I hate the fact that our front office has an aversion to drafting offensive or defensive lineman. Second, I really hate the fact that our front office can watch game in and game out opposing QBs with anywhere betwen6 and 9 seconds of pocket time with no pressure, yet, they feel no need to draft a young pass rushing DE that could hammer down a spot for a decade. Thats what IO hate! Again, this is an aversion, 5 to 7 years int he making.

While we are at it, why not replace Samuels with Rinehart and Carter with Jackson? After all, we know as much about Rinehart and Jackson as we do about Brennan. I realize we are struggling on offense, but to "blow the whole thing up" because of a few losses is crazy.

My support doesn't wain because I've seen enough football to know that there are exactly ZERO quarterbacks that can perform well when any combination of the following are happening every week; shitty pass protection, abandoned running game, dropped passes, poor route running and bad play calling.

Blaming the quarterback is a typical fan response when things are going poorly, but the "give the kid a shot" attitude is precisely why this team, and several others have not had a legitimate franchise quarterback in decades. Drew Brees threw 3 interceptions today and has multiple 3 interception games on the season, and the Saints have a losing record. I wonder if anyone in New Orleans is screaming to give the kid(Joey Harrington) a shot...

Many fans got carried away early on and thought we were going to win 12 this year. Coaches now have tape on Zorn and the fundamental problems on our team have been exposed. Stop Portis and we lose.

sniffle sniffle, now go tell the ravens defense about the redskins good defense and nothing to help them.......the ravens dont cry about it, they show up every week, and they have an aggressive coach. if you sit back and let a team dictate what they want to do to you, it will always come back to haunt you. i think coach blache has done good this year but gregg williams found a way to produce a very aggressive and tough defense in big games. so far i would give the entire coaching staff an F, i say that meaning we are now 3-4 at home and most likely wont make the playoffs......name the last team to take a losing record at home to the playoffs and win.......oh and we arent the giants on the road either so, think past thier performance last year.

Re: What's Wrong with the Redskins?

Whenever a team is 3-4 at home, your chances of getting into the playoffs are not very good, but again we have a favorable schedule. Next week's game at Baltimore, will probably lose, but after that, we play the Bengals, eagles, and 49ers, all winnable games. And let just face it, no one expected us to be 7-5 at this point anyway based on the preseason predictions by experts. I expected the 1st team O-Line to get exposed because they are old, everyone is their 30s, and we do need to do an overhaul on the O-Line during the offseason.

In terms of making the playoffs, Dallas has a brutal schedule, and the NFC south will beat up on each other the rest of the way. Despite all of our issues with the O-Line and our offense, we can still make the playoffs with a 10-6 or 9-7 record, not bad for a 1st year head coach.

I saw a few problems with Campbell today but I saw more problems with our WRs. They need to do a better job at bringing the ball in. Another problem that we have, and that I have been harping over for the past four years is our defensive secondary. Burn me for saying it, but I love DeAngelo Hall. He had mistakes early but he redeemed himself with an INT. Carlos Rogers missed tackles, missed routes, and was completely useless out there. Smoot was nowhere to be found and more than three passes flew past his facemask. He is supposed to me a man coverage specialist and did not deliver. On the Carlos note, if he drops one more INT I will strait up lose it. Springs was decent but he is old enough to be my grandfather and we need to use him to develop a replacement. Soon. Props to the O line, but they need help too. Portis left his heart on the field and no one can say he is "fragile" ever again.

WE can't seem to get both lines playing top quality ball during the same game since the bye. Suisham is a goner after the season is over. A kicker that can't make a FG over 40 yards is useless. Thrash needs to retire or something. Randle El needs to be let go once his contract is up. Our O line is over the hill and is in dire need of a massive overhaul via the draft and free agency. I say get a tall speedy WR from either the Big 12 or SEC next draft to replace Thrash, and don't give me that he is good for special teams crap as Rock has that covered as with Moss and Randle El.

Re: What's Wrong with the Redskins?

The problem is totally with our offensive and defensive lines point blank. Our offensive line does not provide any support for Campbell. The defense of the other team just tees up on us. Without offensive line support the receivers can not make plays because we take it for granted that they are standing at the point where they need to be instead of running to that position. the D line is also one of the worst we have had in years. Eli had all day due to the lack of the blitz. A QB as good as Eli will pick you apart all day. If you can't cover which the Redskins can't then you need to blitz and we do not blitz.

