Re: Jason Taylor Released

My fellow redskins, we dont need that fool anyway our defense is stout with out him. He is a dancer now! Coach gibbs would have never made that move in the 1st place. the only problem is we could have signed canty and that would have been superb! but we have demetris evans and got money to make more moves on other DE's, now andre can focus and the beast daniels will hopefully be able to play. I hope we can get a playmaker RB to back up portis with this money we are saving.
Basically he would not come in 3 days a week for 8 weeks? Bye-bye.
I think the workout bonus part of this smells fishy. Almost like they had to have something to hang the cut on instead of just saying they wanted to go a different direction.

How many years did Springs, Portis, Taylor etc. workout somewhere else?

I don't know why they didn't just cut him a couple of weeks ago. This is kind of stupid if you ask me...

Well that's one way to piss away draft picks.

Supposedly this is part of every players contract, but you're right, it did'nt seem to matter in Springs or Portis's case. So it's either something new their doing or they decided the money is more beneficial right now then Taylor.

Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 but the thought of him playing beside AH is a pretty awesome thought. I think we'll go a little bit more for quantity.

The workout bonus wasn't part of his present contract. They went to him and tried to add conditions to it after the fact. He didn't agree to it so they cut him.

they should trade the entire 2011 draft for him. Then if there is a lockout, they look pretty smart! ha ha

I hate to say it but I definitely thought that Peppers could be on their radar. If that is the case, Danny needs to go on some type of medication.

Well apparently you're right then. It's an excuse. Personally I think we can do more for our team with the money we now have to address some other needs. But Kelly Johnson said on COMCAST that it was being put in to All the players contracts this year including AH, and Hall.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

So... who do we actually have on the roster right now as far as defensive ends are concerned? Carter?.... Anyone else? Bullher....

I dont hate the move... the only fear this puts in me is that we'll now use our top draft pick on a DE instead of an offensive tackle.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Good riddance. Parcells knew what he was doing when he got rid of the guy. I don't fault a guy for being a family man, but last year Taylor was all about being a celebrity on "Dancing With the Stars" - that certainly had to take a lot of time away from the family, yet he's unwilling to devote himself to his employer that agreed to keep him at the full $8M salary that he didn't deserve? I'm glad he's gone - I want guys who want to be part of a "Redskins Revival".

Re: Jason Taylor Released

I guess the Skins like paying players who are no longer on the team, so it's only natural that this year they are using their draft picks on players who won't be on the team. A high 2nd for JT, and Kendall may or may not be around next season, I believe this year's 4th rounder goes to the Jets for him. Counter productive to give up draft picks for players in their mid-thirties.

Have we not blown enough of our load on the defense already?

Do you remember last year's games?...If you did you may have recognized a pattern when our offense took the field.

Our defense still needs a couple of DE's but that is nowhere near the priority that OL is right now.

Hey listen, the guy was going to make $8 million, and all they were asking was that he be here for off season workouts. So, I go back to what I said about Champ when he left. If you dont want to be here, reguardless of the money, we don't want you.

I believe JT would have had a Pro Bowl season in 09. But, This move can potentially allow us to make some nice moves. Does anyone know if Hunter Smith still Avail.?

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Sign Ray Willis, Demetric Evans, then draft Rey Maualuga. After that get a third round Center or Guard.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

I agree with you. At thispoint we need some sound signing that won't break the bank but improve the team- SLB and o line.

You beat me to it. The first thing I thought was wow, now I know why they were giving him interviews and told him that he would fit in our defense. The guy can play DE and OLB and with Marcus gone I can see them getting this guy now. I just wish we'd address the O-line more.

SB in 09' season? If JC and Co. gel. With the right moves in FA/Draft. It is possible.
(Yes I would go that far)

It pisses me off that The Tuna is probably laughing his ass off with our 2nd and 5th round picks. Our FO has pissed away more draft picks than any other team in the league.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

I wonder though if the team tries to go after Mark Tauscher? He's definately the best from a talent perspective but Willis is best from a long term perspective.

I don't really know about this. 8.5 million is a lot of money to go get a player who can bring what Jason Taylor brings, but is that kind of player still around?

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Hind sight is always 20/20. I just wish the Skins hadn't given up the draft picks for the guy.

You can't prevent being injured in this game, stuff happens.

Hope he stays out of this division. I would expect him to have a decent year if he continues to play and is fully healthy.

Not really. It seems like all the Free Agents along the D-Line were DT's this year. Paul Spicer is available though. If he's cheap enough then he's a good stop gap at LDE. Then again he is 34 years old.

i really dont buy that this cut was completley caused because taylor wouldn't report to 75% of the summer workouts. I smell a move coming.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

We need to add kicker to the need list.
FA needs left:
1. o line
2. DE/ SLB
3. kicker

Id assume that we have something in the works. There is no way we cut him for nothing. We still have 4 draft picks that could be thrown away for aging players.

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Peppers?...I was thinking the same thing, and I would be for it as long as it didnt involve a #1 pick this year or next. We have to use this years #1 on one of the 4 RT's as there arent really any other options. Willis? You have to wonder about him somewhat as he is big, young, strong, versatile(G/T), healthy and hasnt received any offers yet. Not even by his own team...or ours for that matter!? That said I would still sign him but strickly as depth. Might even still have money left to sign Crowell/Burnett. I could deal with either but would love to have both as a run/pass combo and to alternate with the fragile McIntosh. So that would address most of major needs except for punter. Not fully sold on Smith though as he has punted indoors for a winning team and not so sure how his numbers would relate to outdoors and NFC east football. Also I wouldnt be too surprised if we made a run at eiter Bly or Bodden somhow. Im not so sure all these moves can be made under the cap but im sure it would be pretty close. Cut Thrash? Restructure someone again? But I do know if there is a way Danny will make it happen as his cap man is our franchise MVP. So what you guys think?

GTripp0012 03-02-2009 05:49 PM

Re: Jason Taylor Released

One thing I would make sure to do is go get a veteran receiver with some of this money. Age doesn't matter, and the shorter the deal the better.

Marvin Harrison?

Re: Jason Taylor Released

Great move but we should have made it last week. Lets go and get Hunter Smith before he is gone. Make smart offers for Ray Willis and Angelo Crowell and no trades plz. We needs those picks.

Probably get Orakpo and AQ Shipley with 1st and 3rd picks.

Dirtbag59 03-02-2009 05:51 PM

Re: Jason Taylor Released

How about this for a DE solution. Resign Demetric Evans, trade down and then proceed to draft Michael Johnson out of Georgia Tech. Nothing will bring out the best in two players like a Bulldog and a Yellow Jacket competing fro playing time at the same spot.

GTripp0012 03-02-2009 05:52 PM

Ideally, though, if he's sitting there a week from now, I'd go after Taylor again. My first solution to his contract situation was to cut him and re-sign him, and I wouldn't be shocked if they are doing exactly that.
