Re: Annual Predict the Final Roster Thread: 2010 Version

Well intially we have 4 players with OT experience on the team.

Brown, T Williams, A Hicks, S Heyer.

Capers has not shown much more than starting this season on the practice squad. Unfortunately, but at the same time if the coaches have not seen much in him than niether has the rest of the league to give him a shot on thier PS or roster.

Also on your Rosters. You should include Blades, Riley, McIntosh, Fletcher, and Henson as our ILBs. I know it is five but we have one who is has some OLB expirience. Maybe I am wrong thier, but keeping those 5 lbs plus the four OLBs. Blades and Henson will be SP players and see a little live snaps.

Re: Annual Predict the Final Roster Thread: 2010 Version

Many believe banks doesn't make the roster, but put me in the minority of hoping this guy does make it.

I really like this kid and his explosiveness. Yes,his fumbles is really a concern, but this guy is just too flat out dangerous to let go imo...And I guarentee you..if he goes to the practive squad...He's gone! might as well forget about him.

The kid has Devin Hester/Donte Hall ability and also has fumbling issues. But he doesn't play tentative or scared and the guy probably should..lol

Did you see his screen pass that he ripped down the sideline? I don't know how...But you HAVE to find a way to keep him on this 53 man roster...
Keep him inactive on that 53 man roster, but you have to keep him on the team.

As I said before...you put him on the practice squad, you might as well release him..cause he won't last. I'm sure a team like the Rams or so will find a place for him.
We'll regret it!! That I can tell ya...

As far as the other players...It's going to be VERY interesting who makes this team.

Got to keep Selvish Capers! he was the only guy not letting his guy cave in the O-line to bartel..lol
Awesome draft pick!

I think Trrence Austin makes himself hard to cut. I think he might make the team.

Honestly..I would keep both Banks and Austin and trade/cut Devin Thomas...He just does NOT impress me at all!

Would love to have Moss,Galloway,Armstrong,Austin and Banks I would keep these 5 for sure!!
Maybe add a 6th in F/A like a T.J. or so who could be our #2 or #3...
I would definately keep 6 WR's since that seems to be the big question on this team anyways...IMO
Not to mention Moss has a tendency to get injured and galloway is old.

beck...I know Shanny likes the kid and probably sees something I don't...Obviously with extension.
Count me in the group who's not impressed at all...
I can live with the fact of him being the #3...

But there was honestly no difference in skillset when comparing him to Bartell...Honestly..Bartel looked better at times....

bartels problem is his pocket awareness...Happy feet.
but overall talent..bartell looks no worse to me than beck imo...

if they cut beck today and signed bartel to an extension....I would be like...

OK...

Wilson plays hard, but his continous personal foul calls are getting just a little old.
i like him...but this guy is a defensive killer to us at times!
If he did this every blue moon..no big deal.
But it's all the damn time!!!
seriously..lol
He's almost a liability...

Other than that..nobody really stood out to me...
I noticed tryon got a pick...
I truly had no idea this guy could do anything that could be fathomed or considered a good play in our backfield..lol

Seriously..I need 5 more preseason games to evaluate this guy...lol
Sorry..just not a fan of him

Yeah...he's electric and would be just awesome to have if we could trust him not to fumble.
He's put the ball on the ground what 4 times this preseason? That just can't happen. I see no way he makes the team when I think of it that way.

*OK, I really don't expect us to sign Mitchell... but I think Galloway will be on the team after the 53 man roster is released and then released when we pick up a WR cut by another team. In all likelyhood, we pick up a WR cut by the Texans or Broncos who is familiar with a shanahan offense or possibly even Houshmandzadeh or Crayton, both of whom may be released.

**If Horton makes the team, its as the 53rd player. If we decide to go with 7DL, 6CB, or 6 WR, he's gone.

Take away the fumbles and the kid would probably be a lock. Another muff last night makes him a big concern for me. If you can't be trusted to at least field a clean punt 99% of the time, you're not going to have a job for very long.

Re: Annual Predict the Final Roster Thread: 2010 Version

Someone mentioned this on the Monday Morning QB show on ESPN 980, and it's a good point: Reed Doughty appears to be relatively un-athletic and allows the pass to be completed more than he breaks the pass up. But there doesn't seem to be much debate that he'll be lining up next to Landry at the free safety position -- and that should be fairly alarming for anyone concerned about pass defense.

If opponents start lighting it up through the air against us, I'd be willing to bet Doughty will be the primary target.

Re: Annual Predict the Final Roster Thread: 2010 Version

Thanks for pointing that out. I copied Dirtbag's roster to use as a template and forgot to remove Banks. There's no way Banks makes the team. Even if he weren't too small to have an NFL career longer than 3 seasons, he puts the ball on the ground far too often. I think he's only got a 50/50 shot of making our practice squad. If anyone on the bubble played their way off the team last night, it was Banks. It won't be a tough decision for Shanahan.

Of course my picks (if I made them early in the season are wrong so now the cardinal game is over I'm going to make my prediction...

