Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
The Big Issues: Will Campbell Return? (from Washington Post)
With two quiet weeks looming until organized team activities resume June 1, this seems like a good time to get your take on the team's burning issues. First up: the QB or, as Jim Zorn says it, the kewbie. Given that owner Daniel Snyder attempted to trade for Jay Cutler and considered moving up in the NFL draft to select quarterback Mark Sanchez, Jason Campbell's status is questionable. Do you think this will be quarterback Jason Campbell's last season with the Redskins and why?
If the skins do not win this year then Campbell will be among a long list of players and coaches on this team that do not return. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
...JC has struggled w/ accuracy off and on w/o question. The worst last year IMO was a short pass to a wide open Portis that somehow was well behind and too high...i think this one got picked off. Anyway, Jason has shown he can throw a good ball it's just a matter of consistency. Zorn working w/ him gives me confidence overall...JC will continue to improve, even markedly. Everybody just chill a bit...
If you're talking about the one against Pittsburgh...oh man Randy Thomas got killed off the snap. Still, you'd like to see some touch on the ball even under duress. Though, in Jason's defense, it only ended up as an INT instead of an incompletion because Portis reached well outside his frame to catch the errant throw, and just batted it up in the air.

GT u have a photographic memory or something? Yeah I'm sure it was the Pitt game now that you reminded me. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Agree with GMScud. I remember JC over-throwing some deep balls or being too far inside/outside, but don't remember any under-thrown passes.
He overthrew mid-range balls but almost never deep ones. Its seems like every bomb to Moss, Moss has to slow down, turn around and sort of wait for the ball to get there. I kept thinking that they needed to adjust the WR routes to not out-run JC's arm. |

I remember quite a few deep ball overthrows too. I remember thinking "Damn, he out threw Santana at a full sprint". Unlike GTripp, I do not have a photographic memory. I do distinctly remember having the thought though. Also, I have seen quotes from at least two offensive guys indicating JC's arm strength. One was along the lines of "With JC's arm, we ought to throwing it deep 3 or 4 times a game". That one I think was R. Thomas but not sure. The other was a simple "We (the WR's) aren't going to outrun JC's arm". I am pretty sure that one was ARE. Quite frankly, other than by you, I have never seen it suggested that JC's arm was anything other than very powerful. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Noone will say Physically JC has a weakness. IMO its all upstairs.
the guy looks confused after the snap and has admitted to forgetting plays. |

Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
my bad, he didnt forget. he claims he didnt hear the play. carolina game.
i remembered reading it wasnt the play called and he made one up. luckily and he even said god was with him as he hit Cooley who broke a long run for the TD to win. |

They're coming fast and furious lately huh... Doesn't have a strong arm, can't remember plays, no emotion, etc. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
i don't think anyone could just his arm strength. maybe just his deep ball accuracy.

Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Bottomline, this guy is a former 1st round pick, got paid 1st round money and has yet to show Washington a return on their investment. He has one of the top Backs in the league in CP, a very good TE in Cooley and a good WR in Moss.
players change OC's and even teams each year and have good seasons so enough of that excuse. |

Didn't CP's production fall off drastically in the second half? As far as money, JC is a value for us in his cap number right now. Also, let's not kid ourselves, our WR corps is not top flight. Moss is a smallish, speed WR. Outside of him what did we have last year. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Which brings me to my next point....
Jason better dig down and find something deep within himself to improve upon. Because i wouldn't count on Derrick Dockery shoring up all of our OL problems. And i certainly wouldnt count on Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly taking a step forward. They may..but i wouldn't count on it. Not if my job depended on it. |

And we hear about 1 being a problem. JC is not the first QB to call his own play in the huddle. |

JC isn't Colt Brennan, who can block for himself and catch his own passes. |

We will let him go without resigning him because without those tools, he will not improve. Nice Colt name drop. Colt is the best thing since sliced bread and the west coast offense. |

We've heard nothing but glowing reports and excitement from everyone surrounding the team about their offseasons. People need a reality check regarding expectations of rookie players and giving up on them so easily. It's madness around here. |

Doesn't have a strong arm, can't remember plays, no emotion, etc.
I also hear that: - his sh** stinks worse than the average chocolate monkey; - he regularly has breakfest with known Skins hater Peter King; - he wears "Thomas the Tank Engine" underwear; - he is actually a cylon; - at night, when he is all alone (and not banging his beauty queen girlfriend), he wishes he could play for Philadelphia; and - he doesn't think Art Monk should be in the Hall of Fame. |

Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Read the entire comment. The OL is more detrimental than the receivers. And no, i don't think the injury prone receivers we drafted in last year's 2nd round are going to be so successfull that Jason is going to improve with them.
And why don't you temper your expectations when all of your sources are on the 'skins payroll. |

I hate to quote long posts. Mainly because i hate when other people do it, the less rotations of my mouse, the better. I know, the height of laziness.

You can quote part of the quote then or at least acknowledge who you're talking about. I still can't figure out who your "temper your expectations" comments was directed to. |

It was directed at Paintrain. Quick side note: Did San Diego's OC move to the Saints with Drew Brees? |

Quick side note: Did San Diego's OC move to the Saints with Drew Brees?
No, but Brees spent 4 years under Marty before going to New Orleans, he played a total of five years with the Chargers. So once again, continuity is a good thing. |

You can chose to claim defeat and negativity all you like, I choose the have a positive outlook and high expectations. |

My UPS guy thinks Cooley is below average & would like to trade him away. For whom, I don't know, but he thinks Cooley is a waste. I had to stop talking to him. It makes me wonder, with all this hate running around how these "haters" can call themselves fans of a team they hate so much? It's like hating alcohol while being a drunk. I just don't get that. |
Re: Will Jason Campbell return?
Enough is enough!! As of now JC is our QB- we don't have an heir-apparent. The receivers and O-line must step up to help him to the next level. If we don't show him some love of course he"ll bolt.
Last year's numbers were not bad given his deteriorating o-line and receiver situation as the year progressed. We need to show him there's a promising future here. |
