Re: Fantasy Tips
So it was an interesting night, to say the least, at my first fantansy draft. Couple of things I wanted to point out that explains my picks, which were questionable.
We briefly lost the internet connection and the system made an auto pick for me at RB/Knowshon Moreno. I was so pissed! Our league is also using entire defenses as well IDP. I drafted late in the first. Offense: QB Philip Rivers (2/16) RB Pierre Thomas (1/9) RB CJ Spiller (3/33) RB Knowsho Moreno (autopick 5/57) this is also a flex position TE Chris Cooley (4/40) WR Braylon Edwards via trade for Robert Mecham (7/81) WR Santan Moss (6/64) Defense: Pittsburgh (8/88) IDP Terrell Suggs DeAngelo Hall DeMarcus Ware Dwight Freeney K - Robbie Gould Back-ups: Donovan McNabb Eddie Royal Tashard Choice Brian Westbrooks (19/225) Shaun Ellis Adrian Wilson
I think you're toast bro. why in the world do you have so many D players? you only need 1. I can't believe spiller went in the 3rd...fred jackson will have more fantasy points than he will book it. don't hate on my team cause i've got too many cowboys on them. romo was the best QB available and i got him in the 5th round. I do have kevin kolb on my benc though, so one of them could be trade bait. for anybody else, try to get arian foster in the 5th round. he's going to be a beast this year. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
so my fantasy draft is in less than an hour and we just decided position and I ended up with the #1 overall pick... and I don't feel comfortable with Chris Johnson. I'm strongly considering picking ray rice with my first pick. Am I crazy?

Actually, the rules for my league required us to have that many IDPs (not just one) as well as an entire defense. But to your point, I do have two too many on my bench. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Last pick in my 10 person league... snake draft...
do i go 2 RB's? I'm mildly irritated. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Last pick in my 10 person league... snake draft...
do i go 2 RB's? I'm mildly irritated.
In fantasy you will regret scraping the bottom of the barrel for Running backs much more then you will looking for receivers in the later rounds. Potential number 1 targets like Malcolm Floyd, Jabar Gaffney, Braylon Edwards, Santana Moss, and Michael Crabtree will all be around while the best running back available will be someone like Donald Brown or Tim Hightower. Heck you can even get Sidney Rice very late in any draft. Going running backs with back to back picks is a great way to shore up a quality team. On top of that you have QB's like Rivers and Schuab available in round 3. Technically QB's score the most points in fantasy football but the difference between the number 1 QB and the number 10 QB is much less then the difference between the number 1 running back and the number 10 running back. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
took a risk... went back to back WR's.... here's what i got so far.
Kevin Kolb QB Ryan Mathews RB Jamaal Charles RB Steve Smith (NYG) flex Andre Johnson WR Randy Moss WR Jermichael Finley TE Steelers D no kicker yet back ups Matt Ryan Felix Jones Reggie Bush Mike Williams WR not confident at all. sooo...time to start drinking heavily. Kevin Kolb at QB...sweet. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Ok, Week 1 advice (without being a homer) I have to start 2RBs. First is Michael Turner (no brainer there), second is either Matt Forte @ Detroit or Clinton Portis vs Dallas? Why does starting Portis against the Cowboys bother me?
|
Re: Fantasy Tips
Fellas,
would like your thoughts on who i should start as my #2 RB. I have Jones Drew as my #1 but i have two rookies...... Spiller and R. Matthews. Spiller just got named the Bills starting RB. I dunno. Both are unknowns but i'm leaning towards Matthews. Anyone have any insight |
Re: Fantasy Tips
I usually go
1. WR 2. RB 3. WR 4. RB 5. WR 6. QB, usually cutler or someone of those ranks 7. RB got arian foster here...what a steal rest of the draft I go best available. I think it's most important to grab that elite WR in the 1st round cause RB's are so plentiful in the NFL, plus how often does one stud play all 16 games? rarely. but WR's usually are go the whole season. Like nobody is arguing the production that a andre johnson gives you or someone in his tier of talent. but the top tier of RB's to me are a lot deeper. |
Pretty good team. I Reeeeeaaaaally wanted Arian Foster but the guy right before me drafted him in the 7th. I had the first overall pick in a snake league so going 20 spots in between consecutive picks made it a bit hard to judge when to take guys. Where did you take MJD? He didnt get taken until the 3rd round in my league. we were all scared to death of him. To put it in perspective, one guy took the Jets defense when MJD was still on the board. he's a moron Jets fan that thinks they'll get him 20ppg. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Jones-Drew in the 3rd round? In most leagues he's a top 5 pick.

