I'm pretty sure the Skins aren't the only team with players that skip out on voluntary workouts and don't return calls.

Just as an example:
this was the crew missing from Dallas':

K Nick Folk
WR Travis Wilson
WR Sam Hurd
WR Miles Austin
S Courtney Brown
CB Mike Mickens
FB Deon Anderson
CB Terence Newman
TE Rodney Hannah
LB Justin Rogers
LB Stephen Hodge
LB Bradie James
LB Victor Butler
G Kyle Kosier
OT Michael Turkovich
WR Isaiah Stanback
DT Tim Anderson
DE Jason Hatcher
(this was from their OTA last week)
Really is a non-issue, In fact, I would agree with the sentiment that having all but one is a huge positive reflection on the FO. I just hope it all translates in the regular season.

The only problem I have is that its a team sport and everyone else is in DC and you know the players take notice of who did not show up.
Yeah, to be perfectly candid with you GMScud, I seriously hope Laron shows up... I promise you that I spoke to him, and all that I have posted is what I genuinely took of the conversation. That being said, and all things considered, I will look like a fool if he does not in fact show up.. This is so me. I love to put my foot in my mouth, not that I like the taste though. I just post the truth as I see and hear it.
I don't blame you for sharing your conversation with us. As far as i'm concerned: either Laron didnt talk to you and someone was pulling your leg or he just told you what you wanted to hear.

If the latter is the case, then it would seem landry is being somewhat two-faced.

CAVEAT: The difference between that list of missing players and Landry is that all the players listed above were EXCUSED from OTA's for that particular day. They are there at OTA's and they are not ignoring the phone when the coach calls.

Nick Folk and Isaiah Stanback are coming off injury.

I knew some were excused, I understood they were all missing, but still my point was not to bash the cowboys, no matter how fun, but to point out that one player not in attendance is not an indicator of poor FO style, or any cause for alarm.

True, but most people did because they were better players than Landry, and it showed on the field. LL hasn't fully shown what he can be and that's where the issue lies with me. He thinks he's great but he's just a good FS right now. The problem with LL is that he's on the borderline between good/great, but his work ethic seems to be lacking. Some guys just aren't motivated to be great, which is what it comes down to. The problem I have is that he hasn't shown up at all, and then not calling the coach back is BS. Someone said earlier, if DS called Landry would be sure to pickup his phone.

Apparently you haven't met BHA, hah.

But I do agree with BHA, there are only two possibilities. They seem to be the most likely.

I agree, these are two possibilities... When do the next otas begin anyway?

Re: Landry is MIA

Laron Landry skips OTAs and the press begins to speculate that he's unhappy and wants to be traded. Meanwhile, Asante Samuel does the same thing and it is not a big deal apparently.

Re: Landry is MIA

I don't see this as a big deal at all. As stated before - key word is VOLUNTARY. I highly doubt that Landry wants to be anywhere but Washington. Over and out.

At the top of the screen just underneath the banner on the left, use the "Forums" drop down tab. Choose the forum that fits your topic. On that page, you should see a "start thread" button.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but Landry is still MIA. Last day of OTA's is tomorrow.

So now what will Mike Florio write to antagonize the Redskins? Oh wait, I'm sure he'll exaggerate something else.

Well I guess the one good thing about it is that it gave the Skins some time to evaluate some of the many safeties that we brought in.

No, most players have exotic, permanent tattoos that they'll regret in 10 years. When Landry's tired of his pierce, he'll just pull it out and throw it away.

Geez, since when did Redskin fans become so uptight?

sportscurmudgeon 06-11-2009 09:50 PM

Re: Landry is MIA

tryfuhl:

If indeed the head coach of the Washington Redskins did not have access to the phone number for one of its starting players, then the team should be ashamed to have that fact made public. That would make the Skins' organization look more like the East Bumfu*ck Buttcheese than a professional football team.

What this was all this was Laron Landry preferring to do something other than "OTAs". Put aside all the angst and nonsense for a moment; when all the smoke clears, who are going to be the starting safeties for the Redskins in September? Landry and "someone else". That's it - - unless Landry is in a car accident and winds up in a body cast. Even then, he might start by Game 8.

It isn't as if Laron Landry needs to "learn the system" or as if he needs to "impress the coaches". He's the best player on the defense behind Albert Haynesworth. That fact does not change with or without his attendance at OTAs.

BUT if no one in the Skins' organization had a way to contact him - - via phone or e-mail or friends or family - - then shame on the organization!

Dude I'm 27 and still wouldn't do it. It looks better on women, not 24yr old men, it looks kinda gay to be honest. Tattoos I'm cool with (I got 3), so there's no need to hate.

It's not uptight when when a football player has a lip pierce that looks llike something a 17 yr old girl would where. You must have 1 (or maybe more) since you're so "uptight" about us discussing it. No one has a problem with tattoos, it's the piercing that looks goofy.
