Way to give up before the first snap of OTA's. :Flush: BTW, we don't have all of out picks next year, we sent our 6th to Miami for Taylor so I guess in your mind next offseason is scrapped too? Yay, 2011. :hater:
Ok give 'em a break PT... LOL. We started FA in a flurry so it looked like we might run the table and address a good share of our needs, so now things look a little down. |

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
Given the recent turn of events this is how I see the rest of the offseason shaping up.
- The team will sign Elton Brown within the coming days - Marcus Washington, Renaldo Wynn, and Phillip Daniels will be brought back. - Maualuga will be the Redskins pick in the draft at 13. - When the team comes up in the third round they will try and take the best available Tackle. Possibilities are as follows
Fenuki Tupou - OT - Oregon - NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Fenuki Tupou - This guy is my newest man crush. He has the size to play RT and on top of that he's just plain nasty. Sebastian Vollmer - OT - Houston - Don't know to much about him but he's tall. A little worried about weather or not he can put his hand in the dirt.

Phil Loadholt - OT - Oklahoma - NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Phil Loadholt Would be a coup if we could get him. Definitely has the size and personally reminds me of a more polished tackle version of Dockery.
- The team will eventually meet with Mark Tauscher if they find themselves uncomfortable with their options at RT and see weather or not he'll be ready to play by the time the season starts. - As far as the O-Line is concerned the teams line could end up looking like this Tackles: Chris Samuals, Stephon Heyer, Jon Jansen, 3rd Round Tackle Guard: Derrick Dockery, Randy Thomas, Elton Brown, Chad Rhinehart Center: Casey Rabach, Possibly Pete Kendall as a backup but not sure if the team would carry 10 O-lineman. Then again given how we broke down last year it couldn't hurt. Chad though could see a lot of time on the inactive list if Kendall gets brought back. Of course the team could very well use Jansen as the teams second Center especially with the likihood that he won't be seeing much time at RT this year. - The way I have it calculated now the team would have 54 players on the roster. Canidates not to be on the final roster include: Rob Jackson, Scat Back, Marcus Washington, James Thrash. |
Signing Elton Brown will convince me the FO has gone full retard. He's a guard, a shitty one at that, and we've got Dock, Thomas, Rinehart and Jansen all guaranteed to be on the roster. Dock and Thomas are legit starters, Jansen would fight his guts out I'm sure and Rinehart just needs to pull his head out. As far as signing both Wynn and Daniels I'd again have to say the FO would be in FR mode. Together these guys will cost about what we could have paid to keep Evans, who's younger and healthier. It does look like Daniels will be back but probably we take another guy on the roster to rotate w/ him, like Buzbee. It's a shitty situation as both are coming off major injury and Buzbee hasn't shown squat. Bringing back Marcus would tell me the FO is not drafting Rey and dead set on OT w/ the first pick. Personally I think this is our best strategy where we sit today, as much as I'm fascinated by Rey, because we desperately need serious OT talent on the roster and there's nothing left in FA. |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
Are there no half decent RT's in the CFL to draw from? Someone Buges could coach up? Our only hope is FA and the draft?
Are there no half decent RT's in the CFL to draw from? Someone Buges could coach up? Our only hope is FA and the draft?
Here's a link (hope it works) showing what's left in FA. Barnes is the highest rated and he gave up 7.5 sacks last year  NFL Free Agency - 2009 NFL Free Agents and Signings - ESPN After Barnes it's Tauscher... so yeah I'd say it's the draft. I hope Oher and A. Smith fall to 13 so we can at least choose based on our scouting/interviews/etc. If this is the case we come out smelling like roses cuz the o-line will be balls compared to last year. |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
I heard Barnes was reneging on his deal with the Raiders so it's remotely possible that Vinny could have blown him away with an offer to be our RT.

I thought we we're limited on money now. About $9 mill in cap room and we've got LDE to address and a couple FA who were on our roster last year to re-sign and then the rookies... how much do u think we could reasonably offer Barnes? ... and what do you think of him for RT? |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
Given the recent turn of events this is how I see the rest of the offseason shaping up.
- The team will sign Elton Brown within the coming days
Probably so. Looks like Barnes is asking for too much money. I know some people inside Ashburn think the problem is they need to find a new starting RT, but others feel they need more guys like Brown. Versatile, young backups that make it less painful when injuries inevitably happen to the starters.
- Marcus Washington, Renaldo Wynn, and Phillip Daniels will be brought back.
Renaldo Wynn is one of my favorite people and I still think he's got a bit left in the tank, but I don't think we need him here. Blache wants one thing, and that's Daniels' return so I wouldn't be surprised by that. I don't think Washington will be back but they will probably look to bring either a veteran LB or DB later in the spring, after the draft shakes out.
- Maualuga will be the Redskins pick in the draft at 13.
Or Brian Cushing (I think it's starting to come full circle back to him...few more weeks to go though)
- When the team comes up in the third round they will try and take the best available Tackle. Dock is an upgrade and unless Thomas' injury is really more serious than we've been led to believe I think he fights back very hard. Also, if we do add OT talent then Jansen should be moved inside and again I think he's a fighter... limited physically in his lateral movement but just a tough SOB who will rebound on the interior for as long as he can stay healthy. |

