Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
From PFT:
Redskins teammates begin to tee off on Haynesworth Posted by Mike Florio on June 15, 2010 10:57 PM ET Though they've yet to go on the record, at least two of Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth's teammates have begun the process of making their feelings known regarding Haynesworth's decision not to show up for a mandatory minicamp, which comes on the heels of an offseason of decisions by Haynesworth not to show up for work. As one player told Chris Russell of 106.7 The Fan in D.C., "[Haynesworth] loves money and not football. He is a great actor. Actors get paid a lot of money." Another teammate was more concise, simply calling Haynesworth an "asshole." We suspect that it'll only get more interesting once the players show up for the minicamp that opens tomorrow. |
Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
To be clear: Haynesworth should be getting ripped for choosing to blatantly violate a good faith contract tomorrow. Nothing good is going to come of his absence. It's just that, with all the bandwidth and paper that has been wasted on Haynesworth prior to this move, the story is going to die nationally pretty quickly, and Haynesworth is going to be pretty numb to justified criticism.
Which essentially means that he's done as a Redskin, if not before this year, then after. |
Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
While I have zero respect for AH as a person, my intuition is in the long run he "wins" this feud, because as a player (in the right situation) his dominance cannot be denied.
Basically Albert will sit across from some FO group w/ a team really looking to win, and he'll convince them he is committed to being the best 4-3 DT in football for several more years. He'll get another huge contract. Period. Here's why the Redskins lose. First, we won't get shit for Albert now. He knows this. His agent knows this. They also know he's still gonna get paid (as above). Second, we lost our best defensive player, and behind him it's just a whole series of big fat ?s, starting w/ our coaching staff and working all the way down the defensive roster. Shanny has made some awful coaching/personnel decisions, and they seem to be heavy on the defensive side. Haslett has never coached a dominant defense. More importantly it doesn't look like he's ever improved a unit. And in the end, we're still a completely untested 3-4 defense. Our secondary situation is shaky and now our DL situation is shaky because our one true 3-4 NT is coming off one of the worst possible injuries in football. Fail. |
Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
For now, the Redskins can fine him roughly $10,000 for skipping the minicamp. If he stays out when training camp rolls around, the number increases to more than $16,000 per day.
Albert Haynesworth proves his worthlessness | ProFootballTalk.com Still chump change to this a-hole
I don't think that the people in the comment section realize that the front office has undergone a change. All this Haynesworth non-sense is just a fallout from the previous regime. |

LONG before I ever wondered whether our current defensive personnel would be ok with the switch. We didnt have the LBs. STILL dont have the LBs. Our defense just needed to be TWEAKED. Throw away the 20 yard cushion our DBs were giving up, be more agressive, disquise the blitzes better, add some LBs, and we were straight. Andre Carter was coming off a very good season, now we throw him back at LB. Like him or not, AH was a beast for us, from the very first snap I saw him play with us, our D-line was INSTANTLY better. Anyone remember how our D/L was before AH? Yeah, it f-ckin sucked. Naw, we gotta come in and give the dam defense a complete face lift, knowing that this year we needed to focus on our God awful offense. Hasletts on my shit list, this defense better be dam good. Gonna be hard with Haynesworth out of the mix. |

I don't think that AH would've ever come here had he known how we'd use him even last year.

Don't know how to link to it, but the Skins blog cartoon this week showed a AH half covered in oil, and the punchline, AH said "See I told you I don't like plugging holes"

Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
Here are my thoughts:
- We always complain that athletes are lying when they say it's not about the money. In a strange way, AH is showing that right now for him it's really not about the money - Back in April, JLC was insistent that the Skins were actively trying to trade him...which wasn't the case - It's wrong I know, but I'd be more upset if I expected more from AH. But this is what he does when he's not on the field. He's always complaining about something - Been speaking to someone the last several months about AH. This person is closer to AH than Schefter to Shanahan, than Chip to Dale; and this person has been pretty consistently telling me things are blown out of proportion...until this morning when said person told me "The real issue isn't the 3-4, though he still has doubts about it. He's been told he's been bumped down the depth chart and he's upset the Redskins are making him show up before everyone else today. But he'll come around. Albert always needs to make his point before agreeing to anything"...I'm not sure how long Shanahan and Allen will give him to come around quite honestly - I'm going to try to find some time to talk to some Saints folks today to see if there's any new development on the Jammal Brown front - Now, we finally have a story |

Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
I love how people are focusing on the player, yet this will signify a major fail by this organization....I would say both from the previous and current regimes.
To begin, I would say that AH is a major dick for doing this, but there is nothing we can do about this and in the end his reputation will take a major hit. However, I fault this whole situation on the team for: 1. Paying a ton of money for a player that had some discipline issues (last regime). 2. Completely changing the defensive scheme that would make the team's most expensive player into something completely different (NT); and not trading him before the draft (this is whole on the current regime). Now teams are going to low-ball the Redskins, because he has become a problem child for the team. Regardless, all parties are at fault and all lose something...well except AH who earned 21 mil. for playing a few games last season.
There is no defending this fat sack of shit anymore. Yeah we shouldn't never signed this loser but he signed a contract. Had he done his homework he would've known that Zorn was a lame duck, he would've known that Snyder isn't patient w/ coaches. And Kris Jenkins isn't bitching about playing NT after being a 4-3 tackle in Carolina. It's the NFL, shit changes. See this shows me how dumb this guy is. Change happens in any line of work all the time. Deal with it fat boy. You took the money. |
Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
The bottom line is that, during negotiations, the Redskins made promises to Haynesworth that they are not keeping. It's hard to blame the team when a guy who is making a hundred million a year is skipping training camp, but if the Redskins made verbal promises to Albert and they're not keeping those promises, well then they have to sleep in the bed they made.

