Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
I've started to notice that lately theres a trend towards what I would describe as running backs playing Wide Receiver. Now it's not that the players are built like running backs but the way they're used (ie moving the chains with safe plays) is reminscint of how teams have frequently employed running backs. Collinsworth actually touched on it tonight with Miles Austin.
Others in this category include Wes Welker, Brandon Marshall, and Dallas Clark |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
so stacked at WR tonight
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
Austin goes over the middle too much to be a pass-catching "RB"

Thats exactly where I would expect that type of player to go. In fact it doesn't matter if it's left, middle, or right. So long as they're used on short routes where they're expected to make something happen after the catch. Come to think of it, Devin Thomas has the potential to fill a roll similar to that. Basically the premise is that they're used on routes that you could consider "high risk handoffs." Drags, curls, flats, quick in, quick out, and slants are the type of routes I would use for this type of player. |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
You've got to find away to get DT in the game at WR.
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
Yes Thomas should have been our 2 or 3 last night. AA and Joey didn't do anything, we also need to find Fred Davis, I'm sure shanny will find ways to get him involved
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
It's plain to see that offenses in the NFL have evolved. Outside of teams with absolute beasts at running back like Minnesota with Peterson, and Tennessee with Chris Johnson, the running game has become more of a complement to an offense rather than its primary feature.
On a side note, from what we saw last night, this thread is looking "stupid" right about now. Though I will say McNabb obviously needs more time than he's had to get on the same page with some of these other guys. |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
I second that Beem. Armstrong did nothing to impress me last night and DT was only our return man. He did a very nice job at that, but we need him at WR. Where was Banks? We needed to keep Austin on the active roster. Other than Moss, our WR corp was non existent.

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
I have to offer a slight edit to my post -- on those two fade patterns to Armstrong in the endzone, McNabb put the ball right in his hands both times.
In preseason, Armstrong probably would have made those catches. |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
Our lack of a threat opposite Moss was as glaring last night as any other single problem from the game.
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
Armstrong had a nice pre season but let's not forget that he's a journeymen. Galloway is 38 and there is a reason he's bounced around the last few years. And Williams didn't even play last year. No shocker they were all quiet last night. They need to get DT in the mix.
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
We still need some wideouts.... we kinda stunk last nigt.
Where was Freddy D BTW, I saw him in the game but he was not targeted very often. We may be wasting his talent behind Cooley |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
I'm still trying to figure out why Galloway is starting? He was basically a ghost in games in the preseason and last nite in the game he was no where to be found. Armstrong was a flat out disappointment.
Thomas needs to be in the game, he was absolutely great on kickoff returns. |

Good points. Also, Armstrong had no business getting two endzone fade passes thrown his way. You need a tall receiver in order for that work, although that first pass was all on him messing it up. |

Very true. We've got a new qb who is a proven vet, and he's not finding anybody other than Cooley & Moss. It felt like the offense was no different than it's been the past 5 years, except that I felt confident in the leadership of shanny & Mcnabb. We need DT to step up & earn some playing time. Unless we make a trade, he's our only hope. Maybe the Pats will offer up R. MOss for Haynesworth? |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
Lets give this a game or two. We were playing a very good D and a new O with a new QB so its not going to be to pretty starting off.

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
It sounds like Armstrong had more on his mind then just the game.

Except that Moss was wide open sometimes, so at least someone was respected by the Dallas D. Sure, Kyle knows how to design the plays, but they wouldn't work without some sort of help. |

As long as we have invisible WR's we should be getting Cooley and Davis on the field and catching balls at the same time. I'm not sure why that didn't happen last night. |

What the hell was he yelling. "Hey ass holes see we didn't even need that f***ing touchdown I dropped".

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
I'm going to guess that the gameplan was a bit scaled down for McNabb last night and that's probably why he didn't spread it around. As he gets more comfortable I think he will get more guys involved.

It's only funny because we won. Sundberg could have yelled something similar. |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
I did not realize how well that ball was thrown until I just saw the pic in the above link. I hope it was just his nerves and this is not the start of any trend.

Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
The first fade to Armstrong was right on the money, he just flat out dropped it. The 2nd was better defended, but the pass was still right there.
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
We should put in Thomas if for nothing more then the fact that he's among the better blockers playing receiver.
|
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
Prediction: Thomas will play ahead of Armstrong against HOU.

You know who I really didn't see much of last night? Fred Davis.

I don't know. I think that Armstrong will still be ahead of Thomas. In spite of last nights miscue the guy is still closer to breaking out. Joey Galloway will be benched and or cut by week 4. How he is staring is crazy.

He got in briefly on a couple of plays, got a penalty for holding and I didn't see much of him after that. |

So, did Bruce Allen call A.J. Smith today?

I pray you're right.[/quote] Not sure about Armstrong more close in breaking out than DT. I know it is one game, but so far, he doesn't look like he is going anywhere. I am thinking WR will be a top priority in the draft or the next FA signing period, or both. I love our TE's but you can't always target them. |

Word. It's a glaring "mystery." Davis is nearly as agile as a WR and arguably has better hands than any (WR) on the roster. Throw him in the slot and Cooley at TE. I agree w/ those who think Thomas should get his reps out there. He's still got the most potential of any WR on the roster. Maybe the Shanny's are working him in easy, which would make sense considering it's the elephant in the room (how much pressure/expectation there is for him). |
Re: (Vent thread) I'm sorry, but the notion, that the Redskins have "no" receivers is just stupid!
The main thing Mcnabb did on Snday night that impressed me was keeping drives alive and not turning the ball over. I'm sure the TD's will come as we move forward in the season.
