Re: Condoms For First Graders?

This isn't about 6 year olds getting condoms for crying loud, it's about education. I was playing with my parents condoms when I was that age. I thought they were balloons and didn't understand why these balloons were greasy. Finally one day, my parents got wind that my brother and I were using their balloons as water balloons and told us to never touch "their" balloons or else. A few years later my father told us about the birds and the bees and told us about condoms and we both went ewww and that was that.

It's not fucking rocket science and if they don't learn from you they will learn from those nasty little kids they go to school with. It is best you teach them before they learn in school, whether through teachers or peers.

Re: Condoms For First Graders?

well, the article did say the student would have to request the condoms from the school nurse who could refuse to provide the condoms for reasons such as age.

so unless 1st graders know what condoms are, i dont see many 1st graders being like "yo bitch, hold that snapper open just a lil bit longer, i gotta go see nurse jones for some of them jimmy hats."

idk, sounds like the people thought it would be for high schoolers, not every kid in school from 1st grade and up. while that one board guy grosso is qouted as saying "they will revisit it", I find it suspicious that Fox news in the article states that he said or implied 1st graders should get condoms but didnt qoute him.

just sounds like some general idea tossed out there and noone thought of putting an age restriction in until people started realizing and complaining of the overly broad language, i dont think anyone intended to give 1st graders condoms.

this fucking courrier better hurry the f up. supposed to be here at 2 to have something filed with court in dc by 4. i called at 2:30 and he said he was sending someone.

Yeah obviously including "first graders" in the title is sensationalizing just a tad.

yeah back in the leave it to beaver days, it was also common for someone to take a 12 year old bride...

i agree though, the title is misleading, and a bit sensationalistic in nature.

Bottom line, kids are having sex in elementary school...its happening majorly, and if nobody will discourage it, then they at least need to know the consequences...

just a curiosity question:

a man walks into a pharmacy with his 10 y.o son, goes to the condom section, and after talking to his son, purchases a pack. At the checkout counter, after paying he hands the pack to his son, and says now be careful. Should the clerk do anything?

same thing except now he walks in with his 7 y.o. daughter, and as they leave the counter he explains that she should make sure any boys she is with uses these. Should the clerk do anything? Wouldn't DSS be called by any bystander that saw this transaction?
I think having adults < educators > giving anything to minors , especially under the age of 16 is asking for trouble . I will try and give a good example , if I as a parent were trying to keep my 6-12 year old away for the tempation/s to drink , have sex , fight , smoke , ect . My job would be much harder if the school were to make condoms , cig's , beer available . Maybe the school is not encouraging kids to have sex , however kids even up to 17 years of age will make bad choices , and giving them a reason to feel "protected "might drive them into a bad choice . I do not have kids , but I think we should leave kids under 12-13 alone < as far as the gov't / schools > , that is the parents responsibility as far as what age to have that type of discussion and what punishment might be handed out if they make the wrong choice . My point about the gun , was if the school is protecting a child by giving them condoms , then a kid who was getting beat up every day might need protection also , and I doubt any parent would be happy if the school said " you should be happy we are handing out guns , knives ect. to the weak kids ... its for their protection" . I know the comparison is a reach , just saying that IMO both would go to far , as the condoms were being given to six yr olds , 3 yrs removed from being a baby .
Life is all about choice and personal responsibility. If you bring your children up right no one, and I mean no one, can undermine your teachings.
No.2: As I said to TTE, before we talk about what the appropriate solution is and who's responsibilty it is, would you agree that child sex has an effect on the public health.
Yes it does , STD's , counsling , therapy , unwanted pregnancy , which can , 1) destroy a family or two , cause financial burden ( families ) and tax payers , and could damage ability of child/children to get a better education because they are forced to raise a child at a young age . I think the parents are resposible , so if two 16 year old produce , and have a baby ... the parents are financialy obligated to help raise/provide for the grandchild , maybe only in cases where the parents were opposed to condom use ..... tough call on much of the debate , i do have to add .... no way kids under < maybe 12 > should be treated as adults , which IMO giving them condoms does just that . Just my 2 cents .