That would be the worst of all possible ideas. The most we'd get for him now is a 4th rounder. The best thing to do for the skins is to hold their ground and continue to fine Haynesworth at every opportunity. Under no circumstances should they trade him - ever. let his ass sit on the bench for 3 years. They need to send a message that they wont tolerate this sort of foolishness, setting a precedent to prevent something like this from happening again. |

WOW, guess this was a story after all...unfortunately. Well my gut instinct was right, Phat Albert is an overpaid, piece of sh*t..... who never deserve to wear the Redskins uniform. The Curse of Vinny bits us again.
We have to get value, a starting Tackle would be ideal or combo of drafts picks which includes at least a 2nd rounder. We MUST get value or just fine his worthless ass every f*ckin day.... I knew this was another bad free agent signing, thank god Danny Boy and Vinny are not running the show anymore |

See I hate people like you that like to rub the "I told you so" in people's faces. Great, you get a cookie, but this whole situation is still bad for the team period. Maybe these news made your day and you get to boast how right you were, still this does nothing to improve the Redskins. On a related note, I'm torn on what the team should do. Part of me wants this guy out of here and like someone said, cut our losses and get rid of him (personally, I wish this could have happened before the draft). We don't need this f'ing circus around us, because that's what it will be. But I would appreciate him getting fined everyday he's not at camp and well into the regular season. |

Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
Ya know, I was never a huge fan of the Hayneswoth signing, but I wasn't particularly disappointed with his play last season. He definitely helped improve the effectiveness of the D Line last season, but I still never really liked the signing. I support the guys on the field regardless though, and I wasn't disappointed in his play at all.
That said, I think he would have been somewhat of a waste in the 3-4 anyway. He could have probably been a dominant DE, but he'd have been totally useless as a NT being paid $100 mil. I say deal this guy for a 2nd round pick and try to forget he ever happened. If possible, I'd like to trade the F'er to a team who runs the 3-4, I think that would be hilarious. I will say, though, that I can kinda understand where he's coming from. He signed with this team thinking that he'd be able to do what he did in Tennessee, but that opportunity has been taken away kinda. Not that he would know, since he hasn't participated in anything, but moving to the 3-4 would have definitely made him less important, so I can see where he'd be miffed over the switch, also, I can see where he's coming from in saying that he wouldn't have signed here if we were running the 3-4 then. I think that argument's fair. Bottom line, I think he's a douche, but I'm not that mad at him. I already knew he was a douche and didn't think they should sign him. On top of that, I thought it was a mistake to sign him to that ridiculous contract, sorry to say it, but the Skins are kind of getting what they deserve for investing in this guy. Get rid of him and try to put the Cerrato era behind us, now that you look at the AH situation he kinda seems like a microcosm of that whole damn period. Just trade him and move on, please. |
Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
Haynesworth for Mankins and picks.
If he wants traded, make him pay back part or all of his signing bonus before granting his wish. If he won't, start fining him every day he misses. |

Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
ive said it before, ill say it again.
AH is all about the money, The man is a mercenary. He and his agent came here in hopes of collecting 32 million over 13 months, then try to force a trade so that he can get a new, more traditional "pay as you play" contract. Its all about money. The remainder of his contract with the skins is nominal at 4 to 6 mill a year for the next 3 years. Did anyone honestly think AH would play for 4-6 mil during his prime years? Did you think he would honor the fact that he got paid 21 mil in april? It is and always has been about money. He and his agent thought he got get a windfall for 1 year of work then sign a new contract with a new team. I know that after last season, bruce and AH placed an option in AH's contract that, after this year, he could opt out of the contract and become a FA if he paid back something around 18.3 mil of the 21 mil he was paid. If AH is unhappy about the scheme and not the money, he can opt out next year and be a free agent. Of course, he would have to give up all that money and admit defeat of his plan to get paid then pull a fast one out of town. Has anyone posted what fines the skins can leverage against AH for every day he misses mandatories? I know it was in an article within the past week. |
Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
Allen should just trade AH to another team that runs the 3-4 just to piss him off.

Patriots run a 3-4...have a player that is also demanding a trade (Mankins). Unfortunately, they just made Wilfork the 2nd-highest paid D-lineman behind Haynesworth in March. Wilfork at NT and Haynesworth at DE could be scary though, but I think Wilfork's big contract would keep that deal from happening. |

Re: WP: Haynesworth will skip minicamp, wants trade
I would be very happy if the Skins could work out a deal with New Orleans to trade AH for Jammal Brown.
Adding Brown at OT would really help our OL and make McNabb that much more effective. Under the circumstances, I think that would be a good trade for us. It would probably be a good trade for N.O., as well. With Bushrod, the Saints could probably get by fine without Brown and I think it's obvious now that, one way or another, AH is done in D.C. |

Perhaps if he'd been here for the past month with everyone else, there would be no reason for him to come in a few minutes early today to take a physical. If he came in at the same time today as everyone else, he'd have to be taking his physical while everyone else was working, putting him even further behind. TO be honest, if it were all about the money or his disatisfaction with the system, i could atleast understand where he's coming from (even if I didnt agree with it). These reasons for not coming in don't make him seem greedy. They don't make him seem lazy. They don't even make him seem like a diva. They just make him seem like a douche. |
