Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
does anyone have any valid reasoning as to why betts and rock are still on the team. yeah betts had a good 6 games a few years ago and rock can return kicks to the 25, but what will they bring to the table THIS YEAR?
|
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
Ryan Boschetti made the Raiders.
|
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
betts needs to be gone. I can see rock a bit cause he is a special teams leader but some of those young wr's did a good job returning kicks in preseason
Am i the only one who has seen improvement from Justin Tryon?
No. He's no world beater but he is better than last year and better than the Balt game this year. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
Lots of back-up Qbs out there right now. Joey Harrington, first round pick, among them. The move to cut Chase and IR Colt makes sense now.

Yeah ive noticed the same thing. He made some plays with the ball in the air, and has made enough improvements to warrant keeping him IMO. Now Westbrook... |

Rock returns kicks to the 30+ and he tackles very well on punt/ kick coverage. My guess is he will do all that again this year. Betts is a good back up to Portis. My guess is he will continue to do that this year too. Ohh and Betts should be getting more carries this year as our 3rd down back. |

Batiste plays G only. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
Marcus Mason runs like he knows the playbook very well. He should, since he's been on the PS. I am really happy for him.

Is that somthing you look forward to? when weast the last time rock crossed the 50, i'm not saying he isen't a decent returner but to keep five back just to have him a special teams is a strech. and as far as betts on third down, thats the last thing i wanna see, remeber betts not being sable to get in in the endzone from the 1 last year and getting stuffed from the two in preseason this year. oh and have you ever seen him pass block? We should have portis followed by mason/aldrige and have doersey on special teams. All we have is the same mediocre o from last year. hopefully kelly and mitchell will step up |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
with betts
as our third down back thank god we got a good punter |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
Jeff Garcia is available fresh from the Raiders

But yes getting past the 20 on nearly every kickoff is a good thing. |

I could see Garcia coming here if we get in pinch with the Qb situation.

Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
So I guess the final roster is as follows
QB - Campbell, Collins RB - Portis, Betts, Mason, Cartwright FB - Sellers TE - Cooley, Davis, Yoder WR - Moss, Kelly, Thomas, Mitchell, ARE LT - Samuals, Batiste LG - Dockery, Rhinehart C- Rabach, Montgomery RG - Thomas, E. Williams RT - Heyer, M. Williams DT - Haynesworth, Griffin, Golston, Montgomery DE - Daniels, Carter, Wynn, Jarmon, Alexander OLB - Orakpo, McIntosh, Wilson MLB - Fletcher, Blades, Henson CB - Rogers, Hall, Smoot, Barnes, Tryon, Westbrook SS - Horton, Doughty FS - Landry, Moore K - Shuisam P - Smith LS - Albright I'm guessing the practice squad will include the following C. Daniels (QB), D. Young (LB), C Glenn (LB), E. Williams (FB), Aldrige or Dorsey (RB's), R Jackson (DE assuming he's eligable), Edit: Forgot Antonio Dixon (DT). |

Rob Jackson was on the roster the entire season last year so he might not be eligible. |

DT Anthony Dixon will fill the last PS spot |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
So Wynn makes the team? You can argue all night long about Dorsey, Aldridge, and Mason, but Wynn? Come on, you got to be effing kidding me? He's got one good year left, if that?
What the hell are they planning to do with the tackle position? You've got Heyer backing up Samuels, and Batiste backing up Heyer, and then Mike Williams? Get the eff out here. I forsee Yoder being on the O-line in week 13. They Cut Jansen for someone else that can't pass block? At least Jansen had it at one point. Mike Williams was a bust from jump street. Why are they keeping four running backs? What are they trying to do, milk Betts and Rock one more year until Mason can take over? So what happens when Soup and Collins go down, ARE? Well, they get paid the big bucks to make these decisions. Hopefully they know what they're doing. I just can't see it. Pissed that Dixon, Buzbee, and Bridges didn't make the squad. Mike Williams, get the eff out of here. There's only one Magic Mike around here and he's a lawyer. |

Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
4 Running Backs? Why do we need 4 Running backs? I'm thinking we should of cut Betts or Cartwright and keep our 2009 pick in Williams-FB. Maybe, we can use Betts as some solid trade bait? He could possibly go to someone for some more solid depth at O-line?
I just think I would rather have Jackson on, or Chase Daniel more then 4 running backs. I mean, CP had 350+ carries last year, and I know he's not going to get that many this year, but he will try. I jsut don't see all four of them being as productive as they can be. Rock does a good job on special teams, but I like Thomas back there better. He seemed quicker, and gave us that big play potential. I guess you can't cut another ST player since we already got rid of 3 before the preseason. Meh.. 4 RB's is a waste. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
I dont see why we keep Westbrook, is he really gonna make it on the field? If Tryon, Barnes, or Westbrook are seeing time anywhere other than special teams, we are in trouble.
|
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
Special teams would die if Rock left.
Betts still has some vet savvy that Mason doesn't. He also is a good checkdown back as he has good hands. Mason may be a '4th quarter back' to run down the clock so CP doesn't have to shoulder that load. I think Zorn still has jitters about Betts after that Seattle game last season. |

Westbrook is there because of uncertainty on Carlos Rogers. They pretty much said that is why we carry 2 QBs and 6 CBs. My only two surprises were Robert Thomas and Jeremy Bridges. I would have never expected D'Anthony Batiste over Bridges. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
I have BIG concerns with our O-line depth. I can't believe Mike Williams and Edwin Williams both made the team over Bridges. And Batiste? Um, ok.

i don't think batiste got cut and i bet bridges will be on the practice squad. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
I think I am the only one here who still likes Mike Williams for the long run. I didn't expect him to be starting 1st game, or even to be ready to. But he has shown perseverance, he is definitely a power blocker, and assuming he is active on game days, I could see them putting him in on short yardage situations. I think he is going to get to where he is a reliable G/RT backup.
Batiste??? That on the other hand was discouraging. As is the fact that I still have no idea who will back up Samuels for the few games he most likely will be out this year. I don't like having Heyer be the plan for backing him up. |

Batiste didn't get cut (he should have, he won't be active for 1 game) Bridges is not eligible for the practice squad. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
I'm all for it if we can sign Tony Pashos to a one-year deal. The thought of D'Anthony starting a game for us should anything happen to Samuals or Heyer scares me.

yeah, I didn't understand that one, maybe PS eligibility mattered? |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
we should make a poll saying "Do you think the Redskins bring in a Vet, like a Tony Pashos, Levi Jones, Patrick Surtain, Mike McKenzie? And Cut one of these guys that shouldn't of made the team, like Batiste, Wynn, Westbrook, Tryon?"
|
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
Batiste goes if Pashos or Jones comes in. Pashos was cut basically because he would not renegotiate his 4.3million salary, and he is a RT, we need a LT backup. So he is probably not the answer. LJ will sign somewhere soon, I believe. Why would you sit out a year???
Wynn is clearly here, if they wanted a different guy we had them on the squad (Jackson) I think Westbrook and Tryon are here also, we have trained them in our system and the FO isn't going to pull someone else in that got cut from someone else. |
Re: Redskins final cutdown thread
BTW the fact that we have PJ5 Avatars at this point is hysterical.

How Can Bridges be on the practice squad when he is a 7 or 8 year league veteran? |