Sex of the child dosesn't matter. What is the moral equivalence between your story and the schools teaching about condoms and making them available to all students?

Yeah, giving Condoms out to 1st graders is pretty bad. Way to young. I think anyway. But, this wouldn't have even been an issue if Ronald Reagan didn't sit on his ass when the HIV/ AIDS epidemic hit San Francisco! If Reagan had actually done something to stop this and not made jokes about it there would be no safe sex stuff going on right now. Heck, just about all the other STD's are curable. But AIDS, thats not curable and it scares the crap out of everyone forcing them to "wrap it up".

And its all because our former President decided not to do anything about it. When he probably could have stopped it.

I think one of the things that is really messed up is the age of consent. Don't get me wrong, i'm not a pedophile, it's just that the law doesn't care if two 12 year olds are screwing like rabbits, but the minute somebody is 18 having sex with a minor, it's the end of the world.

Rape is still rape, but i see so many young men, and young women, whose lives get destroyed because of this age of consent stuff. The law doesnt care that they both wanted to have consensual sex, only that one person was legally an adult and therefore it is a crime.

They have to have some mitigating factor that keeps it fair. You can get a drivers license at 16, but yet sex is still illegal until your 18. My wife is 5 years younger than me, that means i would have been in jail when our relationship began in high school, going by today's laws.

Saden , I agree with " personal responsibility " .... 100% . As far as undermining a parents teachings , if someone gets to your kid at an early enough age , Im not so sure . Not all kids have a great deal of confindence ,maybe they grow a little slower , are not as strong or athletic , acne ect. I do not disagree with your statement , but I have seen kids who were raised by good loving parents , give into peer pressure and mess up their lives , in some cases very badly . For what its worth , I live and let live , like most I get mad from time to time , but i just do what I need to do , enjoy life as much as possible and try and help others when I get the chance , like most Americans seem to . Snake , 16 year olds can have sex ,with other 16 year olds , when an adult starts having sex with a minor , thats when it becomes a crime . As far as an 18 year old having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend , i agree that he should not be charged with a crime , that seems plain stupid . Now as far as you having 5 years on your wife , well you are both adults , however if you were 18 and having sex with a 13 year old ,,,,, thats a crime < not saying you were or even knew her then > , but if an 18 year old even attempted to hook up with either my 13 or 15 year old niece ... he would be safer in police custody then if I walked in on them . but please please please dont open it up in traffic and swerve and slam on brakes. when you speed then try and squeeze into a tight spot between 2 cars in an attempt to lane change, you are putting people in danger who just want to get home to their kids and family and some cold ones.

Not sure the link is accurate , not all " quotes " are true . Just curious , why didn't the Dems in concress stop AIDS ? What about the leadership Europe , did RR make them ignore AIDS ? What about China , why didn't they end AIDS .... why didn't Clinton stop AIDS ? Most illnesses /disease can be controlled or prevented by us as individuals , diet , exercise , not taking up smoking , not to drink excessively , ect. Don't forget , when RR ran for president in ' 80 ... breast cancer happened to be public enemy #1 and very few knew much if anyting about AIDS until around '85 / 86 . Besides ,the President of the USA cannot prevent disease in our country let alone what happens around the world . Not saying RR or future presidents /world leaders couldn't have been more pro-active , but we do have other diseases that we have spent over 100 years trying to cure , cancer , MS , MD , diabetis , ect . No one man is responsible for all good , or bad .

Six year old children aren't mature enough to make any decisions, but to try and influence their behavior by denying them the truth is the wrong approach, IMO.

So, since I don't want my kid to try to hike Mt. Everest, I will simply deny that it exists. I'll try to make sure that he doesn't learn about it in school. Oh, and I'll also tell him that oceans are not real. Problem solved, I'm so smart.