Offense: 25
QB: McNabb, Grossman, Beck
RB: Portis, Johnson, Packer, Torian Practice Squad: K.Williams
FB: Sellers
WR: Moss, Galloway, Armstrong, Thomas, Austin Practice Squad: Banks IR Furrey, Kelly
TE: Davis, Cooley, Vickers PS: Paulsen
LT: Williams, Heyer
LG: Dockery, Lictensteiger
C: Rabach, Montgomery PS: Cook
RG: Hicks, Rinehart
RT: Brown, PS: Capers

Defense: 25
DE: Haynesworth, Holliday
NT: Kemo, Golston
DE: Carriker, Daniels, Jarmon
OLB: Alexander, Orakpo, Carter, Wilson,
ILB: Rocky, Fletcher, Blades, Riley IR: Henson

Special Teamers 3

Possible Wildcard: Houshmandzadeh became available for trade I'd imagine we'd give them Horton or Doughty because they need safety help.

Some hard choices to be made.

On offense it will come down to 9 OL, 4 RB or 6 WR
On defense the CB position is a little wide open. I can see a serious battle for the 4th and 5th CB spots with Barnes being the loser. I possible have to many LBs but who knows?

Yeah when I was just putting together my roster it was plain as day that without the ball security issues he is a complete and utter lock. He blew it. I think he actually played his way off the team putting the ball on the ground twice last night. Maybe they PS him but I gotta think another team picks him up.

So I used the template from FRPLG with a few tweaks.

Parker is gone, Williams makes the team.

I still think Banks makes it as the 6th WR. Buchanon will be the primary PR and Thomas the primary KR. Banks will be inactive most weeks but in a pinch can be activated and play but I don't see him being exposed to the practice squad with what he's put on tape thus far.

I cut Jarmon which is a huge waste of a pick IMO at this point. He's to slow to be a LB and not stout enough to be a DE. He's a much better 4-3 fit but trying to hold and trade him will just be a waste of a roster spot.

I put Barnes on the team. I think his value is in being able to be physical in blitz packages as well as playing on ST.

I also put Bryant on the DL because he's shown more than Kemo to this point and released Blades. I just don't see him as good of a fit anymore and he's missed a lot of tackles in the preseason. Riley and Henson are solid backups in those spots.

Only thing I think is dead wrong is at safety. Carter is making the team. With Moore out we'll have 5 safeties and Carter is the only real option for the 4th safety right now.

Not that I know of...I assumed it was only a mild sprain and he would be fine. Obviously if he going to miss extended time it changes things up quite a bit. He probably isn't replaced by anybody but then we probably keep an extra OL or WR.

Yeah and even if we picked up someone tomorrow it's like that guy is going to be up to speed with things for a while, unless he played under either one of the Shanahans before.

Galloway is likely to be here for a while.

Think Terence Austin is the guy who solidified that spot last night.

Banks/Thomas is a decision to make. Could keep both, then just three RBs and 8 Lineman. But I'm not sure we'd be able to use both.

Larry Johnson appears safe. Torain looks like the odd man out.

I get where your coming from but Galloway is not a #2 receiver himself. He hasn't done jack in the preseason and, as was discussed on ESPN980 this morning, the only 38 year old receiver to ever have anything even approaching success is Jerry Rice. If we consider history at all, Galloway won't break 20 catches or 200 yards the entire season. Start Devin Thomas or Armstrong instead of Galloway. The new guy we pick up will truly be the #5 receiver until he learns the offense.

I don't see how the team would be chosing between Banks and Thomas. Theyre completely different types of receivers and while Thomas secured his spot last night, Banks played his way out of a job. The true competitions, if there ever were any, were between Kelly/Thomas and Banks/Austin. Right now, Matt Leinhart has a better shot of making the team than Brandon Banks does.

He played like a second round pick receiver last year, especially during the Saints game. He still has a lot of potential, and between him and Banks, I'm cutting Banks because he so two-sided of a player.

Considering our current group of WRs, regardless of where he was taken yes he makes the team. I really don't see what he's done, or hasn't done this preseason, to be cut. And I'm certainly not keeping Banks over him.
It's a concern no doubt but you'd hate to expose him on the practice squad and then see him lighting it up somewhere once he gets past this bout of fumblitis.
That's the chance you take. I'd rather roll the dice and put him on the PS than use a roster spot on him when he can't be trusted to hold on to the ball yet.

I don't think he's that huge of a risk to be signed to someone's active roster considering his size and current fumble issues.
They are completely different types of players, you'd be correct on that, but they would have the same playing time in the same situations on the team, which is why it makes little sense to keep both.

Really, I don't think Thomas has done anything in the preseason to either get himself cut or to make the team. I think this is more about Banks. Does Shanahan want to employ a 5th/6th WR whose primary value is that he's blindingly fast? Or does he push the specialist to the practice squad to take the more complete player, Thomas.

The biggest thing that came from last nights game was that the third option, keeping both and cutting Austin, is not much of a choice. Austin is now at least as much of a lock as Galloway, and probably more. Austin could be our no. 3 WR as soon as next year.