Maybe, but I strongly doubt it. He will demand to much cash for one. Second Khalif is a natural LT from what I've heard and read he can play RT but this is not is strong side. I don't see him being blown away with a big offer to come to DC. |

Rey could probably play WLB w/ success for a couple years before moving to the middle. Rocky would be SLB in this scenario and I think he'd do well. ... I'm of the opinion great defenses, most especially the 4-3 defense, need a monster at MLB. I haven't seen anything like Rey (out of college) in quite awhile and 1) we're relatively close to needing a replacement at the position 2) i have a hard time believing Rey won't be at least as good as Rocky has been at WLB in the interim |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
HELL NO to Wynn and or Cushing. One is old and sucked here the last time he was here and the other is already injury prone and possibly a product of the system.
Gotta be Rey or Oher/Smith at #13 and the opposite in the 3rd round of whatever we do in the first with LB/RT. |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
This trade down scenario with detroit (13 for 20, 33) has merit and deserves further discussion.
The smart and safe move for DET is to pick Monroe (or Jason Smith) #1 at OT. Excellent OTs are exceptionally rare. I think Monroe will be the pick. followed by picks #2-12: blah, insert results from crystal ball here. The only important thing is that Stafford *not* get picked in this group. Looking over the first 12 teams, San Francisco at #10 might be the only team where Stafford would make sense, and for purposes of this trade, I hope they go with someone else. This is where and why the skins can trade #13 for #20, #33: Stafford probably won't make it past the jets at #17. And DET makes this trade to ensure they get Stafford at a much better slot - they almost can't miss with picking Monroe at #1, but Stafford ... who knows? #1 demands way too much guaranteed money. #13 is just right. They pull the trigger, and we get #20 and #33. Redskins select Mack at #20 - some say it's a reach, but we can all see the trend in the NFL toward the 3-4, with massive freaks of nature at NT. The skins also don't want Haynesworth accidently killing Campbell in practice by running of Rabach. In the event of an injury to Dockery or Thomas, Mack moves to G and Rabach moves to C again. #33: Redskins select Eben Britton to play RT. And I'm spent. |

Im all in on OT Britton or Meredith at #33 |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
Everybody seems to think that Detroit will be stupid to trade their 20th pick and their 2nd round pick for our 13th. I think a more realist trade would be their 20th and a 3rd round pick, I guess it comes down to how desperate they are at the time.
|
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
I'm not a huge Rabach fan, seen him get pushed back into JC too many times, but RT is the priority. If one of the big 3 (Smith, Monroe, Smith) doesn't fall then we should draft DE/OLB at 13. I'm pretty wary of Oher for some reason.
While it may sound crazy, what's the harm in seeing what we have in Heyer? He started 12 games over the past 2 years and hasn't been overmatched out there. From what I saw he was an upgrade over Jansen. If we don't sign or draft a 1st round OT I'd give him the job going into OTA's and let him sink or swim. |

This is really weird. It's like they really just don't see anything in any of the FA linemen left. If that is the case and they rather hinge their bets on JUST the draft, I think its a huge gamble. The way we're going I feel it might become a necessity to call out a Britton with our 13th pick. If we can't trade down and the big 4 are not there, we will still need to get an offensive tackle. At least to show that they are trying. Smoot, have you heard anything else from the Barnes front. Haven't heard anything except that he is asking for vernon carey type money which is obsurd. |

So yeah we're probably addressing that position in the draft and one of the top 4 guys should fall to us. On the flip side there is some talent to be recruited at LDE and OLB (in FA). We're not flush w/ cash so we have to move carefully... but i feel pretty confident by the time OTAs roll around we'll have signed some talent off the FA market to those spots. ... i'm still hoping for Marcus to return. |

I don't think Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew are stupid. If people think Detroit would give up their 2nd rounder to move 7 seven spots, then you are dreaming. The 3rd round pick is the first pick of the 3rd round which is more realistic. Good luck finding a taker in that kind of deal. You could also trade the 13th pick for their 2nd, 3rd and possibly a 5th rounder. Actually, the Redskins would do the kind of deal you describe. Giving a 2nd rounder and a 6th for a on old DE. |

Doesn't it all depend on who is available at 13? I don't even know if the Lions have a legit QB and dirty Sanchez may fall to that spot... but he probably won't fall all the way to 20. But i agree we're not gonna just swap our 1st for the 20th and 33rd. To get those picks we probably need to sweeten the deal packaging our 1st and last or 1st and 5th rd pick. |
Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
If we were to sweeten the deal...maybe. I would be shocked and elated if Detroit gave us #20 AND #33 for #13. As SFREDSKIN said, a first and third would make more sense for Detroit according to the value chart.

Well Jim Schwartz and Martin Mayhew are not the owners of the team. Who knows what they would do, but given their track records the Lions haven't made the best offseason choices in the past. You know there are worst front offices/owners than our own. The funny thing is that my post was more of a joke on the Lions rather than an opinion on the matter discussed. |

The only source (if you can really call him one) I have with any relevant news basically said that they don't feel the need to sign a guy just to sign him. I predict a run at O-linemen like we did last year with receivers. It seems our FO targets a need and goes for the kill and I don't mean that in a negative way. Lets just hope one of the 4 are there and we can get a cost effective solution at SLB at least for this year. |
