Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Matty:
Probably not. Same situation applies here in DC. Donovan McNabb can ask for/demand a trade. He too can threaten to retire. But in the end, he knows that if he is on the roster at the beginning of next season he gets $10M for the season. McNabb will not retire - - even if he threatens to do so. |

Well McNabb and Palmer would not be successful in a team like ours. However, they could have a lot of success in a team that has everything in place, except for the QB position (i.e. Arizona, Minny, maybe Miami). There is a big difference between a QB like that being successful in the right situation, and having any type of success in a rebuilding team like ours. QBs like Palmer and McNabb won't succeed in places where there is no offensive line, no true #1 WR, a questionable running game, and a newly implemented defense. |

Didn't say that, Sam Passed much more and had more 5 wide sets.. Tim used his legs obviously and Fla ran the option..As for the spread offense, get used to it because most college teams run it now... Both Tim and Sam have bright futures in the NFL imo. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I do not care about carson Palmer's stats. I saw Carson play two games this season and looked weak. I don't want another older Qb. Especially one that says publicly, 'I have enough money to retire right now.' That is not the message I want to hear from my Qb. The Redskins really need to stay away from older expensive players, including some that are on our roster. Please, we need to get younger.
Our FO and fans need to stay grounded with facts, we were 4-12 in 2009 and 6-10 in 2010. We are not one or two players away from being a Superbowl team. Do you really think Carson Palmer would leave the losing in Cincy to come here? Carson will leave Cincy to go to Minnesota, Seattle or Dallas. Teams that really are a few players away from being a playoff team or at least (in the case of Dallas) have some great weapons on offense and defense. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, quarterback Carson Palmer has informed the Cincinnati Bengals that he would like to be traded before the 2011 season. And while some of this stuff can be considered hearsay with all expectations swept under the rug over the offseason, this rumor appears to be pretty serious. Palmer, according to unnamed sources, has made it clear that he will retire from the game. With the Washington Redskins in desperate need of a quarterback, rumors have resurfaced that head coach Mike Shanahan may take the 31 year old signal caller into consideration.
With the Washington Redskins in desperate need of a quarterback, rumors have resurfaced that head coach Mike Shanahan may take the 31 year old signal caller into consideration. The plus-side to a possible Palmer sighting in Ashburn is the fact that he knows the West Coast offense and he has the type of skill set needed to succeed in Kyle Shanahan’s offense. The downside to a possible Palmer sighting in Ashburn is the fact that he has never been able to limit his turnovers and that his consistency was lost following his injury in 2005. After having great back-to-back seasons in 2005 and 2006, which he earned quarterback ratings of 101 and 94 respectively, Palmer went on to throw 57 interceptions in his next 52 games. Compared to the Redskins current quarterback debacle, Rex Grossman, Palmer doesn’t appear to be that much of an improvement. Shanahan may find a little more confidence in a Palmer-brand band aid than a Grossman one, but it’s undoubtedly nothing more than a temporary fix. In fact, I wouldn't take the Redskins out of consideration for selecting a quarterback in April's draft, although it likely wouldn't be in the first round. The Redskins will not be the only team inquiring about Palmer as the offseason quickly approaches. The Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks may also take a long hard look at Palmer. Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt is familiar with Palmer after his days with the division-rival Steelers, the Vikings appear to be just a quarterback away from contention and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has obvious ties from his days at USC where he recruited and coached Palmer. The Miami Dolphins will also consider Palmer and the Carolina Panthers may look for a veteran to try and show sophomore Jimmy Clausen the ropes. I also wouldn’t count out the San Francisco 49ers with the idea of a temporary fix and the Tennessee Titans that could host a quarterback competition for the elderly. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Without going through the first 6 pages of this thread, so forgive me if someone already brought this up.
But for those that would endorse trading for Palmer if possible just want to remind you that until a new CBA is reached, active players cannot be traded. Draft picks can be traded, but not established players. Now, that being said, if and when a new CBA is reached, how would trading for Palmer change anything at Redskins Park? It would be yet another squandering of picks for yet another player on the wrong side of 30. I thought these were the type of trades that Cerrato and Snyder would come up with that infuriated the fan base and failed on the field? This was said last off-season too when McNabb was acquired. How is this any different? There needs to be a youth movement in Landover. Look at the draft for a QB, let McNabb hang around and get the young gun ready, then send McNabb off to his little sunset. |

Not to mention the trade demands that were made by Corey Dillon before that. He was there an additional 4 years AFTER he demanded a trade. I think once Cincy says they won't trade someone, their track record certainly confirms it. |

For better or worse, it would appear that the name "Redskins" will be inexplicably linked to any potential QB availability as long as it's perceived an issue remains at the position. Touchy in deciphering the real from the imagined. |

