Re: Randy Moss = no class
thecooleyzone,
Hard to understand that you would disagree with the 3 points I bolded. 1 - The Patriots are a pretty closed team, I wasn't there but if they cancelled a interview session with Brady, they also may tell the other players not to talk. Moss still may have been classless in his response, but that they didn't talk may have been basic Patriot policy. 2 - You think judging a guy based on one encounter is ok? (i add this because of your broadbrush "never agree with anything you just wrote" statement) 3 - Seems pretty cut and dry that discussing things here on the Warpath is what this is all about. It's cool to have you on here, but this is a discussion site for Skins fans, and various opinions get expressed all the time, on alot of topics. If someone wanted to email you, I am sure they would have used that available option. and it is a little ironic to say you are not riding your brothers coattails and at the same time offer your email as tanner@chriscooley47.com
The coat tails thing is a bit overblown guys. At least give the dude credit for handling a very entertaining website. I think we can all agree that the Cooley Zone is pretty sweet, and funny. It's really helped Chris' popularity. That said, Tanner I think if you look around this site, you'll find that 99% of the time the members here love the Cooley Zone, and have nothing but good things to say about it and your brother. I understand you may feel personally slighted by a few of the comments you've read today, but try to have thicker skin. Sometimes you're gonna get criticized. Especially if you throw stones in a glass house. |

I can give him credit for that. I just thought the email/defense in the same breath was funny. |

In the situation you blogged about I don't empathize with you at all. I, for one, do not believe in classy or class but for those that do, you showed just as much lack of professional "class" as he did when you introed your interview request with ""I'm Chris Cooley's brother. I just wanted to see if I could get your thoughts on the game. It's is for Chris's website." If you had enough professional "class" you would have just let him know that you were doing it on behalf of thecooleyzone: Chris Cooley's Blog and not unprofessionally cited your relation to your brother. If he treats you the same you can then justify that he lacked a professional acumen or "class". But if you were the first to break professional code than you can't be upset that he followed suit. Let's face it...you caught feelings because a pro athlete cursed at you....hardly writing material much less reading. |

Wasn't hard to find. The dates make sense, and he's the only president of Liberia to to have a 9 year term. |
Re: Randy Moss = no class
All Moss had to say was "Not doing any interviews" or "We don't do interviews in the locker room" or something along those lines.
He didn't and Tanner got frustrated, I'm sure. Moss won't be the last guy to act that way toward Tanner or any reporter. |

Re: Randy Moss = no class
Curious why some people seem so fired up against Tanner?
In the end is this really a big deal? Someone blogs about an athlete who was a jerk to him/her. Wow, shocker. I'm sure there are plenty of blogs out there with very similar accounts of a pro athlete acting like a dick. Personally I just found it entertaining so that's why I linked to it. Why the animosity towards Tanner and the blog? Perhaps a little bit of underlying jealousy? |

He is riding coattails, holding jocks, etc. If Tanner wasn't related to Cooley then Tanner isn't interviewing/blogging. This is all a fact. Also I think the post on Cooley's blog was wrong, like Skinny Tee said. Tanner just got really emotional for no reason. If he wants to interview, get use to it. I freaking worked for my college newspaper. I've interviewed important people (st. governor, katie couric, etc.) and sometimes people are mean, but don't judge based on that one situation. Also Tanner posted on this site to basically tell us he is right and stop this thread. If you go back and read his language he said "don't bitch here, send me an email". He doesn't want bad publicity. Grow up Tanner, this is what happens when you post stuff on a blog. It gets reviewed and critiqued. If anything Tanner should be overjoyed his post is getting this much attention. Finally, to be in situation that Tanner is in, is great.I don't think anyone denies that. Does that mean I am jealous and I would do anything to be in his shoes? No. Just because I think someone is wrong, and I follow that with facts and reasonable arguments does not mean I am jealous. I think that is a bit of stretch Matty. One more note, I also like reading the blog, just FYI Tanner. It is usually good stuff. Chris was a pioneer in blogging as an athlete, and now everyone is doing it. But again, if someone is wrong IMO I will let them know. This is just who I am, and this is a forum. |

Well that wasn't justified. Suggs was never a thug, and some may even suggest a racial implication. But back to your statement, this is a forum with the whole purpose of it being to discuss and analyze. If people didn't argue, spend time on posts, etc. then this wouldn't be the great forum is today. I am sure some of it has to do with mood, but I can tell you I personally just look at things in a very analytically point of view. I try not to post when I am emotional, because emotional posts sound stupid and irrational. |
Re: Randy Moss = no class
All I gotta say is thank you Coach Gibbs for bringing in a core group of great football players that have so much to offer the community on and off the field.
My wife got me a sweet burgundy and gold jersey last Christmas that had the name Cooley on the back of it. The player earned that number, but the person earns the respect. |

I think it's because those people view Tanner's post as bitchy and whining I would assume. Me I don't care either way. Freedom of speech right???? Moss has the right to decline interviews in the way "HE" sees fit, doesn't matter what we think. But, on the flip side Tanner also has the right to post whatever he wants. He didn't make any threats toward Moss or anyone else. Oh and Hooskins, not that it matters but who does want bad press???? |
Re: Randy Moss = no class
yeah it may not be the nicest thing to say to someone, but honestly its in the locker room, its preseason, players dont like anyone in the locker room and now you are a basic nobody trying to do an interview. On top of that, your brother plays for the team that they just beat. Honestly i think the majority of guys would respond this way if approached in a locker room that is a complete stranger asking for an interview.

