That's about what I expected and i would be happy to get a 5th. Teams generally don't trade high draft picks for older players.
I'll take 3 years of production over a guy that might never crack the starting roster |
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
I'm sure I heard JLC say on NFLN that Haslett has no experience running the 3-4 defense. That would concern me if that's true.

He was d-coordinator for Pittsburgh a few years ago..I'm pretty sure they played the 3-4. |
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
I heard the same thing, but its Jlac so he doesn't know that much, because Haslett does have experience with the 3-4 back in the late 1990's with Pittsburgh.
|
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Thanks for clearing that up Ruh' and Cult'. JLC is so weak on NFLN. How did he get that gig?
|
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Anyone besides me remember when Haslett played linebacker for the Buffalo Bills? LOL I know someone else remembers when he played. Dmek? 70CHip...c'mon guys!
By the way, he was damn good too. |
I don't think we should be looking at a Carter trade and a Carriker trade as necessarily being one and the same. Though I believe Carter is more likely to go than Carriker is to arrive. Pure speculation though
Could have sworn he had waived that no trade clause, guess I was wrong.
So do you think Mark Bulger and Carriker could come here as a part of a larger deal? |

Hadn't really thought about Bulger. I'd be surprised |
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
I do need to point out that defensive ends/olb types still put their hands in the dirt more than half the time even in 3-4 alignments. Teams play a lot of 3 WR sets these days, and nickel defenses generally (but not necessarily) mean four lineman.
If Carter became exclusively a nickle package player, he'd still be a good bet for 5-6 sacks. And at what cost would it be worth it to give that away on the market and replace him with a 2-3 sack replacement player (Rob Jackson?) in the same role? Certainly, we'd have to get something valuable, third round or better, to do that trade. |
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Heres a thought, and just pure speculation. Maybe its a draft strategy.
It could be possible that the Redskins are just trying to discern whether or not the Rams take Bradford or Suh with that first pick. They could be dangling a carrot, feigning interest in Carriker. If the Rams open serious discussions, it could be a strong indication that St Louis intends to select Suh with the first pick. If they show no interests in trade discussions, it cold indicate that they will take Bradford. Total speculation on my part, but it is an interesting way to get the other guy to "show his hand". That way the Redskins draft strategy in the first round could be worked on.
definitely could be part of the game, good post |

really makes me wonder why we're running it like is that decision coming from above him? I'm pretty sure that that could be argued |
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Ok, how crazy does this senario sound. Andre Carter, JC, next years #1pick, for Adam Carriker and swap this years first round draft choice and there 2nd round pick in 2011.
We Get: Sam Bradford Adam Carriker 2011 2nd round pick(Rams) They Get: Our #1 Pick 2010 Our #1 Pick 2011 Andre Carter Jason Campbell If that is not enough, I would throw in Cooley. Is this crazy? |

You would do all that just because you think he's the next Peyton Manning? Thinking and knowing are two different things, and there is no way of knowing if this is true. I think Bradford is going to be great, or at least very good, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. |

Thats why I only swapped next years first for there second and we get carriker. I think in the end the rams are still getting ripped off in my deal. Hell, with JC at the helm that 2nd will be a top 3 pick again. |

And that said quarterback basically wore out his welcome with his old club first. Brees was a FA with low perceived value on the market then because of injury and because San Diego was done with him. Far cry from Peyton-freaking-I'm-a-guaranteed-lock-to-go-#1-or#2-Manning. Manning was like the sun. You COULDN'T miss him. Montana and Brady were diamonds in the rough in which the former had someone who had a great eye for talent and the latter was a 6th rounder who got his lucky break and worked his arse off to get where he was today. Now those two are more like Brees, except they had success with their first teams. |

The Cutler trade was idiotic. Thank goodness the Bears saved us from ourselves. Every person in Bears management is fighting for their job now because of that deal. |

Exactly, they were done with him because Marty decided to go send him out in a meaningless game and risk injury to Brees. As it turned out, it was extremely severe and they let him go. Now, I wonder which FA QB's this year still have a high ceiling like that? Hmm...yep..no one on the market this year. Sexy Rexy, Busted Knee Daunte, and a bunch of other ineffective ones. |
Re: JLC: Redskins Interested in Adam Carriker
Mark Bulger, Adam Carriker, and a third for Andre Carter and Jason Campbell.

The oppurtunity cost of getting Cutler turned out to be Orakpo. Basically, a QB negator vs. a QB. Now, even with the heightened importance of the QB position, most Super Bowl winning teams have other cornerstones besides a QB. Namely, an above-average to elite pass rusher, a solid O-line, at least one playmaker in the secondary and linebacking corps, special teams, and a coach who can coach. Had Cutler come here, we would have still been stuck with incompetent Zorn, a soft defense that's about as archaic and predictable as one could get, and a shitty running game that in turn leads into a one-dimensional and ineffective offense. |

Still there's no tell what the outcome would have been. Cutler playing behind our shitty line would probably have been no good (definitely would have thrown more INTs). And let's say he would have played decently, now we would be one Pro Bowler LB short (Orakpo) and one CB (Barnes). |

I think he would have had less INTs because he would have been on his back twice as much. We also would have been without the 4th pick this year. Like I said, the Cutler deal was idiotic. |
