Here's another one...saw a "Katrina" oval magnet on a Toyota this morning. Forgot about those. Been years since I saw one of those.

I always thought it was strange to have those...what about the other storms? :D

I should get an Agnes one. Remember Agnes, people! Heck, I'll get a TMI '79 one too. Support disasters, people!

There are ultramarathons that go up to and sometimes even beyond 100 miles.

Those stickers must feel reaaaaal special when their kid fails a grade and graduates in a different year, or just drops out in 10th grade. I see an assload of Potomac View honor roll stickers all over woodbridge and nova as well, it honestly makes me wonder whether they just had a stockpile lying around and just decided to give them to anyone with a kid at Potomac View or something.

Re: F...26.2 Stickers

Just found out today that my ACL, as the doctor described, exploded. Since I've already registered for the Disney Marathon in January I'm going to try to continue training and then have the patella tendon graft surgery afterward. I'm particularly bummed that I won't be able to do the Tough Mudder in October (since clearly I'm not).

What sucks the most is the way I injured it. Last play of a softball double-header I had to make a throw from Left-Center to Home. Just as I released the ball, I felt/heard to crunch/pops and knew my knee was fubar'd. I really didn't want to play because I had just ran 20 miles, but the team was short a player.

That sounds like it hurt like nobody's business. Do you have insurance that will cover it since it wasn't on the job or anything like that? I'm sure you'll have plenty of hospital bills for the surgery and everything else they'll charge you for. GL with the recovery man. It sounds like you were in good shape beforehand, so you won't face as uphill a challenge as others would.

Yeah, it hurt. And every time I have to make any sudden lateral movements it "catches" for about 5 minutes. My insurance is okay. So far after just the MRI I'm down $380, plus 2 $40 co-pays.

Well that's not bad. When are you getting the surgery? And why are you going to keep training before it? Shouldn't you get the surgery first, then focus on rehab? Do they have to wait for any swelling to go down?

Re: F...26.2 Stickers

Waiting until after the marathon for surgery because the doctor said there's no way I'll be able to run it after the procedure for at least 9 months. He seemed okay with the idea of me putting it off until after the marathon as long as I don't do other activities that force me to make sudden changes of direction.

Ah ok. So even though it hurt when it exploded, are you still able to move around on it without doing sudden changes of direction? Are you on crutches or anything like that?

Re: F...26.2 Stickers

Actually, there is no pain or discomfort, unless I just happen to step suddenly at a bad angle. I still have some fluid there. But the injury happened in late June so the initial pain and swelling is gone. I've had it hurt for about 10 minutes at a time several times since by just mowing the grass, walking in the ocean, etc. It's just taken this long for the doctor to give me an appointment.

You're gonna run a marathon with a blown out ACL? You sir are a tough mudder. Don't sell yourself short.

I'll just echo what Matty said 724. I think it would be crazy to run a marathon with a torn ACL, but then again I've never torn my ACL and don't know what it's like, so if you think you can do it, please by all means do. Be proud man, that's a big accomplishment.

You don't need an ACL to run. As long as the knee is otherwise strong and the pain isn't bothersome, he'll be fine.

Re: F...26.2 Stickers

Interesting.

BUILT TO LAST ELWAY'S DURABILITY AT PERILOUS POSITION BUILT ON INTELLIGENCE, STRENGTH, COURAGE

Copyright Denver Publishing Company, Rocky Mountain News Jul 13, 1997

"Elway does not have an ACL in his left knee. He is not a medical miracle, but he has lived on the edge longer than anyone should. He completely tore the ligament while making a cut during a high school football game, although no one hit him on the play. Today, the knee would be reconstructed. But 20 years ago, it was left alone.

Where the ligament had been, calcium began to build up like a stalactite. He wears a brace to stabilize the knee. It is not the recommended procedure, but it has worked for Elway.

"What he's developed are arthritic changes that have stabilized the joint," Antonopulos said. "There's not much looseness. From the day we examined him the first time he got here to the way he is today, it's like night and day."

At some point after his career, Elway likely will need knee replacement surgery. But his knees are strong, "considering the fact that he's missing a few things in one of them," Tuten said. In the off-season, Elway was able to squat 300 pounds eight times and leg press 400 pounds. The long-ago knee injury has made him conscious of strengthing the surrounding muscles. His legs are as strong as any of the Broncos' skill position players. His leg strength has allowed him to escape all sorts of predicaments that have shortened other careers.

"It's not to say his knee doesn't get sore or his knee doesn't swell during training camp," Antonopulos said. "He needs to wear the brace to ensure stability as well. Some people have a lot more problems. One of the things is that he's developed the musculature around the joint to stabilize it even more."

You need to print it out and walk into the doc's office/hospital for the surgery wearing it just to see the doc's reaction.

Well, I decided to do the Tough Mudder Virginia this past Saturday anyway, torn ACL and all. I wore a knee brace on both knees since the knee is wrecked from prior meniscus/partial ACL tear. I didn't have any real problems other than general soreness. It was pretty friggin' fun! I'd recommend it for any of you adventure junkies.