I'm can't say I'm surprised about the reaction he got in an opponent's locker room. Say what you want about the attitude of Patriot players -- clearly they're hardcore. Belichick has obviously rubbed off on them. It takes balls for Cooley's brother to attempt something like this, and for that I commend him. But yeah, Tanner has to realize not everyone will treat him as if he's at a tea party. That's life dude. |
I was just tossing that out there, otherwise I'm still confused why some, including yourself, are acting so dicky towards him.
The point has been well covered by others, but I think the problem that some of us have with this particular blog post is that Tanner appears at least as "unprofessional" as Randy Moss. When you lead with the line "I'm Chris Cooley's brother, can I get an interview" that is meant to garner access based upon your relation to Chris Cooley. That is fine, I guess, since much of life is about who you know, but as Skinny Tee mentioned, the "professional" thing to do would probably be to identify yourself as representing thecooleyzone.com. "I'm Chris Cooley's brother" implies that you expect some access based upon your identity and why should that mean anything to Randy Moss? Sure he could have responded better, but it is certainly not a surprising response. But the real issue is that none of us should ever have known about that interaction. To go out of your way to Tweet, Facebook, and Blog about it is unnecessary. You had a bad experience with a professional athlete. If you were just another individual and that happened to you then I think you probably could blog all you wanted about it and that would be fine. But you are representing Chris Cooley (as you yourself made clear in the locker room) and you should not be getting into personal pissing matches with other professional athletes on his website. It is just bad policy and, frankly, unprofessional. You don't need to call Randy Moss a "dick" on Facebook or write long diatribes about your experience. It is just not a very mature of professional response. It was a mistake on his part. It is also ironic for him to then come on to this website and say that if you have a problem with it that you should email him directly rather than posting your response in a public forum. And all of that is not a personal attack on Tanner Cooley. It is a critique of this one blog post. That is what HooSkins, SkinnyTee, and others were saying. He made a mistake. He should learn from the experience. |

Also his first response was a little dicky at the end by saying we didn't need to post it on Warpath, just email him with negative responses. I personally don't think I've been dicky while offering my dissenting opinion. |

Moss was a prick and someone blogged about it. The part I find interesting is those that seem to justify Moss being rude. I'm not sure that what Tanner did was so out of line to justify someone treating him like that. Perhaps he could have just brushed it off as no big deal and moved on, but I guess he was thinking it would be something worthwhile to blog about, and based on the amount of discussion it's generated I have think that it was. Also, we're talking about a blog here, not a legit news source. If this was Jason Reid of the WaPo posting stuff like this I would agree it's way out of line. |

I agree with your statement but also think it shows the problem. Moss is a douche bag, no one should be surprised, and he has done this before quite assuredly but reporters don't ever write about it because they can't. If Reid were to write about about a similar incident he'd lose some cred with players making it haredr to do his job. In the end Moss should've just said no interviews and Tanner should have just let it slide. I don't think it's like the Cooley brothers to chill on something like this though. They're not exactly reserved. And they still run the best player site in the league. |

After all I have said, I still think the Pats and Moss could be dicks. I just wouldn't pass judgment after one interview. And for the record I don't like the Pats either, I was rooting for them to lose.

Re: Randy Moss = no class
Poor Tanner Cooley got his feelings hurt. Randy Moss blew him off and wasn't so nice about. Big deal. I don't think we're talking about a Ryan Leaf moment or anything. Get over it and quit sounding like a baby Tanner. Media shouldn't be allowed in the locker rooms anyway.

Re: Randy Moss = no class
Tanner was as much of a part of the press as the rest of the press in the locker room. He has a press pass, so he has as much right to be there as anybody else who has a press pass.
I think Tanner just reacted like any of the rest of us would have reacted. I seriously doubt any of us would say, "wow, that Randy Moss is an intense guy, I'm going to honor his requests by not interviewing him. He's such a chip off the old block." It's easy for us to sit back and pick Tanner apart, because we were not in his position. And, Randy Moss could have easily said, "No thanks man, not doing any interviews." NFL players are role models, like it or not. I think they need to act like it. It's one thing to be all business, it's another thing to come off as a jerk. |

Re: Randy Moss = no class
Good thing Matty is here to defend TC's honor, not sure what he would do without you.
Alot of you guys are getting soft, this is the real world and people generally only give a crap about themselves. Is Moss a jerk? Yes! Did TC need to cry about it on his blog? No! Is this a pretty common response for the media when dealing with a moody player? Probably! Was this thread pathetic about 20 posts ago? Definately yes! |
Re: Randy Moss = no class
I am very glad that the post has generated as much interest as it has. In my earlier comments in this thread I wasn't telling anyone what to say or where to say it. I was just inviting criticism to my personal email. If you have a problem or would like to see something different on thecooleyzone please let us know. It is purely there for your entertainment.
To answer the statements that I was saying I was Cooley's brother prior to asking for the interview, WTF else would I say? If I worked for the Washington Post, I would say "I'm TC from the Washington Post." I was just letting Moss know who I was and where the interview would go. Its how most interviews begin. I work for Chris and write for his site. Also, I never said Moss owed me anything. He didn't. He just didn't need to act the way he did and I stated the facts of what happened because I thought it was blog worthy. Do I expect everyone I try to interview to be open with me? No. Do I expect everyone to be nice? No. But Moss turned this into a topic by saying what he said. Had he said "No comment" or even "No interviews tonight man" that would have been the end of it. |
Re: Randy Moss = no class
Moss has always struck me as a less vocal T.O. He is just as selfish and thinks the world revolves around him. I have never been impressed by Moss.
All of you guys bashing Randy Moss crack me up. He's been nothing but a leader on NE's team. If we make the trade to Oakland and he's wearing burgundy and gold, catches 20+ TD's in one season, takes JC's game to the next level, all of you would be sniffing his jock. Amazing. |
