I think Del Rio would be a great choice, though it seems like ownership in Jacksonville will probably be convinced to keep him.
I have mixed feelings about Gray staying as DC. It would feel to me like Snyder is just trying to appease those (players mainly) who were upset when Williams was sent packing. Perry Fewell could be a sleeper
The former lead singer for Jane's addiction? Wow. If Gray is hired as D.C., all it means is that was his payment for agreeing to a sham interview and making a mockery of the rooney rule and slapping the face of every minority assistant coach in the league. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Are we even looking at Romeo? I also read somewhere that John Fox has been given the opportunity to opp out his final year in Carolina. Could he be on our radar as a DC?
i highly doubt that John Fox would chose to leave his head coaching job to be a defensive coordinator for another team. If fox opts out of his contract, it'll be for another HC job somewhere - and one that would offer him a multi-year contract. Even if carolina decided to fire fox so they could go after Cowher, Fox would most certainly become the #1 HC prospect out there. unless there were no other vacancies, i can't see him becomming a coordinator. he'd actually probably decide to just sit out a year before being a DC. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
I think the Texans will sign Denvers off line coach{Rick Dennison } today.I was hoping we would sign him.Alex Gibbs is too old and I think hes going to retire anyway
|
Re: Coaching Staff update
^BHC I'm not so sure about that one... if I can paid like a HC to coach here for a season, and not have the responsibilities to focus on the whole team only the defense, then have my choice of teams next year to coach why not?

The Giants had what looked like on paper the best d-line in the NFL by far going into the season. I had them picked to win the division with their D, like many others. That didn't end well. If Coughlin was in charge of the defense, I don't trust him. They did have some injuries on D, but it was a massive failure. |

so whats your nick name then? would you support the decision to make lil bow wow our defensive coordinator? Or Mike Martz? Or how about we just fire Bruce Allen and turn the franchise over to Matt Millen? Would you "support" those moves and be positive about them? I doubt it. I feel the same way about Jerry Gray. If Romeo Crennel is hired, will you criticize me for being "negative" about Jerry Gray? I don't Jerry Gray as our DC. Its an opinion. Partly because he wouldn't be earing the job on his own merit, but rather because it was his reward for being a "company man" and partly because he's nowhere near being the best candidate for the job. |
If Coughlin doesn't survive in NY, Fox could be a possibility there.
I agree, although I think Coughlin is staying. I have a nagging feeling that Cowher ends up in New York, whether its in 2010 or 2011. As far as Fox goes, I don't get why Carolina has cooled on him. Living in NC, i can say that most panthers fans I know are happy with Fox (unless he were replaced by Cowher). The panthers were 12-4 last year, had a bye week, and lost to the NFC Champions. They really struggled with injuries this year, yet managed to finish 8-8, handily being teams that were fighting for playoff spots in the final weeks of the game. If Carolina can't land Cowher, I don't think they'll find a better head coach out there than Fox. |

Buster, "Shanahan + Redskins = Lombardi"?
Are you trying to say that Shanahan is going to drop dead one year after coming out of retirement b/c of the stresses of coaching the Washington Redskins? J/k, I really do hope that whatever formula for coaching Shanahan puts together, it will be successful. Ultimately though, I think his success will be determined by the success of his (and Bruce Allen's) picks. |

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Broncos will allow Turner to meet with the Redskins, and an interview is expected to occur this week.

Thats interesting. So whats with the whole "no you can't interview him" crap. Snyder have to pull some strings and talk to Denver's owner who put the HC in check? |
Re: Coaching Staff update
If they pick up Dennison it will make me mad. It seems like they are picking up all the OL coach's that were used in Denver. Well I guess that just two. Alex Gibbs and Dennison. Any chance Houston lets A.Gibbs go and he comes to the Skins for 1 or 2 yrs. I know he's old but we need someone who can teach the zone/cut blocking scheme. Both Gibbs and Dennison know what Shanahan wants and knows how to get it done.

I still say we should hire Ray Brown. [IMG]http://prod.static.bills.clubs.nfl.com/assets/images/imported/BUF/photos/coachcards09/brown_r_coachcard.jpg[/IMG] Of course this is how most of you will remember him. |

Apparently he's to the Bronco's what Joe Bugel is to the Redskins. Many people credit him with Denver's dominance in the running game. |

That's cool anything or anybody that can help change this franchise around I'm all for it. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Meanwhile, Zorn might go to Chicago as the QB coach or even offensive coordinator! I was surprised when I heard that on the radio.
Ray Brown would be good to coach the offensive line, but how about hiring some other ex Redskins, too, like Grimm and Bostic. In fact, I'd hire all of the Hogs to replace Bugel, who coached a couple of years too long. Yes, call me Mr. Loyalty! |

Re: Coaching Staff update
Ok is there a difference between Associate HC and Assistant HC? I kinda figured we would call Kyle Shanahan Assistant HC/OC. If it's basically the same thing but worded differently then I guess Kyle made some concessions in order to get Turner. I know Houston has 2 Assistant HC's so I guess we could try and name all our coach's Assistant or Associate HC's. :)

I think that associate is above assistant.. like when Caldwell in Indy got assistant hc and then associate hc I think it's just a little title boost to justify something like more money.. or more likely to transfer to a larger role within or outside of the organization (like to a head coaching role or something) I'm sure that somebody can come up with a better technical definition |

well Turner is a RB coach at the moment as opposed to an OL coach Dennison is the OL coach |
Re: Coaching Staff update
well Turner is a RB coach at the moment as opposed to an OL coach
Dennison is the OL coach
I understand that. What I was saying was that the reputation that Bugel had for developing OL is similar to the prestige Turner had for developing running backs in Denver. In fact from most of the stuff I've read from both fans and media pundits was geared towards Turner getting the majority of the credit for the quality of Denver's running game. |
Re: Coaching Staff update
Do we still have a shot at getting dennison? If we don't get him and Buges retires, then what do we do next?

If the team retains stan hixon, i'll be very angry. If we trade a draft pick for Brandon Marshall, i'll be even angrier. If we retain Clinton Portis, you will want to avoid reading my posts for atleast 3 months. I'm honestly sick of our "classic" unis. Its time for a change and a more modern look I understand why Shanahan wants turner, but the dude's 60 and we need some younger coaches. |

I think I like Turner though, and the uniform issue I could go old school again with either the Lumbardi looking "R" or the Arrow. Unless someone comes up with a classy modern look. |

i bet we will have a ton, but thats mostly because you have to have a different title or something when you make a coaching move from team to team while still under contract, or something along thoose lines, but don't quote me on that |