I think these rumors/speculations stem from more than a perception that an issue remains with the Redskins and their QB for next year and the year after that. It is much more than a perception; it's a fact. The Redskins have Donovan McNabb "under their control" in the off-season. that is the way the Skins' FO wants to spin it - - but there is a nasty reality they choose to ignore. If they have McNabb on the roster at the beginning of the next NFL season, they owe him $10M for next year. $10M is what you may choose to pay your #1 QB; $10M is not what you pay the guy who you know from the outset will be your #2 or #3 guy (don't have any idea how the "evaluation of John Beck" went in the last two weeks of 2010). So, there is a "problem" at the Skins' QB position. Do The Shanahans swallow hard and put McNabb back in as the #1 guy next year? I doubt there is enough Tobasco sauce in the country to make the amount of crow they would have to eat taste good. I really don't see The Shanahans and McNabb kissing and making up. So there is the "problem" and it is not hard to perceive that it is there. No one knows how it will be resolved - - but until it is resolved one way or another it will be easy for any NFL observer to see the problem exists. Please note, I have made no statements here as to whether or not McNabb gives the Skins a better shot at next year's playoffs than does Rex Grossman, John Beck and/or any hypothetical draft pick at QB who might fall the Skins' way. The"problem" everyone perceives is that the Skins have a big-name QB that they probably have to move. That leave a vacancy at the position... |
Yes, I think they should and will put McNabb back in as starter from Week 1. He played well for the most part, except for his interception total, but we had a big play offense we have not seen since Spurrier's preseason and the last couple minutes of the Monday Night Miracle. McNabb, like Campbell the year(s) before, took a beating from lack of protection. He ran out of trouble VERY well, better than he has for years in my opinion. But, any QB can only do so much on his own. Rabach needs replaced ASAP. We may need to solidify the RT position. Dockery isn't fit for the scheme and will need to be demoted or replaced. The only lineman we can really feel confident in is Trent Williams. Our #10 pick needs to be used on the BEST lineman we can get, any position, but preferably a Center/Guard who can either replace Rabach or allow one of our guards who are natural centers to kick him to the curb. Put a rookie QB behind Rabach and he'll have more INTs than TDs too. Build up this line with the #10 pick and hopefully the second rounder too. Go after a FA...even Jared Gaither for a season or two. Hopefully Mike Williams can come back strong. McNabb did have some setbacks in his transition from a polar-opposite offense under Reid, but he did show signs of being a QB we can win with...but now alone. Don't forget, he wasn't the only Redskin on offense who was transitioning to a new system...they ALL were. Ask Derrick Dockery how easy is was. Even Cooley had a rough year with drops...perhaps his concentration was on the new routes or assignments? Year 2 needs to be a continuation of Year 1. Don't give up after 16 games, that would be foolish and set us back to Day 1-Post Zorn again. McNabb needs to keep progressing but needs protection too. He couldn't even be assured of the ability to drop back every play...at least once weekly, Rabach would tackle him. |

Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
Sure DM could be back. The question is, is he worth the $$ over someone like Grossman, or possibly another veteran QB that would only be in place until a rookie is ready to play?
The Skins were smart to keep their options open with DM until week 1 of next season, but I still think the chances of him coming back are very slim. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I'm taken aback that there are even posts this morning about 5 coming back. It's of course possible, I am just surprised that anyone thinks it's realistic. After reading Buster's posts I thought about some athletes that said they were done w/a team, but eventually came back.
I can't think of any that had that much of a public airing of grievances w/an asst. coach like 5 had w/Kyle S. If all this were just about the benching then I would think McNabb could be back, but when his agent went public about Kyle S. ignoring his client's suggestions, etc., that really seemed to force the team to look for trading partners. The one small chance of him being back is that Mike S. takes it upon himself to mend fences between he, Kyle & McNabb. If he decides he wants 5 as qb it will happen, but from what has gone down thus far I see no indication of that, and MS has said that he won't stick w/a player that's not right for the team just because of where they were drafted, or what was traded for them. |
Re: Carson Palmer demands trade, threatens to retire...
I dont think they should play McNabb, because as others pointed out, he is only a stop gap until the QB for the future is ready. McNabb has had his best days and he wont get better with us, he will only regress.

I knew when we got him that Donovan was far from the QB he was with the eagles and when he was in his prime, but i honestly didn't envision DM playing so poorly here. It can be blamed on alot of factors, but the one that most people seem to be missing is that McNabb has had his best day. People are still in denial thinking he can be good here, but most of the signs point to DM being like every other aging star QB. That is, his play suffers slight, but noticible decline, and regresses to the point that he is benched for a youngster...then retires if he cannot swallow his pride and continue in the NFL as a backup. |

Still I think he's healthy enough & physically able that he could play at a pretty high level. I think a career's worth of bad habits has caught up to him, namely his poor footwork. He's always been an inaccurate passer, but w/age it's harder to compensate for poor form. I also think this year was more than he bargained for in terms of preparation. He probably thought he could work at the same pace he did in Philly, but he had to learn a new system here. He may have underestimated his learning curve as much as the Skins overpaid for him. |