If a girl had gotten knocked up in my grandfather's time they'd send her off to live with a relative in another town. It's called ostercizing. As for the farm, there have always been shotgun weddings. My homeboy would be single to this day had he not knocked up his gal. Three children and a marriage later he's still going strong. That's because he still has what so many these days lack: honor, integrity, and a sense of personal responsibility.

You're attacking the symptom and not the problem. The problem is Americans are so rich that they can afford to be lazy and let someone else handle their problems. Most of these "so-called" social problems would take care of themselves if we allowed them to.

"So you knocked up your teenage sweet-heart huh boy? Well pack your shit, get a job, and take care of her. And don't show up for Christmas unless you've got a ring on her finger. If you don't you're no son of mine."

That's how it used to be.

Americans are so damned spoiled that they want to have their cake and eat it too. That will come to an end soon enough. The more you allow someone else to make decisions for you, the further into servitude you will sink.

You have a different philosophical approach than I do.

You seem to think man is a perfectable and all problems can be solved.

I believe man is inherently flawed and should be left to take care of his problems on his own.

You assume most kids will have sex. I don't. How many pregnancies do you hear of at all male / all female boarding schools? So using that logic do you give them rolling papers and needles if you assume they'll do drugs? Are you going to re-name fresh needles safety devices?

Maybe we should teach kids math and physics, not graft and getting physical?

Creating a group of under educated individuals who are more likely than not to end up criminals, living off the public dole, or dying miserable poverty stricken lives. They are also more likely than not to continue the underage sex/pregnancy problem. Maybe they beat the odds and become healthy productive citizens but, without going through the motions, I am sure I could find lots of studies showing both parents and children from teen pregnancy's are likely to end up a drain on society rather than a benefit.

Sure, it solves the parents' problem but it inflicts the results, for good or ill, on the rest of society. If kicking your son into the body politic and cutting off personal support is your solution, then you have made his education the body politic's business.
Wow. great sense of moderation. You're right, b/c demagogues and evil individuals used hyperbole and fear mongering to completely sublimate individual rights to those of hte state, there is never an instance where society has a right or interest in examining the societal health and attempting to come to a balance between that and individual liberties.
And who is better suited to determine what is healthy for me, besides me? I don't believe in moderation when it comes to what's left of my rights. And no, Hitler isn't a bad example because FDR believed the same thing. You'd let society determine your fate? I've got some land in Florida that I am more than willing to sell you. If you buy that I'll throw in the Brooklyn Bridge for free.

Poor fools. Liberals always envision themselves as Huxley's Alphas. In reality you're epsilons and are expendable in the eyes of the power elite, just like everyone else. You are not unique snow flakes. You will find this out sooner rather than later.

Let's see Hitler = FDR. Yup, I am convinced.

As for who is better suited to decide what is healthy for you? I don't disagree. But you are not self sufficient. Whether you like it or not, you exist as part of and in a larger group the vast majority of whom aren't related to you. So guess what, your individual rights are not unlimited. The rest of us have some say on actions you may take that affect us.

You don't like how this particular civil society makes decisions and regulates individual's actions? Go join another. Let us know when you find one that can function with people disagreeing but unable to enforce decisions with which someone in the group disagrees (like a draft, taxes, the need for safety, how to protect the elderly and the young - silly things like that). Better look for a mountain top not owned by any other group and start your own country of one.
The left wonders why I feel the need to work harder so my child can go to private school. The first sentence of the article tells allot. No one objected to this in the meeting or thought anything was wrong with giving condoms to children that young without telling the parents.

"When the school board in Provincetown, Mass., voted unanimously on June 8 to provide free condoms to all students in the district without parental notification, no one in the audience objected."

The 2nd sentence of this post tells a lot on why I will have my children pay attention in English/Grammar/Lit no matter what school that they go to :)