To the poster who said: "bring back Norv". The guy had .45 seasons with three different teams, including seven years with the Redskins. He's driving the Chargers into oblivion. Still in love with his being an OC for the Cowgirls back in the early 1990's?

Zorn will probably be 9-7 or 10-6 at the end of his ROOKIE season. This beats .45 win/loss of Norv (seven seasons), .500 for Schotty (1 season), .45 for the Gator Coach (2 seasons) and .45 for Gibbs II ( 4 seasons).

What's the beef with Zorn? I agree he will probably bring in a new OC for next year if the offense continues to under perform.

If we tank the rest of the way I think we will have our answer about JC's viablilty, but we will be stuck with him for 2 more seasons(2009-2010). The proverbial excuse for him has been coaching/system changes. This won't be an excuse anymore, but you can bet on a major overhaul in the offense in the offseason and if he faltersin '09, they will blame his potential failure on that(new players, chemistry, etc). The 2010 season will be the season where this guy will have nothing to hide behind if he still is an average QB. My question is do we really want to wait til 2010 to play this thing out?

I am absolutely convinced that if we get better pass protection and Zorn "unleashes" Campbell, the guy will be a top 5 QB. Until we get better protection and start going deeper more often, we will continue to struggle on offense, regardless of who is under center. But, if people want to believe that all our woes lie in one man.....more power to them.

As Zorn said when asked about the number of offenses JC has had to learn [over the last 7 years], "get over it". You win games as a QB, score points - with your arm, or you're on another team. At the end of next year JC's contract is up. Either he's the one or he's not.

I hear lots of excuses for JC but hear nothing about his throwing into triple coverage today, underthrowing open WR's today, holding the ball too long instead of throwing it away, today, etc, etc. Winners find a way to win. Without Clinton Portis having an MVP year, this offense wouldn't be scoring even the low amounts it is now. Without this defense holding down the score we'd be a bad team. I hope JC makes it for the long haul but ppl make too many excuses for a QB in his fourth season.

You can't evaluate a QB without looking at the scheme, the receivers, the backs, and the line. Players' careers are made or broken by their surroundings (e.g., compare Randy Moss in 2006 and 2007).

I think Zorn is honest with himself and will give up the OC duties next year. I 'hope' the team will use draft picks and modest FA acquisitions to rebuild the OL. What we're all hoping is that with these changes Campbell hits his max potential and starts scoring some points, keeps turnovers down and wins some games. If not, the team will start someone else to see if they have the juice.

Dude it is sort of an inside joke about bringing in Norv as the OC next year. I was BSing with Goat in another thread about how we could get Norv back once the Chargers can his ass. The whole thing is a joke, but might not be so crazy given the anemic offense we have. I have nothing against Zorny at all, but I think the talent we have with our passing offense(QB and Wrs) was brought in to be more geared towards Gibbs style of passing attack. Zorn either has to clean some house in the offseason or tweak his system and get new linemen of course!!!!!

At the same point in his career last year as JC is this year, Eli Manning won a Super Bowl. Eli is only one year ahead of Campbell, but he is far superior. And as far as the argument that Campbell is in a new system, look at rookie Matt Ryan, who is way ahead of Campbell from a development standpoint in his first year in a new system and new league. Campbell is serviceable, but he does not look like a great QB in the making. He needs to show more leadership on the field.

I agree the OL is old and deteriorating. I agree our WR drop balls. I agree when Portis is having a good game, JC can do well. Jason has had good games and under top conditions will be a good QB.

HOWEVER, why can't he ever connect on the long balls? Why have three sets of OC (including a HOF coach, #1 OC and a top notch QB coach) had such limited scoring since Jason started? Why do we have a MPV RB, Clinton Portis, but we score so few points? There's much blame to go around, but the "everyone but Jason" arguments just don't seem right with me.

As I've said - he's earned the chance to start this entire season. Probably well into next year. But eventually we will have to see if [as happened when Collins won 5 games last year] someone else can do it better with the offensive talent we have; if the offense doesn't score more points.

