Ross wasn't going to give us anything, Yi's only got one year left on his contract, and we got $3 million in cash from the Nets. Yi's got some skill for a big, and just needs to show more toughness. I also like how he gives the Wiz a bridge to market themselves (particularly Wall) in China. I think Yi's nationality is what sealed the deal here. |

I most definetely approve of this move. Big men that can shoot are always welcome as far as I'm concerned. Also Yi seems like a great fit for Flips system which emphasizes mid range shots. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Obviously they have a plan that covers the long term. I like how they realized they couldn't be major players in the free agent market so they decided to capitalize on the freedom that realization could bring.

The Wizards seem to be the one team helping out everyone else with their salary cap in this FA flurry... but the more I thought about it, the more I see another angle. There's only so many top flight FAs to go around... Lebron, Wade, Bosh (top tier), then JJ-Amare-Boozer. Two, if not all three, of the top guys are going to end up playing together imo. If that happens, you're left with three or four teams who have all this cap space with the remaining FAs to sign. They're going to outbid each other, grossly overpaying for guys like Rudy Gay. The Wiz are anticipating the FA fallout and a new CBA in a year. Meanwhile, stockpile players that are young, athletic, low-risk and short term... while being in a position of strength in two or three seasons when the other teams (who we 'helped' now) inevitably feel the bite from these bloated contracts. |

Jianlian is a major injury risk, but we did not give up a lot to get him. He has potential, but it hasn't worked out for him yet.

I think Memphis was going to be in the market for Outlaw... but Gay is probably resigning with the Grizz. He'll fit with the uptempo system in Washington. If more and more guys re-sign with their teams, all of the other teams that positioned themselves for cap space this offseason are going to overpay severely for lesser talent. Many of those teams are the east, so that helps us in the long run. |

With Gay staying in Memphis though, that might free up Ronnie Brewer |

Brewer I like a lot. Excellent defender from the wing and is athletic enough to keep up on offense in transition. Wouldn't sign him for his outside shot, however. For the price he'll probably command in this market, not sure the Wiz will have enough. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Isn't there some sort of rule against Team Trinity? That has to violate some sort of anti-trust laws. Hopefully they don't get Bosh/Wade/Lebron on the same team and if they do then hopefully the lack of role players will result in the teams downfall. However finding two or three guys to score 20 points shouldn't be to hard with Lebron, Wade, and Bosh possibly putting up 86 points a night (24+29+33 ppg).

Thankfully, I don't think this is going to happen. D-Wade's staying in Miami and I don't think Lebron's going there... Plus, Amare stated that Riley told him he, Lebron and Wade could play together for 15/year. Each would be losing nearly 5/year to play with each other and over the course of a four or five year contract, that would be too much of a loss for any of those guys (even with endorsements). I think Bosh is the only sure thing leaving his team, either outright or S&T. I know he'd like to play with Lebron, but what he's doing in this circus is anyone's guess. I could see him alongside Wade in Miami, but they're both going to want close to max money (leaving no room for a third star). Miami should try to find a taker for Beasley, but I'm not sure anyone's biting. |

the more superstars on one team the lower the PPG will go most likely |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
There are some absolutely stupid contracts being offered today. Darko, Amir Johnson and Rudy Gay are getting paid. Joe Johnson's max offer has just let the Wiz off the hook for worst contract of the past few seasons... Atlanta's going to be crippled for five or six seasons.
Mike Miller's probably getting around 7 million in this market. |
the more superstars on one team the lower the PPG will go most likely
I know but at the very least you're looking at 60 ppg between the three of them. So if you're a defensive team like the Celtics then you just need a few guys that can put up 20 or 30 ppg combined. If you want a little more offense then all you need is 30 or 40 which between 8 guys shouldn't be that hard, even if you are talking about a group of min contract players. |

Well, I was off by a million- but that's a solid contract for Mike. The dude is pretty versatile and he's the perfect fit in the triangle. I'm glad he's finally going to a team with a chance to win now (even though I hate the Lakers). |

He won't wear no. 6 because that's the number LeBron is going to wear no. 6 this year and when LeBron signs with the Knicks and Arenas is traded o NY in a deal for Curry's contract he'd have to switch numbers again :)

Mentioned in another thread that Randy Foye has signed with the Clippers and Miller is weighing options from a few teams (among them Miami and New York) so that trade essentially netted us nothing but some dollars to spend on...Josh Childress?

21 points and 13 boards for JaVale tonight and Wall with 24 points and 8 assists, 8 turnovers as well though. Want to see him cut back on the turnovers

Yeah he was trying to set people up way to much and would get stuck in the air with nowhere to pass too, I'm sure he'll be fine though. Definitely looked good and kid is FAST.

Wall is smooth- still has to play with more control (TOs are high), but the guy is the truth. His passing ability is legit.
Booker is a beast- I see why the FO secured him early. |

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
It's just the summer league, but I like what I've seen so far from the Wiz. Wall's decision making will improve with time, but I like his intensity and passing, most of all I'm impressed by his improved mid-range jumper. When he dribble penetrates there are always 2-3 players open for jump shots. Most hopeful that Javale will be better, and I like that he has put on muscle and gown another inch.
At best we sneak into the playoffs, but this is going to be a fun season to watch. |
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
Definitely. Hopefully they can build around the kid well.

I'm watching the game right now, and I definitely agree with what everyone is saying about McGee. I like how he attacks the basket, unlike Blatche for example.

Now if he can just learn some basic positioning on defense and rebounding. I still watch his game and think "even I know to put a body on the player near me when the shot goes up." I have hope for Javale, but he has a looooong way to go. He should get a bit of playing time this year since expectations for the Wiz won't really start growing until the 2011-12 season. |

Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
He didn't do much back in tryouts but hopefully he does more if this turns out to be another limited opportunity for him. If he makes the 12 man roster good for him, if he doesn't, sucks but I'd rather see him play great for the Wizards than play good in the world championships and still not do anything in the NBA.
|
Re: Washington Wizards 2010-2011 Ongoing Thread
For a guy as raw as McGee, this is only good news. As much time as he can get with good coaches (although neither for the national team are stand-outs with big men) is fine with me. Having coaches with authority yell at him to box out and improve his defensive positioning is just what he needs. I like the kid, I think he'll improve this year.
