Re: News from up North
Well like Angry said, I can't see them keeping 4 RB's. If the guy is really, really good on punt returns, and the coaches are comfortable enough with Rock being a back-up to Portis, they could always trade Betts. Personally I like Betts and think he should get alot more playing time, but if they're not going to use him and this guy can return punts better than ARE, ha-ha, and compliment Portis at RB.........
Thats basically what I was thinking. |
Re: News from up North
I see your point, but the size isn't only about height. It's also about the fact that he barely can clear 170 lbs. Sproles is over 180, and Rock over 210
yikes i should have looked up rocks weight. i knew sproles was a lightweight, but i had no idea rock was that heavy... no way this kid makes the team. |
Re: News from up North
Don't be a "Johnny come LATLEY" 44. :) I wish Dorsey all the best. It would be great if he turns out to be a "Sproles like" player, but as SS says, at 170 pounds, how much contact can he take? Anyone remember how much Joe Washington weighed?
maybe he can go on the chris cooley diet and gain a few. i seem to remember watching a video on cooleys blog and the guy eats nothing but mcdonalds and taco bell. |
Re: News from up North
When has Vinny ever kept 4 RB's? Even last year when several people (myself included) thought that we should probably keep Derrick Mason, we didn't. If Dorsey makes it, then either Rock or Betts are out of here.
Yeah Derrick....or Marcus Mason ;) Well like I said in my first post, this guy is very exciting to watch but I don't know that he's someone to get too concerned about because I think the odds of him having any impact past August are slim to none |
Re: News from up North
This guy does remind you of Sproles.. I could see him in a 3rd down back role..the guy has the speed and the small size like Sproles to hide behind the big O-lineman , then burst thru the line with lightning speed..( sorry got carried away) it's a little exciting seeing some new faster faces coming aboard...

first of all it was marcus mason and yes we should have kept him but retarded vinny said no and it hurt us b/c betts went down and we had to sign alexander. maybedumb vinny has learned from that mistake. |

Yes, very retarded to not keep a guy who couldn't come off the practice squad and laid a brick when he played against a starting defense during preseason. |
Re: News from up North
we carried 7 rookies in a PR move to make Cerrato look good. we let Billy McMullen go and kept Malcom Kelly on the active roster, even though our doctors reportedly recommended IRing him. We let Marcus Mason go when he was essentially MVP of the NFL in preseason because we needed roster spots for our 10 draft picks.
I dont care how electrifying this guy is in camp and/or preseason, hes not going to make the active roster unless we trade Cartwright, ARE, or Betts... just my opinion though.
To be honest I say let them cut Rock. He's not a good RB which means he's only a good PK returner. We have Portis who was supposedly a quick run outside type of back who Gibbs turned into a run between the tackles power runner. Betts is no different other then he drops the ball atleast once in a game. Rock is not a power runner and can't find the out side to save his life. The only reason why we keep him is cause he can break an occassional 40-50 yarder once in a while. However you have to endure the 1 step forward and 2 steps back before he breaks one. Rock is truly only 1 step above the TTB. |
Re: News from up North
Marcus Mason = MVP of the preseason
Has there ever been a more meaningless statement? LOL |
Re: News from up North
I am fine with cutting Cartwright, but not just to replace him with this guy... Cartwright excels at his role on the team. The only way i'd get rid of him is if we found someone younger, cheaper, and better on special teams. Considering Rocks a beast on special teams and couldnt come any cheaper, i doubt we get rid of him this year.

Re: News from up North
Rock is a gamer on ST. I've never understood why some want him gone.

I don't know why either. How many good returns does he have called back because of penalties? He's a good RB too! |

did shaun alexander do any better this year. he being signed is the equivelant of steve spurrior drafting taylor jacobs, signing danny wuerffel, and shane matthews. atleast mason has upside, hes young, and worth a shot. |

Shaun Alexander came to this team to be the back-up to our back-up for super cheap money. If we're going to pick up a RB for the future, it needs to be one we pick up in the next year or two in the first or second round. Not some scrub that fans have a man-crush on, who cannot get off the practice squad in any team, and was completely destroyed by a first-string defense. And don't forget that our running game problems were partly b/c of our run blocking and our lack of a passing offense. |

Re: News from up North
Has there ever been a more meaningless statement?
Yes, Mr. Irrelevant. lol. Cartwright excels at his role on the team. I'm sorry I just don't get this statement. What does he excel at? All he is, is a kick returner for kick offs only. I don't recall hearing his name on any of the tackles when we kicked off to the other team. I kept hearing Thrash, Horton, and Thomas making most of the tackles. Considering Rocks a beast on special teams Yes he's a beast if you consistantly want to get to the 20 to 30 yard range. It's not like he's a threat to break one to the end zone. I think he has done one in like 2-3 years or more. I think we are looking at all our RB's and how they are getting older and slowing down, even Portis. We would most likely keep Portis cause he is a beast and for his size can pound the ball between the takles. Don't get me wrong I like what Rock has done for us but I can't see keeping one guy solely for the purpose of being a KR. If Dorsey comes in and can show he's worth something and not only be a KR but a PR also then I would be looking to cut Rock and maybe even Betts in order to keep Portis as our solid RB and Dorsey as our smaller younger scat back/KR/PR. |
Re: News from up North
He only had 9 ST Tackles last year. He combined for 4 40+ yard returns equaling his amount from the previous 2 seasons. He only averaged 2.5 yards per carry and only caught 1 pass for negative yardage. He is the ST captain though.

Rock Cartwright: Career Stats
Oh, yeah forgot that he was the ST Captain. Yep, clearly a beast. Look I'm not saying he's garbage. Just saying if we can get someone who can fill more then one roll ie; being a KR/PR/ and an actual RB to spell Portis would be great as a change up. If he fill this roll good for us if not cut him. I love how people are quick to put down Marcus Mason but please don't put down Thomas for not doing to well vs the first stringers or Kelly. Please don't give me the Kelly was hurt crap either. He was out up until mid season. He technically was ok to play after our mid season break they just didn't activate him or used him very little. If you are going to say they needed time to grow into their roll and 1st year WR never usually do well then please use the same justice for Mason. Mason was cut to make room for either more WR's cause Kelly was hurt and they didn't want to IR him or CB's. Simply put we needed space. Why they wouldn't cut Westbrooke is beyond me but apparently he's worth something of which I can not see. |

I didn't think that we should have kept him last season unless he was going to become the number 2 if we would have traded Betts. In other words, I like him as a number 2 and as a leader in the locker room, but not as a return man. |

Redskins are reportedly also interested in bringing in Brandon Guillory of the Edmonton Eskimos (he's Chris Wilson-esque)
So I talked to my cousin who's been a scout, among other things, for the CFL and his take is that Dorsey is exciting and can give you the occasional big play, but he doesn't think he really has the size nor speed to make up for the lack of size to make it in the NFL.
He liked Chris Wilson when we signed him, thought he'd easily make the team and could be an impact player but he's not as high on Dorsey...for what it's worth
I can see that |

Gosh it looked like the entire mansion exploded. There was one guy, couldn't tell who, trying to run away but the 2nd wave of bombers got him. Ever notice how the Canadian air force still uses prop planes? |
