Re: iPhone

Just discovered "Remote." If your iPhone is on the same the network as your computers, you can use your phone as a remote control for your iTunes. Unreal. I equate the iPhone to killing ants with a bazooka.

the amazing thing is, it is absolutely not a joke. I looked around and read about it. Apparently it works. Whenever I'm outside, I'm always the first person to get eaten by mosquitos. I'm really looking forward to trying it.
That's just it. I used to be the same way. But once you try it out the iPhone there's no going back. It's so much more than just a phone.
How is it as a phone though? Because my wife has an iPhone and she loves everything about it, except when she actually has to use it as a phone. She's had numerous problems with it. The latest is that voice mail messages left for her don't actually appear on her phone until several days later and missed calls don't show up.

On a related note, does anyone have the Palm Pre? Any thoughts?

I think this largely depends on the network in your area. My wife manages all of the phone accounts (on the tech side) at her company, and they use AT&T. She loves the iPhone, but around here, the 3G AT&T network is absolute garbage. I've always been a blackberry user, still am because of work, but there's no comparison between the two. iPhone kicks blackberry's ass all day, every day.

I haven't had any issues yet. Granted I've only had it for less than a week, but I've received and placed a few dozen calls without issue, and received a few voicemails without any problems either. I've used it with and without my bluetooth. I've also had more than one person tell me I sound more clear than I did when using my old phone.

Maybe your wife got a lemon. I haven't talked to any iPhone owners who have had phone-related issues.

Re: iPhone

Two must have apps are google and remote. The google app doesn't require you to type your search, just speak it. The voice recognition is excellent. Pretty sweet.

Remote is sick. If your iPhone is connected to the same network as your computer, you can pair your phone with your iTunes and use it as a wireless remote control.

Both apps are free.

I must say, this iPhone is the best gadget purchase I've made since I first bought an HD television.

I also just picked up the free app "CardStar." It creates on-screen bar codes for all of your membership cards (Blockbuster, grocery stores, gyms) which scan just like the originals. Helped me get rid of my Constanza wallet.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded it today and set up my Vitamin Shoppe, Giant Food, and gym membership card. Good stuff.

Re: iPhone

Question for you iPhone savvy folks-

I have several movies on my computer, a few of which I'd like to upload on to my phone, but the movies weren't purchased through iTunes, and they aren't in my iTunes software. How do I get those movies on to my phone? I tried going to the "add files to library" section of iTunes and selecting the files, but they aren't showing up under the "movies" tab.

Re: iPhone

Ok, you need to use an app to convert the source to compatible format. I just downloaded Handbrake and was playing a bit torrented .avi of Iron Man (720p) in about 15 minutes. Handbrake is very intuitive, but let me know if you need an assist.

BTW- you do add them via the method you were trying. I think you were running into issues with incompatible file types...

Good to hear about iPhone MMS. It's been annoying having such a nice camera on the phone and not be able to directly send pics. Quip is a solid app, but it only sends a link to the pic, not the pic itself.

BleedBurgundy, I could never find the Handbrake app you speak of. Searched for it a few times to no avail.

This is good news for iPhone/iPod/iTouch users:

I know it just came out, but anyone download Madden '10 yet? It's a $7 app, so I'd love to hear a review before I buy it.

The new Nano looks pretty nice, but with only 16 GB I can't justify buying it.

The technological achievements of this generation are amazing! 16GB, and it's not enough. I read an article talking about nano-computing. It all is incredible

Wife just gave her iPhone 3Gs back, got too tired of the shitty AT&T network around here. Picked her up the new Google Android Phone, HTC Hero. Looks like a mini-iphone. Anyone else have one? Recommend anything for it?

New free iPhone app I like: Opera mini web browser.

It's much faster than Safari and has several nice features. I have stopped using Safari as my iPhone browser.
