Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Well, technically Lawrence Tynes is the worst. Gano is 31 of 32 in terms of accuracy.
FedEx is a tough place to kick in. We may never find someone that everyone is 100% happy with. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
speaking of kickers, i have a hunch cundiff is on hgh. since when did he consistently boom them for touchbacks.
imo gano has done enough with his long kickoffs and has made some decent pressure/length kicks to have some sense of job security. Also, at least to me it seemed we had consistent kinda off-target snaps at the beginning of the season. gano has done just enough imo for us to not be having a kicker debate, but one bad game or kick and i think it is ripe for discussion. at least gano has a strong enough leg to go 50/50 on fgs 50 yds or longer. i remember with suisham, gibbs would either go for it on 4th or punt rather than trot suisham out for anything 50 or longer. it is what it is at this point, subject to change at any time. not great but better than most other options. |

If FedEx is tough to kick in, then he better step up the game because he kicks there 8 times a year, maybe more if we make the playoffs. hell, even the guy that kicks in pittsburg is better than gano, and Pittsburg is like the worst place in the NFL to be a kicker. |

Reed in Pittsburgh is just 1 percentage point higher than Gano at 73%. |

Plus that guy is the only one not named Mike Vanderjagt to earn the honored distinction of being called an idiot kicker. He was the true originator of sending girls the cock shot, unlike that copycat Brett Favre. He even has a douchebag haircut and a reputation for being a cocky asshole, despite not even being an elite kicker! |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
C'mon now, give the guy a break. He is the best we have had in a long time, and a young guy to boot. Do you really want to pay top $ for an aging vet kicker, when we have so many depth issues to address to make this team a true contender? You have to give him a whole season of work to evaluate him anyway. What if he goes like 11-13 in FGs the rest of the way? Are you going to still call for his head on a silver platter?
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
He'll have to show some signs of consistency later in the year because I'm about to die if he misses more of those critical FGs that could have cost us the game.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
You Gano haters are IDIOTS. There is a reason that we're leading the league in kickoff coverage, and Gano's excellent kickoffs are a HUGE part of that. Gano has missed one "gimme" all season, and that was the 37 yarder last week. Other than that, he is the best looking kicker we've seen here in years. I said it last week, and I'll say it again - Gano will be a successful kicker in this league for a long time, and I hope that Shanahan has the patience to allow it to happen here.

I like the passion on a kicker! If Gano lined up in his stance and kicked Rabach with all of his force, ending his career, he would be the best kicker we ever had! |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
With his 2/2 yesterday he's up to 27th in the league at 75%
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Gano made an awesome TD-saving tackle too. It was a hard, solid tackle for a kicker.
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Sign Gano to a 4 or 5 year deal!

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I second this, he sucks. We need to draft the best bad ass college kicker in the 5or 6th round this draft, and make him a redskin staple. Given our history for kickers (counting EVERY kicker all the way back after Lohmiller) the odds do not look especially good for us. It definietly is an area that needs addressing though......
History with kickers here is interesting because they have had good ones here and let them go elsewhere as youngsters. You have heard of David Akers, no? |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Why does everyone always turn to David Akers as if it reflects some pattern for the Redskins and field goal kickers? He played one game for the Redskins
You've heard of Scott Blanton, Brett Conway, Jose Cortez, Nick Novak, and Shaun Suisham, no? |

You've heard of Scott Blanton, Brett Conway, Jose Cortez, Nick Novak, and Shaun Suisham, no?
Why use him as an example? Simple... David Akers is a good kicker - maybe even a very good kicker - and has been one for about 10 years now. He was the "property" of the Redskins and they did not recognize what they had so they started down the path of Blanton, Conway ... Suisham, Gano. Had the coaches recognized what they had in hand, things would have been different in the Skins' kicking game. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Hindsight is 20/20. Falcons didn't recognize his talents, Panthers didn't recognize his talents
Hindsight is 20/20. Falcons didn't recognize his talents, Panthers didn't recognize his talents
Yes, we weren't the only ones to miss on Akers, but Gano has shown me enough to believe that he has similar talent. He gives us a clear field position advantage on kickoffs, and he has made some very big kicks to keep us in games. Hell, some of these Gano haters probably blame him for Fred Davis sleeping on the edge when the Texans blocked a short attempt that might've iced that game.

