Yeah F what he wants... we have to make moves that make the most sense for the team.
If Dunta Robinson signs with us, there's a good chance we'll get some offers for Rogers from teams who need a CB. There simply won't be anyone else out there worth looking at in the free agent market and it appears to be a very weak draft for CBs. I think if someone offers us a 4th, we'd take it.
I'm with you there. I also think with such a weak free agent class, we may be able to get a late 2nd or early 3rd for Los.

That's what i'd be hoping for, although the draft is very deep (well, at pretty much every position but CB, WR, and QB), so that may make teams somewhat reluctant to give up picks. i would be thrilled if we unloaded him for a high 3rd or a starting-caliber offensive guard or tackle.
carlos is our best corner imo. he had a great year 2 years ago, this past year it seems no one was happy with what blache was doing.

carlos said all they did was man and never changed. you play enough man to man, any corner is going to get beat if the qb has time.
I found it rather amusing he would make a statement like that. Obviously he does not know the history of the position he plays. Man to man, bump and run was a CB's game until the rules changed. His game would be obsolete if he were playing during the time when CB's were football players as opposed to just being cover guys. Zone defenses were virtually unheard until the forward pass became such a formidable weapon. It's only natural if you can't cover consistently in man to man you would prefer to play zone.

Carlos may just be doing what his agent is telling him. I guarantee if he hit the open market he would make more than 1.5 million this year. They probably feel like creating a stir makes it more likely that he gets let go.

I am curious to see how the new leadership handles this.

i hope so, robinson is younger/more talented. get carlos "crybaby" rogers outta here (on our terms of course).

Correct me if I am wrong here. But Brick Mittens looked like he was playing zone 90% of the time especially when he got burnt. Either he is confused or gives up as soon as the WR has a step on him. When he is burned its always really bad like somone else should have been picking up the coverage.

I hope we can get at least a third for him, but I just don't think he has shown enough to get that. You got benched cause you stunk it up and then want a payday? Bye #22.

Well I would like Robinson, but seems like he has not been a happy team player in Houston either.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

The reality is that its unlikely anyone will give us anything for Rogers,or any of our other restricted free agents. only a handful of RFAs move every year, and the ones that do are generally studs. Why would anyone want to give up a draft pick for a mediocre-to-above average player that is only under contract for one more year? RFAs only move when they're solid, proven players and the team is willing to give them a new, long-term contract upon signing them.

Realistically, Jason Campbell is the player most likely to move. He's done more good in the league than Rogers and would likely be open to signing a 3-year deal with a new team if it garaunteed him a starting job.

I heard on the NFLN last night that they think there will be a couple of trades for the RFAs due to the fact that the UFA talent is not that great. Now a 1st or 2nd is def not possible, but anything beneath that, I would say that it may be.

I hope youre right. The Browns need QB and CB help... badly. And they have 11 picks. I bet we could ship both of them to cleaveland for their 2nd and one of their 5th round picks. thats pure speculation of course.

Poor Rogers...I feel his pain. Don't worry brother, you're too talented for someone not to want to give up a first rounder and give you millions of dollars more.

Agreed. I have no sympathy for these players. It's a new day in Redskin land.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

I think the tender gives the Redskins a little wiggle room to negotiate here. At least they're not approaching the table and letting the other team set the price; the perceived value has already been set by the Redskins in this instance. And as others have stated, just because we've tendered Rogers doesn't mean he won't eventually get traded.

Who knows, we might see the Auburn express (Campbell and Rogers) get packaged together, shipped out, and we draft Sam Bradford straight up. I think the Redskins have an ace up their sleeve for sure.

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

Ehhhhh, to be truthful.........I dont think letting Rogers go for a 3rd rounder is actually that sound of a decision. 1st round pick, yes, gotta take that. But weighing the VIABLE options at starting CB, and given that in coverage, the guy is in the top half of the Leagues CB's, and he IS talented, knowing the extreme shortage of good cover guys out in FA this year, I just dont know. You guys definitely calling 'los a bust are I think being a bit too critical. Not everyone is Deion Sanders or Darrell Green or Chap Bailey. The guys hands suck, no question. But I definitely think, given the current FA pickings for DB's, we could get a second rounder for hi, or he could be part of a nice package deal to bring a nice RFA in a trade.

Really, give him up for a third????? Id wager over half the teams in the league would take that deal. We tendered 'los with a 1st round tender, and that in my eyes at least is a very feasible tender. We actually could end up getting that. But not for a 3rd. aybe a 3rd AND 4th, but definitely not for just one of those.

you do realize that Carlos Rogers will be an unrestricted free agent next year, right? And that (as of right now) we have no desire to keep him and he has absolutely no desire to stay?

Mechanix544 03-04-2010 03:23 PM

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

So, What is the source that we have no desire to keep him? I havent heard that.......

Re: Rogers tendered-whines about it

Are you saying that because we didnt offer the highest tender for him, that we want to part ways?? If that is all you are going on, I think you are just plain wrong, and you are assuming too much.

Good insight. That almost gives us an incentive to lock Robinson up even if we overpay, because it allows us to 1) discard a lesser player w/ an piss-poor attitude 2) probably get more compensation for Rogers than we would otherwise. I like it.

If we don't get Robinson (he's likely headed to Atlanta), we could get Lito Sheppard or Leigh Bodden for cheaper. As SS said, I'd like to see Barnes or Tryon getting more opportunities. And I would love to get a 2nd or 3rd for Rogers.
