Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I went to HS with Doug Dutch, the CB from Michigan we signed. He used to be a WR but never played much at Michigan. I'd honestly be surprised if he made the team.

Should he be coming back to DC??? |

He'd be a good signing, but I doubt he'd make the roster... again.

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
To Recap on Mason, we put him on our practice squad, went to Baltimore, who was looking for a RB, didnt make it, went to NYJ, and got cut. Did I miss something?

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
^^ but, but, he was the leading rusher in preseason! Zorn messed with his head and screwed him up for other teams! He would have been better than Portis if we had given him a chance!! Our FO just doesn't recognize talent! Damn them, damn them to hell.

I beg to differ. Portis is the best blocker in the league. Mason is Mr. No-block. If you don't want Campbell to be decapitated then you want a back who can block, not just run. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Come on let's get Adam Leonard and dan Kelly of Hawaii come on vinny read this and bring them in
|
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Adam Leonard is a beast, or at least he looked like one against WAC teams. Dan Kelly gan kick 60 yarders like nothing in warmups, but seems to miss a lot of in game field goals. what about Solomon Eliminian, he's a beast to. him and Leonard were a good linebacking core for Hawaii.

I do believe JoeRedskin was mocking the marcus mason mania. I would stick my neck out and say Joe was quite ok with the fact that Mason did not prove himself after he left our team. |

To recap, recap.....we had 3 RB and put him on practice squad. Baltimore picked him up after one of their RB got hurt leaving them with 2 really good RB's so they put him on practice squad. Then the same thing happened to the Jets so they brought him to NJ and he was active but never used due to them having 2 really decent RB's. If any of you thought he was going to go to a team and start right off over Portis, Betts, or whoever was at Balt. after like 2-3 games or to the Jets like after 4 games and start not knowing the plays your crazy. Now be honest, He's a good RB. He could be a really good RB if given time to learn or should we right him off and throw in Thomas and Kelly since they sucked also? If your going to give a WR time to learn the speed and timing and route running and tricks to throw off the defender then I think you could give Mason a little time to become good also. I say sign him. He should remember the plays and if nothing else he's camp fodder again. but keep in mind he did make the practice squad last yr. No different then Byron Westbrook who has not seen the field and been on the practice squad team for like 3 yrs. |

How about at WR? Jaison Williams and Greg Carr or Aaron Kelly are big target recievers who put up respectable numbers.

Mason is definitely worth another look, he reminds me alot of Pierre Thomas here in New Orleans and I think he could be a solid contributor... Besides, when was the last time Betts or Rock did anything for our run game? This kid is hungry and he has young fresh legs, a good combo to have for a RB.:soapbox: |

Perhaps he did. Do you have any suggestions on bringing any free agent RBs or just being cute? |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Why do we need to bring in anymore backs?
|
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I'm not sold on Betts being a SOLID number 2 option. The ONLY thing Betts has done for The Redskins was in 2005 after Portis went out for the season hurt.(1000 + rush yards) Since then I have not seen much production out of him. I am interested to see what the young guys that we brought in from the CFL and Denver can do, but why not give Mason another shot?

We may bring him back, but its hard to see that it would make a difference. He went through two preseasons with us, could not make the 53. Then last season got an opportunity with 2 different teams and couldn't make their 53. IF you want to bring a runner in, then at this point you want to find the youthful runner who is up and coming, and Mason doesn't fit that bill. Also, you know he isn't going to make the team solely on ST ability so it's hard to see him coming in and finding a spot on our roster. |

Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I love the fact that we pick up a UFA (Marcus Mason) and he plays well, all be it against second stringers, but he does well. People fail to realize that's how one must start out in this league and that includes Thomas and Kelly. Some, and they are few and far in between have the god given talent to start right away. Now don't get me wrong I don't think he's the next coming of Barry Sanders, but he was able to find holes.
If my memory serves me well Portis was doing a terrible job at pass blocking also. If memory serves correctly Zorn was mad cause Portis was not blocking the right person half the time. Which is why we tried to put two backs Portis and Sellers in so Sellers could help pick up the blitzing person and we still had sacks. So blast Mason all you want. Give him the ball and he found the holes like he was supposed to, and given time he might have gotten better at pass blocking. I mean it's funny ....lets complain that they are not giving JC another yr at QB. Lets complain that JC has only 5 yrs with the team and only 1 3/4 yrs actually starting. Lets complain that he deserves a chance. Then on a side not ....screw Marcus Mason. Who cares that he only had one preseason, 4 games to show is abilities. He must be as dumb as a box of rocks. All his work was against 2nd stringers. Wait....thats all Colt Brennan has had. That's all JC had prior to 2 1/2 seasons ago. If he sucks then Brennan sucks also. Same with Thomas, kelly, and Davis. I really didn't see them do anything against 1st stringers that stood out except perhaps Thomas's TD that got called back and one 1st down at the end of the season. Having said all that if he's back of course I'm rooting for my boy, but I doubt he's coming back to us. So who is the new UFA kid on the block everyone is rooting for? |
Either I am once again missing sarcasm or you and I have been watching different Redskins games.
I think I watched the same games you did. And never mind that Mason actually had two preseasons and neither the Ravens nor Jets felt the need to keep him around either. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Betts is on the wrong side of 30, and not the surest of ball carriers. Rock is a solid KR and ST captain. I like the guy alot but he has shown himself to be ineffective in the rushing game. I'm not trying to step on anybody's toes here just suggesting that the team needs to have a capable backup to Portis in order to reduce the every day wear and tear on CP, and God forbid, shoulder the load if CP were to go down hurt. PS I'm not suggesting that Portis' replacement is out there somewhere in free agency right now, just simply saying Mason looked very hungry last year, why not bring him for camp...
|
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I don't know Mason had 4.8 yrds rushing avg in preseason and 7.0 passing yrds avg.
I thought he did better then Rock as a RB. Rock reminds me of the TTB. Two steps forward and 5 back. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
I have no problem bringing him back to be a camp body, but to think he would have a realistic chance at beating out Betts or Rock is a pipe dream.
|
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Either I am once again missing sarcasm or you and I have been watching different Redskins games.
Nope, I watched the same as you. |
Re: Undrafted Rookies Signed
Rock had 7.4 yrds rushing yrds avg against and 4.0 passing yrds avg. against second stringers. Numbers are similar.
