Re: Name change
Snyder would lose tons of money on a name change, and the fan base would shrink. Some people who are barely hanging on to being fans as it is would feel a weaker allegiance to a new name. I'm not one of those people, but I know I wouldn't feel 100% the same. It would never happen.

A logo change would most definitely come with a name change, the colors might not though. If it were to change it would have nothing to do with native Americans. Its not just offensive because its a slur, its also offensive because it is characterizing the native americans in a slanderous way (not how I see it, but some people do see it that way, and therefore it has to be taken into consideration). Changing just the name to something like Washington Warriors and keeping the logo, would not please those already offended. |

A name change would make more money because there would be a whole new set of merchandise to sell, and people would buy it. |
Re: Name change
Washington Moneymakers. IŽd like that. And so honest. :)

Re: Name change
Could we just drop Redskins and keep Washington or does the NFL require a providence and unique team name?

And you would lose millions of dollars for existing merchandise already in stock. |

Re: Name change
Honestly, they talk about taking the Native Americans completely out of the name scheme in sports because it's used in a slanderous way? Huh? If this is the case, then the same could be said about the Fighting Irish, The Orangemen, The Vikings, The Cowboys, etc....
I think this PC movement has gotten way out of hand. Maybe I can buy the slur of the term "redskin", but to be offended by calling a team "The Warriors" or "The Braves" is just plainly out stupid. I mean, what I find hilarious is that television and movies are being more liberal about allowing profanity and telling people that we shouldn't be offended by the language in those regards, but that we should be offended by what some professional sports team uses as their mascot name and has been doing so for over a half century. It's OK to hear someone call somebody a "MF" or either one of the "B" words, but if a sports team is using a mascot name such as Redskins or Braves and not using it in a derogatory manner, then it is offensive. Somewhere along the way are priorities have gotten screwed up. |
Re: Name change
they should never change it! anyway, are you going to make every sports team with a indian related name and logo change theirs too?.:argue:

Merchandise revenue would go up, but the amount lost would upset that revenue. Money would be lost from the millions of dollars of merchandise already in stock, it would be lost from the tons of logistical matters that would go through with a name change (business that have deals with the redskins would all need to be dealt with), all the redskins stores, the stadium, and anything else that says redskins would have to be changed. On top of all that the fan base would shrink. So many fans are looking for a reason to jump ship after over a decade of losing with not much hope for the immediate future, and this might be what cuts the ties for them. |