I'm in two different 10 team leagues this year, and you have 5 guys in your starting lineup that went in the first 3 rounds in both of my leagues (Brady, Turner, MJD, R.White, Megatron). I'm lukewarm on MJD this year, but how on earth did he fall to the 3rd round? |
Re: Fantasy Tips
My two starting lineups for week 1:
QB- Tom Brady RB- Adrian Peterson RB- Ronnie Brown WR-Roddy White WR-Wes Welker WR/RB- Ahmad Bradshaw TE- Antonio Gates K- Matt Prater D/ST- Dallas (I know, I know) Peyton Manning Ryan Grant Pierre Thomas Andre Johnson Dwayne Bowe Tim Hightower Vernon Davis Rob Bironas Pittsburgh So in the league above where I have Brady/AP, I'm a little stuck on my flex player. I'm up in the air between Ahmad Bradshaw, Tim Hightower, and Malcolm Floyd (I also have Gates, so I'd be starting two Chargers). So my fellow fantasy gurus- Hightower, Bradshaw, or Floyd? |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Jones-Drew in the 3rd round? In most leagues he's a top 5 pick.
Not ours. His injury is worrisome. He was off my board entirely. As was Forte. He burned me last year and i'd rather have Tony Romo on my roster than him. Fitzgerald also feel very far in our draft. Someone took a kicker in the 5th. The draft was the craziest ive ever been a part of.... although one of my friends is in a league where some moron took the Texans Andre DAVIS in the first round. Thats got to be about the dumbest thing i've ever heard of. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
MJD is back at practice this week and said the injury is a non-issue. We'll see.

start Forte and don't look back. Dallas Defense > Lions defense although lions will be much improved this year. |

Each league has a different style. Two of them are 10 team leagues one of which has a ridiculous scoring system (not uncommon for players to put up 70 points in any given week). The other 10 team league is a PPR league. The 6 team league, well let's just say I wanted a league where I didn't have to scrape the bottom of the barrel. |

what is the fun in a 6 team league? everyone has a ton of sick players. where is the strategy in trying to decide between starting roddy white and miles austin? "scraping the bottom of the barrel" is the whole point of fantasy football, getting the guys that are great before they prove it. if anything, i go for larger leagues, ones in which everyone has to know their stuff to survive. i mean like 14+ leagues. thats where the waiver wire and trades really matter. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
I'm not a big fan of small leagues, or leagues with crazy scoring. A league I'm in with guys from work is totally ridiculous. You start 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 2 flex spots, 1 kicker, 1 team D, and two IDP. And on top of that you have an 8 player bench. Needless to say the draft took forever.

that league sounds awesome. IDP might be my favorite position to draft. depending on the scoring system, i almost always try to get our own london fletcher. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Funny, I did grab Fletcher. He racks up a ton of tackles.
|
Re: Fantasy Tips
So, I'm struggling with who to start, we have a flex WR/RB position and my 4 backs are: Jones-Drew, Jamaal Charles, Jerome Harrison and Clinton Portis. Right now, Portis is on the bench, but I feel odd about it. I'm not certain how he'll be used. I feel like he was the only effective back, so I'd love to play him, but I just think the other 3 will have better days. I really feel like the only guy who could be discussed is Harrison, but Hillis is the backup there, I think he'll get the lion's share of the carries...aaaahhhh
Any advice? EDIT: So, NFL.com has Harrison as a "Start Em" and Portis on the "Sit Em" list, so I guess I'm sticking with it. |
Re: Fantasy Tips
Who are your WRs? Thats a very weak RB corp in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of my team this year. I have Calvin Johnson, Percy Harvin, and Mike Wallace as my only real options at WR |
Re: Fantasy Tips
i'd pick up tampa bay's mike williams if he's available in your league, and start him, johnson, and harvin.

He actually went pretty early in our draft. I don't know...I'm really over fantasy football at this point. It really takes away from the game for me. |

yeah, I always bench any players on my fantasy team whose teams play the skins on any given weekend... no matter who they are. it completely ruins the game for me. id rather lose a week in fantasy football than want one of our opponents to have success against our team. the lone exception is kickers - i want them to score field goals, not extra points. |

Yeah, a few years ago, I had Rudi and Chad Johnson (back when he was still Johnson) and they lit the Skins up. I needed them to, the game got me to the playoffs, I won the league and $900, I felt dirty for rooting against my team, though. EDIT: Also, this idea that it makes games more interesting doesn't hold for me. I like football a lot and I enjoy watching every game, I don't want to be worried about whether or not my guy is getting a goal line carry when a great game is on the line. It's just annoying to me. |

All of these guys could have good years. I would say that you'll get better production out of Wallace once Big Ben returns. If healthy and if Favre is kept upright, Harvin could produce, and Megatron is a toss up I guess. |

I am betting he has a great year this year. He starts as my flex back until proven otherwise. |

Okay, tell me which two you start out of this set:
P. Thomas v. Minn C. Portis v. Dallas L. McCoy v. G.Bay D. McFadden v. Tenn. |
