Seeing as the guy says his phone is busted and they have video evidence of the cop pointing a gun at them, I'd say it is true. Cops like this should be fired, and brought up on charges. We allow our cops to get away with too much these days.

There are lots of issues coming from police departments when they're being filmed during stops. As far as I'm concerned, if they're not doing anything wrong no reason they shouldn't be able to be filmed. It actually, gasp, gives the person accused of something evidence in a court room.

In MD it gets very muddy as to if you can or can't film. I found this interesting. I can easliy see both sides.

yeah that guy in the video is a jackass though, the cops come up and ask him what he is doing and he replies um um taking pictures of trains i like them, sorry but get the f outta here, and then asked for id and refuses, sorry but he had it coming he wanted to be a dick. if he has nothing to hide why not just say i'm taking pictures of the before and after of transit systems, granted i turned the video off after he refused to give his id but from what i saw this guy was asking for trouble. he could have easily explained what he was doing and been on his way.

Those cops didn't write the law so I see their side that they need to enforce it, hence their job. Plus I can see where filming major transportation hubs may be an act a terrorist would do to gain information about that area.

I can also see how it is annoying to the civilian as well and infringes on his rights.

If it was me and the cops asked me to stop filming I would if he asked for my ID I show it to him. I don't have anything to hide and really why take pictures of Baltimore, it is a city you should try to forget.

Unbelievable...that cocksucker of a cop is a danger to the people he is suppose to protect and himself. A real crook could have easily murder both him and his partner and there he is screaming at the guy even though his dumbass is the one that fcked up and didn't ask them if they had any weapons before beginning search.

While I basically agree with your assessment, the duty is on the owner of the gun to disclose. While it might be prudent to ask if someone is armed, the law is clear that those holdng the license must disclose immediately upon approach by a police officer. I can see any number of good reasons for putting that duty on the gun owner rather than making the cop have to ask.

With that said, the owner tried to do so and was told to shut up. Barring some very good & as yet unknown explanation for his actions, this guy should be off the force yesterday.

firstdown 07-22-2011 10:55 AM

Re: What's up with the cops these days?

First off the guy with the gun by law has to disclose he is carring a gun right away. He did not. While the cop was an a$$ I think the cop was trying to convey to the guy the dangers of not telling a cop they are carring a gun. I think the cop needs some training but not fired for his actions.

JoeRedskin 07-22-2011 12:06 PM

Re: What's up with the cops these days?

^^ Did you watch the video? He tried to tell the cop but was told to shut up - What was he supposed to do? Shout over the cop "I have a CCW and a gun"? How do you think the angry little cop would have reacted to someone shouting they were packing? Would he perceive it as a threat?

When I police officer shouts at me to do something, I do it in order to avoid escalation. Period.

Sorry, as cop friendly as I generally am, there are times when they are just wrong and this is one of them.

Apparently, while the cop has received several commendations, he has also been the subject of 16 Internal Affair investigations since 2000. In 2003, he was reprimanded for turning off his dash cam on a stop - on the same stop he and his partner were acquitted of using excessive force (apparently there was no video evidence to back up the perp's story - I kid, I kid).

A police officer in Salem, IN has been charged with a DUI after he crashed his truck that was pulling a D.A.R.E. trailer. The trailer had the familiar logo donning the acronym for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. But not only is 38-year-old John Newcomb a local cop, he’s the school resource officer in charge of seven local campuses, where he often gives talks about drunk driving.

Re: What's up with the cops these days?

About that canton ohio CCW video.

Ive found that when your driving through known drug and prostitute areas late at night, officers tend to assume every person is a john, drug user or has a warrant for their arrest.

Also, unfortunately for the way this world operates, there was a black guy in the back seat.

I dont find the officers conduct all that surprising, ive certainly seen worse on the internet. I had a female montgomery county officer run across a room and elbow me in the head while i was handcuffed to a metal table . . i was 15.

rights are violated all the time on a sliding scale depending on who you are, your race, your location, time of day, type of car you drive etc . . .

Re: What's up with the cops these days?

I got nothing against most cops. I actually like most of the Richmond City cops ive met, they are pretty decent.

What I have a problem with is that cops have a lot of power in negatively affecting your life and most people blindly accept that cops are always going to do the right thing. I was pulled over about 3 or 4 years ago for Improper Lane Change, I was on my way to play paintball early on a Saturday morning. Ill admit that the attire of a person that seldom plays paintball is suggestive of a meth-head but the police officer flat out treated me like shit. Then the cop straight up lied in court. Just flat out made things up as he read out of his log from the traffic stop. I guess my insurance has gone up because of that.

