Robert Thomas moving up the depth chart isn't a good sign even though he did his job on teams.
whyd you stop there? my point was we struggled to score points.We didnt score over 20 points in a game again till the last game of the season(unless you count dtroit,we scored 25,but moss scored on a punt return,not the off}
so over the last 11 games we averaged 14 points a game, thats my point.
I wondered the same. Thats when things began to slide. |

Have some patience my friend, its was only 10 plays. Come back with that argument after 2 more games and maybe it would be relevant. |

Look, if we don't dominate, on both sides of the line, one of our first 3 opponents (NYG, STL, DET) then the "Kool-aid buzz" will be gone. But for preseason, and I mean all 4 games, I don't want the coaches worrying about running up the score, I want them to evaluate the 2s against the opponents 1s, the 3s against the opponents 2s, but guess what, that means more often than not, we will lose the game. |

Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down
No need to panic yet. Wait til after preseason game #3 and if the same trend continues then start to panic. Thing is our secondary thus far looks like a sieve, if they can tighten up by the regular season we should be OK, but if they are going to be a leaky sieve during preseason, why think things will be much diiferent when the games really count?

If anything we have been exposed as having major depth problems.

Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down
wow im shocked JC was ineffective. lol
why dont they keep him in longer during pre-season games? apparently he has a looooong learning curve. we'll need turnovers by the defense this year to get some starting field position, because if you think JC is going to drive us 80 yards, you havent watched any games the last 2+ years. I know, blame it on injuries to the O-line and changing coordinators . . blah blah blah. |

Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down
anytime you're shut out in a football game its a sign of being at rock bottom. I was also disappointed in Colt Brennan, but he was in the game with 3rd and 4th team players.

Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down
That is funny!!!!!!! Thing is Collins is solid so Brennan thus far is definitely penciled in at no higher than #3 QB. I do hope they give Chase a shot though. He played big time ball in the Big 12 and although came up short in the Big 12 title chases the past 2 seasons, he did face stiff competition. Chase could have had Coltlike numbers if he went to Hawaii. I mean who was their toughest opponent minus Georgia? Washington?

Don't blame you there Rush. JC was hardly in there to begin with, and going 3 for 6 isn't what I call ineffective. |

Obviousley he needs more reps vs a defense other than ours. IMO The starters on O need to be out there until they show signs of getting it together. If they arent clicking now i dont want to wait till week 1 and see if it magically comes together vs the Gmen |

If you are going to keep the QB in, you have to keep his offensive line in as well. At some point, chemistry be damned, it's the preseason.
I'm just not sure that point should be after two drives. |

Since when does a Conf tell us what a QB can do? I guess Flacco,BigBen, and Aaron Rodgers all faced tough defenses in college that made them NFL ready Look at the top qbs in the league... not many came from what you would call a powerhouse conf. |

I would have liked JC to be out there for more than two series, but it was the first game. I hope and expect that as the preseason progress, we can see more of the entire first-team offense out there. (I'm agreeing with you too...are you brainwashing us? Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down
I believe by now everyone knows my stand on ol JC but if its gonna be his last shot at least give the kid a chance. why put in the other 3 for most of the preseason games if you know he needs work? if he loses his job at least let it be because someone beat him by being better, not by taping his hands. i wouldnt even feel right if it happened that way,
|
Re: Preseason Game 1 Quick Hitters: First of all, calm the hell down
I agree with what you're saying. There's a fine line though with playing starters too much and taking the chance of them getting hurt in the preseason. But I think we should, and will, play them more often in the next couple of games. Like you said, I don't want to wait until we play the Giants to start trying to get our offense going. By the way, thanks for serving our country. :food-smil

no,thats not at all what I was saying.Where do I say that? Last yr we had trouble scoring, trend continues so far this preseason.I said if that same trend continues throughout this preseason then i think it will carry over to reg season,in no way shape or form did i imply this season was lost on this game |

youve lost me,I dont know what your point is? I didnt check the first 5 games because thats where he ended.I was trying to make the point we had trouble scoring last yr,I think everyone would agree with that.We def did a better job 4 out of the 5 first games than the rest of the season.27 other teams scored more points than us last yr. |

If Asante Samuel intercepts a ball, and returns it for 6 points, the Eagles "offensive PPG" goes up 6-7 points. But their offense never stepped on the field!
Teams can expect roughly 3-5 TDs from sources outside of their offense per year. Some teams will get more, others less. Your claim that the Redskins did not score 20 points but two times after week 5 is correct, but I took exception to the fact that you pointed out that the Redskins offense did not produce 20 points against Detroit without the help of its' special teams. The problem: is that if our defense and special teams had been less pathetic in this aspect, we could have scored 20 points in more than half our games without a single additional point from the offense. In trying to disqualify one of the six games we did break the 20 point threshold (which is an arbitrary cutoff with no meaning, but thats a different debate), you implied that we were reliant on defense/special teams to reach our scoring levels. That couldn't have been more incorrect, which is why I corrected you. And yes, I am a nitpicky little biaotch. |

So, if I understand you right, your concern is that the first preseason game is a continuation of the struggles we ended the previous year with. And you're thinking what in the world have we been doing all off-season and mini-camp and OTAs and training camp if we're no better? And I can understand that frustration. What I thought you were saying, and maybe you are, was that last preseason's offensive struggles led right into the same during the regular season. And that wasn't really the case because we got off to a pretty strong start |
