We run very well off that zone stretch play to the right. Not so well right up the gut. Chicago's d-line is weaker in the middle.
Chicago's front seven against the run is the primary strength of that team. We were ok running the ball against them...but what really put a smile on my face was the 4th quarter when we needed to run the ball and the clock. We did without a problem (except for the fumbles). That was HUGE. Torrain and the Oline were pounding the Chicago run D. That performance cannot be overlooked
He still has to know the plays are and what is being communicated among the other D-linemen. If he can expound on just some Schwartz's more "popular" playcalls, that'll help out in breaking down the film they're studying.
I agree, and didn't mean to imply that we would not benefit at all. Only that in every other case, I think we "won" the mentor player matchup, even Reid/McNabb. But this time I think Schwarz's knowledge of AH, as his DC for a long time, makes him more aware of how to attack and scheme for AH's best play. Will this be the critical game changing knowledge, I doubt it.

Honestly I mainly was pointing out how many of these mentor/player matchups we have had. And I forgot to include Haslett/Rams, though it wasn't quite the same.

Re: It's F-Ing Lions Week!!
I don't really think the AH/schwartz thing will have much of an impact on this game. This looks like it'll be a defensive game; the skins defense outmatches the lions offense (they may give up yards but will limit points and create turnovers), and the skins offense has shown nothing to suggest they'll put up a lot of points on sunday. I'm also afraid of Suh having a field day against our interior OL, but like last week, if Torain breaks the first level he'll have some good runs - I think he racks up at least 80 yards this week. I would love to say the skins win in a blowout, but there's no evidence that supports that outcome, and overwhelming evidence that this will be another close one. 50/50 chance skins win this.
I don't see it as anything substantial either.

Haslett runs with looks you don't see anywhere else in the league. There could be plays where AH is the ONLY lineman with a hand on the ground. We stand up 7 defenders near the line, blitz some and drop some back.

Plus, doesn't matter how well you can predict Haynesworth, if he's motivated, it's a lot of man to try to stop. There's a reason he's double-teamed every play. Plus, now we know Albert can fly. (Cutler goalline stop)

We win this game easy. Total domination by the Skins. We get to sit back and relax watching this one.

Doubt it will be easy, but I think we win by 10-14 pts in the end. I think it will be a mistake for them to put Stafford in against AH and Orakpo. Matt might get hurt again ala Sam Bradford's senior year at Oklahoma.

I'm only scared because we always lose to the bad teams and beat the good ones.
But i still think were gonna pull this one out because we need it.

Apparently we are not a great draw in Motown, as we are the Lions' first non-sellout this year.

Not too many folks here in Detroit think the game is worth shelling out that kind of money for a potential ass kicking of the Lions. I always see the Skins in Detroit, but I opted out this season.

Man, if I ever move out of state, I'd always want to see the Skins whenever they came through whatever city I'm in, or the closest city to that. I mean right now I normally only go to 1-2 games a year even though I live close, but that's because I don't have a lot of money to spend and other expenses always come first.

I can see your hesitation in wanting to go to the Detroit game though. They beat us last year when they were slouches and this year even though they are 1-5 they have been close in every loss. I can see the Skins losing this one, especially if Matt Stafford has a good day against our defense. I can just as easily see this being the game where our offense gets on track though, and if defense can perform fine we could win this one easily.

GusFrerotte 10-29-2010 12:10 AM

Re: It's F-Ing Lions Week!!

It is more of an expense thing than anything. Usually a group of us goes, but money is tight, as I am going to need new struts, etc on my car, plus Xmas is just around the corner. Not too mention I went last year and got ragged on coming out of Ford Field when we lost. It was like Clint Eastwood in The Gauntlet walking through Greektown going back to the car.

Um... no thanks. I'm just not a homer Sonny Jurgenson type and pick Washington every single week, even though I'm a die hard fan for the last 35 years. This is going to be a tough one against a team that should've won 2 more games and is coming off a bye. Detroit has also show the ability to SCORE. I think we get a break with a rusty young QB that hasn't played this year. We'll see...
This is not about whether we won or lost. Not one of my sentences had "winning the game" as the subject of the sentence. The subject was about the Packers' stats going into that week.

They came into the game with statistical rankings that weren't so hot, but they came and stuffed our running game. This shows that stats can mask certain strengths of the opposing team.

Incidentally, Miami was able to get a few decent runs against them the next week, which further highlights our interior's crappiness.

This also isn't about track records. This is about freaking who is going to win the damn battles on the LOS. If Suh wins more of those battles than he loses, McNabb and friends are going to be in a world of hurt.

Detroit didn't have Suh before. They do now. Don't act like he's not there. Those "track records" are no longer going to be reliable once they add good personnel.

Who won the LOS battle between their D-line and our O-line? Green Bay's DL won against us easily. That in turn led to a shitty rushing average.
Detroit beat us up in both trenches last season. We better come prepared.

What is the deal with everyone crying about Aikman? He's pretty damn good, and so is Daryl Johnston. He doesn't come off as anti Redskin to me. He made some stupid comments about Hall going to the ground on all fours but who gives a damn. Every analyst says stupid crap during a game.

Re: It's F-Ing Lions Week!!

Hey guys, Lions fan here from the Lions fan site.

I know many of you think this is a walkover game of sorts, and some don't, but this is not the same team.

Case in point-

1) Shoulda won the Bears game. It was a catch, pure and simple.
2) Name a blowout this year or walkover? This team has been playing much better football and everyone of our games came down to a possession or two. The last few years, the game only mattered in the first or second possession as we were down by 14 with 11 minutes left in the first usually.
3) The talent - Suh is a beast and VandenBosch has brought good leadership. As a matter of fact, quick, how many starters from last year's game on our Defense our starting tomorrow? The answer - 4. Avril, Delmas, Levy, Peterson.
4) This team is young and is going to lose its share of close games but how can you guys only score 17 against the Bears with 6 turnovers?
5) We're 1-5. We used our starter for half a game, our backup for 5 games and our 3rd stringer for half a game.
6) I'm not comparing your loss to St. Louis and our win. Any given Sunday rule in effect. You guys had a bad game, we had an awesome game.

Lastly, was out with my wife last night for dinner and there were 3 tables of Redskins fans at a restaurant about 30 minutes outside of Detroit. Had a enjoyable banter with them back and forth. Nice peeps, from the Virginia area in town for the game. Good luck today and good luck with the rest of the season. At least, one thing we will agree with today - the Cowboys are REALLY, REALLY going to suck this year!