I don't absolve Jason of all blame. Jason needs to make his reads and get rid of the ball quicker and improve his accuracy on the short to medium throws. But, on the whole, Jason is a good QB and I believe most of our problems on offense lie with the O-line.

Agree 100%. OL is hurting his reads and rushing him. I really question his long-pass ability - far below the NFL average this year and before - when he has time and the WR was open [like today with ARE].

He's definitely good. Question is whether that's good enough for us to be an elite team.

The offense is a work in progress. Until we've got everything down so it's automatic, we're going to struggle against good Ds. Look at the Giants if you want to see how to execute. We do not play at that level. Yet.

JC is part of the problem right now, but I'm still optimistic that he'll be part of the solution as well. He's got the tools and he's got a great QB coach now. Let's see what the final four games bring. In any event, I'd certainly agree with many of you that even if JC is a problem, he's not the biggest worry by a long shot. We don't have an elite O-line, and you need that to go far in this league. Likewise, you need sacks, one way or the other.

For all that, I didn't expect us to win this one, though I thought we'd be more competitive. And it will take a GREAT effort to beat the Ravens right now. But I do think we'll beat Cincy and SF. And the iggles will be a toss up--if we play well, we should win. Not sure if 10 gets us in, but that would still be a very successful season, IMHO. The jury is still out on this one, folks.

Eli does benefit from being in the same offense. As far as weapons, you're right - we have no No. 2 receiver. Randle-El is a No. 3, and our rookies are struggling. Still, Fox showed a stat about JC's QB rating in November for his career. His play falls off quickly oin the second half of the year. Campbell should be getting better, not regressing.

Eli's receivers were making plays for him. Jason was getting his balls dropped. The only thing that pissed me off with him was the clear touchdown he had to Moss if he didn't under-throw the ball. I'm afraid JC is regressing to his mean QB rating of around 70.

He currently has a 2008 QB rating of 87.8, but that is skewed by some really good games early in the year. The last four games is average qb rating is only 69.25.

Ryan on the other hand has a current qb rating of 91.2, not greatly different from JC's.

HOWEVER, the last four games Ryan's average rating is 107, with none lower than 70.

He is improving as the year goes on, but JC is not.

Blame the line, etc. But as Joe Friday said, those are the facts.
I'm afraid JC is regressing to his mean QB rating of around 70.

He currently has a 2008 QB rating of 87.8, but that is skewed by some really good games early in the year. The last four games is average qb rating is only 69.25.

Blame the line, etc. But as Joe Friday said, those are the facts.
You do realize that in the past three games where Jason had a QB rating under 85, he faced the Cowboys' 8th ranked defense, New York's 3rd ranked defense and the Steelers' 1st ranked defense? Meanwhile, Matt Ryan faced juggernaut defenses like New Orleans' 21st ranked defense, Denver's 27th ranked defense and San Diego's 28th ranked defense. Those too, are the facts.

I realize that Jason has his flaws. However, I also realize that Jason is a decent quarterback and it's absolutely unfair to judge a guy based on a 4 game streak. But, as a Redskins fan, I realize it's par for the course to do so with a Washington QB. We've done it since Gus was backing up Shuler and we'll be doing it until we have the next Peyton Manning. Compared to most Redskins fans, Dan Snyder has the patience of Buddha himself.
Eli's receivers were making plays for him. Jason was getting his balls dropped. The only thing that pissed me off with him was the clear touchdown he had to Moss if he didn't under-throw the ball. Jason didn't let us down this game, the play caller did with his hunker-down-don't-lose-the-game-hope-we-win bullshit.
You're blaming Zorn? A rookie coach with a better start than any Redskins HC including Joe Gibbs?

The guy inherited this team. He didn't even get to pick all his coaches. He didn't get to pick all the draft players. I don't agree with all his calls but the mutiple drops, lousy passes, penalties, and poor play against a powerhouse team are not all his fault.

I suppose where the ball is placed for the WR has nothing to do with the drops? Tell me that Zorn told JC to throw a ball into triple coverage? Come on. Zorn has got this team to play above itself.

As others have said, JC QB rating is dropping to his NFL - '75'ish average. I suppose Zorn, Gibbs and Saunders were exclusively responsible for that over the last 4 years.

Placing the blame with JC is just incredibly narrow minded, but yet so typical.