My point is that when a cop has a bad day and behaves poorly its becomes malicious. They are harming people’s lives. Traffic court is a absolute joke; without a lawyer you have the option to plead guilty and ask for leniency or be found guilty no matter what you or any of your witnesses say because what the cop says caries so much more weight. Most other courts seem largely the same. Cops are given way too much power and unfortunately theyre just like us; they feel pressure from their bosses, they get tired of doing the same thing and dealing with the same people, some cops are just as bad as your crazy cowoker, and they all have bad days. And because of that a lot of people get screwed over in court, treated like shit, beat up, elbowed to the face, or even killed. Its not just 1 bad cop giving all cops a bad name, it’s almost every single cop that occasionally has a bad day and screws with people’s lives in addition to the few crazy cops that have 16 internal affairs investigations and are still somehow still on the force.

Re: What's up with the cops these days?

i hear ya mlm. most officers are good, some are bad. Dc used to have this program where officers would get a bonus for every illegal gun they brought in off the street. This one "cop", who was subsequently fired for a whole bunch of excessive force violations, would just pull any random person over in SE. He would search the car without consent, if he found a gun, he arrested you and collected his bonus.

if he didnt find a gun, he'd let you go. Unfortunately, people who get let go dont report it b/c they dont want to waste their time or hassle.

it was a few months before my 21st, my 21 year old friends went into rollins beer in rockville while i, the driver, stayed in the car. I saw a "cop" sitting in the 7-11 parking lot across teh street. My buddies put the beer in my trunk and we pulled out. the cop pulled out right behind me. I was doing exactly the speed limit, knew he was going to pull me over. got close to the 270 on ramp and he pulle dme over, said i was speeding. I looked him dead in teh eye and said i saw you behind me the whole time, i wasnt speeding.

sucked i blew something like a .04 and got an alcohol violation b/c i wasnt 21 yet.

couldnt believe this cop said that, straight lie and that was to a respectable looking white boy in rockville. cant imagine what goes on to black guys in SE or baltimore. I wonder if the cop did it b/c 2 of my friends in the car were black. got pulle dover in DC just for that reason, mix of black and white guys. cop atleast was honest and said he pulle dus over b/c that usually means the black dudes are taking the white dudes to get drugs in DC.

Remember Officer Daniel Harless, the Canton, Ohio, police officer who was caught on video threatening to kill citizens? Well, he’s back in a new video that some say corroborates the notion that he has abused his power and built a track record of violent threats.

Officer Daniel Harless and his partner pull a car over for no apparent reason. After interrogating the passengers inside about their activities, you hear Harless threaten one passenger.

A police officer’s voice (it appears to be Harless’) can be heard saying, “If you scratch you balls wrong, I’m going to pull my gun and I am going to shoot you.” Below, watch the recently-released dashboard video (the death threat can be heard around 4:50):

As it turns out, Harless is no stranger to internal affairs investigations. He’s apparently been cleared of 18 of them since 2001. But despite these issues, Chief Dean McKimm has claimed that “there was no evidence Harless was a problem.”
CBS Atlanta News has obtained more than 500 pages of internal affairs complaints lodged against Clayton County police officer Michael Hobbs in the last five years.

Chief Investigative Reporter Wendy Saltzman found dozens of use-of-force reports brushed aside by Clayton County internal affairs, including claims Hobbs is terrorizing citizens.

One of those citizens is Brian Hoolihan. Hoolihan passed out in his car along side a road in Clayton County in a diabetic coma back in 2007. He had a sticker on the window of his car, warning about his life threatening medical condition.

A police report shows Officer Hobbs arrived at the scene and wrongfully assumed Hoolihan was drunk. Hobbs forced himself into the car and struck Hoolihan twice with a closed fist to the face and another blunt elbow blow to his head.
Among them a police captain who admitted to drinking and driving when he was involved in a hit and run, an officer accused of an incident of road rage, an officer who pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct after a charge of domestic abuse fifth-degree was dismissed, and an officer found guilty of providing false statements in court 17 years ago. Then-Police Chief Doyle Barker had sought termination, but the commission opted for suspension and training.

“That officer, Chadd said, then suddenly hooked the suspect around the leg, grabbed him and ‘slammed him face first into the ground.’

‘It was like a bowling ball hitting the ground, that’s how bad it was,’ he said.”
I like the show Cops, but one thing that really makes me upset is when cops knock the crap out of a suspect for no reason. It usually happens when they do drug set ups. The undercover cop will buy or sell drugs and then as the suspect is walking away a bunch of cops will swarm a suspect. The suspect is caught by surprise and usually just stands there and then a cop will just tackle the shit out of him from behind.

Look i get someone is running away, reaching for something, looking like they might act aggressively or resisting but there is no reason to just tackle the shit out of someone that just committed a minor and non violent crime. Its ridiculous.

Prime example from a show i remember watching:
