So how about that Colt Brennan. If nothing else he's going to make the preseason interesting.

Colt Brennan threw a quick pass to Marques Hagans, who caught in stride and turned up-field for a big gain. “That was a great pass!” yelled a fan. “Controversy!” shouted another.
Interesting indeed.

I haven't commented here in a while, but I felt compelled to do so.

There is a heavy bias to the status quo here on the warpath. Whatever the mods and "veteran" posters like stays up, and whatever they don't gets taken down or locked. So when the little guy complains its falls on deaf ears. I have gotten ripped for saying less on here, and have gotten chastised for offending fewer. So, why is it when someone who isnt a mod or veteran poster feels slighted, we tell them to suck it up or worse, we call them all types of names. To add further insult to injury, you tell the man to do all types of things to avoid or ignore what he is offended about. So rather than addressing the issue, you tell him to go to the "options bar" so he can ignore the avatar. By implication that says to me, "If you don't like it ignore it or leave, cuz we are gonna do what we like."

I get it now, this site belongs to a select few and what they want goes. I understand that the way it was presented was a little "eclectic," but the fact remains that no matter how it is viewed, calling CB the "Pineapple Jesus" is offensive. Period. Whether it is offensive by a lot or a little, to have the crown of thorns trivialized like that is going to offend people. What if I believed that Jason Campbell was the last prophet, and I called him Jason Muhammed? Or what if I linked Portis to being the Dali Lama or some ish like that. Point is, once religious parallels are used, one is asking for trouble, and in my opinion, its not worth it for a player who HASN'T PLAYED A SINGLE REGULAR SEASON DOWN FOR US!

There isn't a radio or tv station that would be able to hold that up for a week before people would begin to protest. There is no way to justify the nickname. The best reason that one can come up with to justify it is that it is catchy and that this is all in good fun, but ultimately that loses its cred in the court of common sense.

So I plead with the warpath mods, if you want to be taken seriously as objective moderators with all of the censoring/editing that you do, please lock/delete this thread and create a new one that is more creative and less offensive. . It will not be hard, we are all intelligent, and I know we can come up with something better to call CB that Pineapple Jesus.

Re: Pineapple Je5us (Colt Brennan tribute)

As for "me being me", first let me apologize for the harshness. I had a few beers in me last night, which led to the childishness. That's no excuse, of course. I do tend to come down on this kind of thing when I think it's warranted, but I can probably deride someone without calling names and such.

I don't want some sort of different treatment from the mods when it comes to the forum guidelines. I get what SS is saying, to maintain the site as a civil place, me calling someone an idiot doesn't help matters. So my bad, I take back the name calling. Skinznut I apologize.

However, let me say, and I think it's a fair point, that the mods didn't take any action here because on some level public derision of skinsnut was called for. Not the name-calling, but he definitely deserved to have it publicly noted that his opinion was ridiculous. He deserved to be painted as someone who failed to think.

I've been banned before. I won't go into specifics, but Matty leveled the boom on me because I was both breaking the forum guidelines and being unreasonable. And it was a fair move. In this case, I broke the forum guidelines. Now I'm not saying whether or not Matty or the mods thought I was being reasonable, but all I know is I see a big difference from this instance and the time I got banned.

So, sorry for the namecalling. I'll do better to keep that stuff out of the forums.

I would respectfully disagree with your opinion. In my experience on this site, the mods are fair, and evaluate each unique situation on an individual basis. They exercise reasonable judgment with little bias, include banning veteran posters like me at times.

In this case, they don't see fit to change something that 95% of Warpath members find funny, just to appease the other 5%. Basically, they're not letting a whiny 5% ruin the fun for the rest of us.

I for one, am glad they exercise such sound judgment, as they've done for years.

So you want the site to bow to the cries of a small minority that find "fruit god" horribly offensive?

If we ran things that way I don't think much would get accomplished around here. Where do we draw the line? If someone gets offended or put off by a discussion by your logic we should cater to that one person and say F off to the majority? Sorry, just not following your logic.

Seriously guys, im sure we all come from different backgrounds and the only thing that draws us here is our common love and support for our team. Most of us will never meet face to face and if you are going to be so easily offended by a person you dont know and will never see then you are not NET TOUGH and need to find a different way to show your support.

In spite of what some people may think, the mods here try to do a good and fair job. Nobody is perfect of course, but our intentions always have the better good of the site in mind at all times.