Calm down, just because some of us would like to see some more accuracy from the kicker position doesn't mean we're haters. I could have a nicer car, does that mean I hate my car? He's a decent kicker, he missed 2 in a close game with the Texans and I am pretty sure he had missed a kick in every game before last week. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Was today "acceptable"?
Made huge kicks. Missed a couple really hard ones. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Still can't believe he missed the one at the end of regulation, the turf might have been to blame. I do like how he came back and nailed the one in OT with authority though.

Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
We have to remember too...he's essentially a rookie...
He's gonna get better and more accurate as he progresses. He's the best we've had since chip imo... |

I swear the snap on that kick at the end of regulation was not good. I could have sworn that the ball was really low to the ground and coming sideways to Hunter Smith. And the Redskins did a terrible job at getting Gano a shorter field goal try before the half ended. I'm not saying Gano is a great kicker, but he did enough to get us the win. Should he do more? Yes. But so should the offense who fails to score time and time again, and settles for FGs. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
meh, if the ball gets set the kicker has to make it. I think too much is being made of the snaps this year. Gano just didn't get enough mustard on that one for whatever reason.
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Shanahan commented today that he wasn't too thrilled with the snaps yesterday
|
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Seeing the make-shift O Line yesterday, I would not be too critical of the snaps.

The snap was bad, diminishing the practiced fluidity of the holder/kicker combo. I still wish that Gano had made the kick but he was kicking under less than ideal conditions. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Why is everyone giving him a pass but bashed SS. Gano has an average of 73.1 and SS average around 84% but people wanted him gone.

I dunno about others, but for me there are two main points in his favor: 1) he's young, so he can improve 2) his kickoffs have been great in terms of direction and distance. I know one or two have gone out of bounds, but he also has pinned KR's to one side of the field alot, and that is huge. (and of course there is always the Yo Gano chant, but that doesn't really count) |

He's missed from 40+, he's got a strong leg & he's young. I think he's missed one under 40 plus a block this year. He's hit a lot of 40+ this year too, some of them pretty clutch like yesterday, also the 49 yarder v. Dallas to put us up 6. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
Gano is a good kicker. We would be foolish to dump him just to watch him become another teams gem. We need to keep this guy.

What does Sundberg's bad snaps have to do with the OL? He doesn't play OL. Only snaps the ball. Every game. Nothing else. |

Because Suisham missed a couple chip shot field goals that cost us games. The New Orleans one got him cut last season...but I think alot of people, myself included, really blame him for that Seattle playoff game in 2007. There is no way to know for sure if we could have won that game, I mean the final score was 35-14...but his miss was such a huge let down... pretty much from there on out, I didn't like him very much. Gano is starting to iritate me a bit as well, but all of his misses have been from a pretty long distance. He's a young guy with a strong leg, so for the time being, I want to continue to give him a shot. That 47 yarder yesterday was pretty dissapointing though. I stood up and was screaming Yes Yes Yes and thought he made it... anything under 50 shouldnt come up short. |
Re: Graham Gano has to Go !!
I like Gano, and I know he's missed some kicks, but alot of kcikers do unless you have one of the diamonds in the rough.
One of the BEST things about Gano is his kickoffs.. The guy can boot the hell out of a kickoff, and place it inside the nubmers on the left/right side of the field. It makes it difficult for returners to set up a wedge or get a good kickoff return. How many times have we seen Sellers, and Alexander smash someone on kickoff team because the wedge is in the middle of the field and can't get set up for a return? How many times does the opposing team start inside the 20? There is more then just FG's, and this really helps our Defense out that gives up alot of yards imo |
