springs is gone next year.