I'm sorry if a few people are offended, but the majority seem to have no problem with it and can see where it was coming from. That said, I can't justify bowing to the needs of just a few people when the majority don't have a problem with it.

Nah, threads don't get closed because one person requests it. It might look that way, but when that happens the thread was already well on it's way to being locked before anyone said anything.

When i come on here i know what im getting into. I know that when it comes to something like our QB position thats where alot of us are divided. i expect to take alot of flak from the JC supporters and when i express my thoughts of him it usually leads to a heated discussion and to me its all in good fun. I dont get offended by anyone and I dont take it serious enough to the point where im going to ask that the convo end or that someone is banned. If you cant take the heat keep your @$$ out the kitchen.

Yeah that would be it, definitely

There's no real hard guidelines or anything, just a feeling that a thread is going nowhere and has exhausted it's usefulness.

Or a duplicate of course.

Re: Pineapple Je5us (Colt Brennan tribute)

I just wanted to state my case, and just as I had suspected, the mods proved me to be right. They are just going to do what they want to do. The environment here on warpath is essentially hegemonic in nature. The guys at the top are gonna do what they want and say what they want without reproach, while the marginalizing the opinions of the few.

There is no longer any balance here. If one is offended, its a good chance its just gonna stay up there unless mods disapprove.

And as for Matty, you seem to be a pretty stand up guy. Objective in most cases that I have seen you comment on, but I am disappointed to say the least. Not only is the topic brushed off, but it is posted on your personal avatar. One could constitute that as a slap in the face, but its whatever.

Like I said, my case was stated, mods acted like expected, and the result will remain the same. So to all out there who may hold anything sacred, do not be surprised if one day you are in this position. Pleading your case only goes but so far on here, that is unless you are part of the hegemony.

This is my last post on this topic. I will trust the mods to do what is right.

Guess I'll ask this again since you seemed to brush aside my response.

Where do we draw the line if we bow to the minority here? Anytime someone has a problem with something we're supposed to shut down threads and remove content? All for 1 or 2 people? Really?

Re: Pineapple Je5us (Colt Brennan tribute)

I agree with skinsnut, and I'm not a religious fanatic. But I thought the comments in the other thread were offensive, but now there's an entire thread about this which is even more over the top.

The picture with thorns and Jesus in the title is pretty ridiculous. The thorned pinapple is pretty silly, but doesn't really belong in a conversation about football. "Ante, Christ" images? Are you serious? I'd imagine if there was a swastika, if there were indian scalps, if there were muslim symbols -- I wonder if the mods would respond then.

I'm discouraged everyone just make fun of skinsnut, and I'm disappointed that the moderators are so underwhelmingly apathetic.

I'm not sure if I'll visit this forum in the future. I had thought there were good informed points of view here, but clearly not worth it.

After all, it's just a game.

Re: Pineapple Je5us (Colt Brennan tribute)

If you try hard enough you can find offense in anything.
I would never buy a Pineapple Jesus t-shirt (or an F*&^ Dallas shirt for that matter) but to censor someones right to express it is the offensive part. In today's world people want the freedom to say what they want and never hear any other views. The only difference between Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern is which side of the extreme you favor.
However, one thing I've always liked about this site is the disagreements without namecalling and personal attacks. IMHO, this was the only line that was crossed.

Why even bother to post if you are going to say some garbage like "everyone just make fun of skinsnut" because that's not at all what happened.

Read the thread again.

Or look up the word "everyone" in the dictionary.

Re: Pineapple Je5us (Colt Brennan tribute)

To the folks who find the Colt imagery to be offensive, I apologize for myself and others. It is not good to feel like what is sacred to you is being dragged through the mud. People should be sensitive about this.

However, the intent was never to denigrate Jesus. Symbols related to Jesus were borrowed but Jesus was never depicted in a bad light. Jesus was not personally attacked. People did not intend to mock Jesus at all but rather to mock other people. People were trying to have fun and were not seeking to cause offense.

I self-identify as a Buddhist. I would not mind if the imagery were "Pineapple Buddha," including an image of Colt sitting under the tree of enlightenment. I would know that it all was in fun. However, something would be lost, because part of the mockery of people who lionize Colt concerns the idea that he is our football savior, and the Buddha clearly stated that he was not a savior.

I encourage everyone to be respectful of religious sensibilities of others. And I encourage those who were offended by the Colt imagery to change their attitude from outrage to disapproving.
